Summer concerts/movies in the park in Murrieta are super fun. I would get there early with your chairs to get up close. Bring towels, a cooler and a meal to spend the afternoon before it begins. Having smashball rackets or pickleball equipment.

Awesome Otters swim lessons are available for your little ones if you want to teach them how to swim initially. From there you can visit the city pool free of charge all summer long. Something you can do all day with friends.

We have a lot of ideas, some are outside and others are for really hot days. Of course there are the movies and we have a few different theaters in town. You can find discount ones that are smaller or the Edwards at the mall. Speaking of that we love to window shop and just get an ice cream some days.

Is Temecula Good for Kids?

Yes! It is a very family friendly town with a TON of things to do with toddlers, elementary, middle school kids and High School children as well. A safe town with great schools and activities for kids too. Many are free of charge or inexpensive. Especially during the holidays the city of Temecula puts on lots of events.

Geocaching is an activity we do together in this city as well as anywhere we visit. You can download the app so even if you travel you can spend some time finding trinkets that others hide.

Temecula Duck Pond is right off of the freeway and is a nice walking area too. You can find moms walking with strollers around the pond to get exercise and kids love seeing the swimmers.

Especially if you have more than one child it can get expensive. The mall has a lot of free activities, parks are beautiful and farmers markets are fun to walk around too.

Are kids allowed in wineries in Temecula?

There are some who do and actually cater to them with small playgrounds near the tables where you can wine taste, others frown upon it. Of course in the dining areas where you can eat dinner they are welcome because it is a restaurant. I could suggest not taking them as it is primarily an adult only atmosphere and others won’t appreciate the noise.

Hidden Valley Nature Center in Riverside is a fun place to see dinosaur bones.

Walk around Riley’s Farm and the family friendly town of Julian. Make sure to grab a slice of fresh apple pie, can be shared, visit their underground candy store and you can even ride in a horse drawn carriage.

Ride the Temecula Trolley to downtown to walk around and have lunch together. They have a fun candy store there too with retro choices you and your parents will remember.

If you are looking for some camps I would recommend one or more of the local Vacation Bible School

There are a few different McDonald’s / Burger King play lands around with slides and ball pits that are free of charge to visit as long as you would like.

What are some cheap things to do in Temecula?

Edwards Temecula theater at the mall has a $1 Summer Movies Series we did on a weekly basis when I had little ones. Most are animated and many times they even offer cheap snacks during that time. Grab friends and cousins, go early because it fills up fast and beat the heat for a few hours there.

Digiplex Temecula Tower Cinema is a discount theater that is pretty nice. You will find movies that have been out for a little while but aren’t super old. You can even grab a smoothie at Maui Wowi and bring that in!

Reading Cinemas Murrieta also has a Summer $1 Movies. You can look on their website to find what is playing each week. Once again I would definitely get there early to get a decent seat.

Temeku Discount Theatre in Temecula has other choices at discounted prices which helps when you have a few kids to pay to get in (plus yourself). Look at them all at the beginning of summer and mark on your printable calendar what you are going to see where to keep track of your activities.

Blueberry picking in Temecula is super duper fun. You pay for a basket and then go into the bushes and fill it as you walk thru the aisles. Get everyone one because you likely won’t have any left once you get home they are so fresh and juicy.

U Pick Strawberries Farm in Temecula is called Kenny’s and has something similar but with huge berries you will want to eat right away. They have a picnic area there with benches too so you can bring a lunch and have your fruit with it then and there. It would be fun to host special events like birthdays there too.

perris swimming pool

Epic Rollertainment has deals throughout the summer months for roller skating in Murrieta. You can either bring your own skates or rent them there for an additional charge. There is food there like french fries and pizza to get and nice cozy areas for parents to sit. I used to bring my computer and worked while they skated.

Zebras R Us Safari Barn in Winchester is a unique animal experience where they rehab animals and started with zebras that they may still have there to interact with.

Pole Position Go Kart Racing in Murrieta & Riverside allows young ones to get a “drivers license” and race on an indoor track. It is a fun place to have a party too in June or July.

Get Air Trampoline Park in Temecula offers a punch card so you can get a discount on visits. There are seats and a birthday party area for parents to wait as well as a foam pit kids love.

Aerosports Trampoline Park in Murrieta is similar but a bit larger with an arcade and snack bar that is quite large to get a bite to eat. I will say this location has a lot more nice areas for parents to wait and many would bring computers to work or chat with friends on the padded benches.

Rock Fitness Indoor rock climbing in Wildomar is another activity but more for older kids 10+ in age. Sometimes when school is out they will have designated days and times for kids so you can meet other parents and kids can meet friends their age.

Pennypickle’s Workshop aka Temecula Children’s Museum is in downtown. You can spend several hours there looking, touching and learning about how things work. Every hour or so they will have some sort of scientific demonstration that is free to watch.

There is a FREE carousel inside Bass Pro Shop. I mean there is so much outdoor stuff there for adults to look at but kids won’t grumble going because of the carousel and the HUGE fish tank in the middle of the store to look at.

Local Water Parks

Margarita Splash Pad & Park in Temecula is completely enclosed with a gate so it is great for little kids and special needs children too. Equipment is made for those with disabilities so swings are more secure and slides are shorter.

Splash Pad at Lake Skinner in Temecula is out toward wine country so you could make a visit to the large grass areas there on the way.

DropZone Waterpark in Perris you can see below with lots of slides, a lazy river, splash pad and surfing area.

Splash Buccaneer Bay Waterpark in Buena Park is closer to Knotts so you could plan for a whole weekend of visiting both of these. There are hotel deals on Groupon you can grab to cut down the costs too.

Legoland Waterpark once again is a two for one, inside the park. I would recommend you staying the weekend in San Diego and doing one each day because there is a lot to do and both in one day would be alot.

Buccaneer Cove inside Castle Park in Riverside is a smaller waterpark similar to Mulliganas but you get access to both the rides and this with your ticket price. Has loungers there but you will want to bring lots of towels and dry clothes. There is a mini golf course there and an arcade so 4 for 1 at this place.

Amusement Parks Near Inland Empire

Knott’s Berry Farm is really large and has rides in Camp Snoopy for little ones as well as really scary ones. During the holidays they offer special events during Halloween and Christmas especially.

Legoland park is more for under 10 years really but has a lot to see if your older kids love building.

Sea World of course is all about ocean animals and watching shows with them performing. I highly recommend spending some money on the Sea World behind the scenes access tour as you see a lot more and learn about conservation.

Adventure City in Anaheim is more for young ones too, smaller in scale but has enough for a whole day. They have really cute magic shows kids love and isn’t too expensive.

  2. From May – October, the Temecula Valley Polo Club has polo games where families can tailgate and watch the match for free! You back your car right up to the field, pull out a blanket, a picnic dinner, a couple activities to keep the kids busy during slow periods (like hula hoops or kid’s croquet), and watch the match. There is a tent with dining tables and vendors (but it’s $20/person). There are also several amazing food vendors.

    1. I just checked their website and unfortunately, the polo club now charges $15 pp for admission to tailgate. Ugh.
