Copycat Recipe for Hardees Biscuits
Hardee’s is a popular fast food restaurant chain known for its delicious burgers, fried chicken, and breakfast items. Founded in 1960 by Wilber Hardee, the chain initially started as a single drive in restaurant in Greenville, North Carolina. Recently it expanded and their breakfast menu is amazing.
Breakfast is a significant part of this chain’s menu offering options like biscuits with various fillings, breakfast burritos, and loaded omelet biscuits. We have shown you how to make biscuits from scratch before but these are a little tweak to taste more like their style.

Why are Hardee’s biscuits so delicious?
Just like our Bisquick butter swim biscuits they are super savory and buttery. With lots of layers they are sometimes made large, like their monster size, with a chicken patty to be served inside or served as is they have a lot of flavor to them.
What is the secret to the best biscuit?
To get those layers the batter should be just barely mixed. The more you fold and turn them the stiffer they will get. If you want the to be as fluffy as possible (the goal right?) the dough should be incorporated, then folded a few times to make flaky and cut without twisting the cutter.
Hardees menu items
Sausage, Egg & Cheese Biscuit is a freshly baked piece filled with a savory sausage patty, a fluffy folded egg, and melted American cheese. The have something similar to our Bacon, Egg & Cheese monkey bread variety in sandwich form.
Country Ham is a classic biscuit filled with cooked and smoked pork. Their honey butter chicken biscuit variety is filled with a hand breaded, seasoned meat, creating a satisfying breakfast choice.
Loaded omelet is a hearty bite filled with folded eggs, sausage, bacon, diced ham, and shredded cheddar cheese. What they call their Monster Biscuit is a monstrous size sandwich featuring a folded egg, two sausage patties, four slices of bacon, and American cheese.
Hardee’s Biscuits and Gravy
Biscuit ‘N’ Gravy in general is a Southern classic. This one offers their flaky biscuit smothered in creamy sausage gravy, creating a comforting and hearty breakfast dish. Sunrise Croissant with Ham uses a croissant filled with thinly sliced ham, folded eggs, and Swiss cheese.
Their sweeter cinnamon ‘n’ raisin biscuit is a sweet treat you could make with this same dough but adding 1 tbsp of sugar and cinnamon mixture. Then incorporate a small handful of raisins to bake inside for added yum.
Occasionally they may offer additional regional or limited time menu items depending on the location and season. These delicious choices are typically available during breakfast hours. They are a popular choice among customers seeking a satisfying and flavorful start to their day.

Can you bake homemade biscuits in an air fryer?
You can bake as directed below or cook as homemade air fryer biscuits. This countertop method is great if you want just a small batch or a few at a time. To make the initial dough you are going to need;
If you wanted to make it super big like the one featured there you would just need to use a larger pastry circle cutter. The bigger they are the more bake time would be necessary, but just a bit more to get to golden brown.
How to Make Hardee’s Monster Biscuit
- Start by preheating the oven to 400 degrees F. Prepare a 9×13 baking dish or baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray. In a large mixing bowl, beat the egg.
- Add the sour cream and whisk until well combined. Add the cold grated butter to the sour cream mixture and stir until combined.
- To the mixing bowl, add the remaining dry ingredients and stir until well mixed. Turn the shaggy flour mixture dough out onto a lightly floured surface.
- Use a rubber spatula to get all of it out of the bowl.
- Using well floured hands, knead the dough a few times and shape the dough into a rectangle. Roll the dough until about 1 inch thick.
- Using a biscuit cutter, press straight down into the dough without twisting (to avoid sealing the dough.) Place the biscuits into the prepared baking dish.
- Reshape the dough and continue cutting biscuits until all of the dough is used.
- Bake for 15 minutes up to 18 or until the tops begin to brown and middle is cooked thru.
Remove them from the oven, off baking sheet and set on a cooling rack so they don’t continue baking and dry out. Prior to serving, brush the warm biscuits with melted butter to add moisture and more flavor. Add a piece of meat to the center, a medium hard egg, cheese, whatever you’d like.
Are biscuits better made with butter or Crisco?
It depends on whom you ask, I think the real thing is always best. Kerrigold is my favorite brand of all times with tons of flavor, it’s creamy and salted for this recipe. Now if you don’t have butter on hand you can use our Crisco biscuits recipe instead. Comes in handy if you are low on groceries or want to make them dairy free.
There is just a slight tweak when it comes to ordinary recipes to this flaky popular fast food type. For ours we use sour cream but Greek yogurt could be a good alternative if you’d rather use that. All purpose flour, egg, salt, sugar, butter and leavening agents make our copycat Hardees biscuits over the top delicious.
