Air Fryer Roasted Garlic

Minced garlic is probably one of my favorite flavors to add to all of my recipes. There are times when you want it to be spreadable though and this is a great way to do just so. I will say when this cooks the smells are out of this world amazing too.

I use it for all the things so I will make a large batch and save it for later. I’ll show you and explain how to do that best below too.

If you love extra crispy food and quick recipes, here are some resources to start with:

A close-up photo of a hand pulling out the basket of an open air fryer on a light-colored surface. The interior of the air fryer basket is empty and features a mesh design, perfect for cooking your favorite dishes like bang bang shrimp. The edge of the air fryer has a latch mechanism for securing the basket.

You could fit many of these in the same drawer if you wanted to batch cook. You just don’t want them to overlap but next to one another with a bit of room between so the hot air can hit all sides of the foil will be fine. All you need to do to prep them is slice the top open so the heat can get in and the oil seeps in.

You can use any brand of machine you have at home, a Foodi will fit about 4 snugly in the round basket that comes with it. To make in this multi function machine you would need to use the lid that is attached with the air crisp button.

Is roasted garlic good for you?

Absolutely! The 3 top benefits are that it is said to prevent dementia, lower blood pressure, and prevents against heart disease too. All of this and it tastes amazing too. You can’t say that for all good for you foods can you? Once you start loving the flavor you can add it to all sorts of things like;

Can I put aluminum foil in an air fryer?

I normally say to never do this EXCEPT for roasting garlic bulb. You do want to create high heat and maintain it so that each clove gets super tender. The best way to do this and not burn the outside before it is tender in the center is to wrap each one in foil.

Does roasting garlic make it less healthy?

Raw garlic is the healthiest with the biggest health benefit eaten this way but roasted can make it more palatable and just as healthy keeping 1 thing in mind. When you roast a head, or cloves makes sure that they don’t get hotter than 140 degrees F inside or you will begin to lose nutritional value.

How do you pan fry garlic without oil?

Olive oil is your best bet when it comes to roasting garlic but you could use a bit of broth to prevent it from sticking. This is best done with the cloves removed from the head. You would want this over medium heat stirring along the way to lightly brown and not get too dark. Remove once tender inside.

What you need to cook garlic in air fryer

All you need are 3 things. I like olive oil but you could choose avocado instead if you preferred. Salt and pepper were added to intensify the flavors, any seasonings you love could be added on top before “baking”.

  1. Whole garlic cloves
  2. Knife to slice the tops off to expose the bulbs
  3. Olive oil to drizzle on the tops
  4. Salt and pepper were the seasonings used
  5. A piece of aluminum foil wraps around each one to hold in the heat

How long do you roast garlic in air fryer?

Timing will vary depending on how large your head is of course but typically you’ll need about 30 to 40 minutes. This includes time to prep and cook these + you’ll want about 20 minutes to allow them to cool enough to the touch. I recommend preheating your machine when you air fry anything.

What can I make with excess garlic?

Once you have done this process and it is stored to use later you can dice and add them to a bunch of easy and delicious recipes. A few great ones are our air fryer salsa or Instant Pot garlic mashed potatoes ideas.

Mix it in with our air fryer shrimp boil ingredients to add flavor and health benefits to it.

  • Cut tops off each head of garlic in order to expose the clove pieces inside.
  • Then cut a piece of foil just large enough to wrap around each. Lay flat and place 1 bulk in the middle of each piece of aluminum.
  • Drizzle olive oil on top of each one. Then sprinkle on some salt and pepper.
  • Fold the sides up so each piece is sealed shut. Preheat air fryer at 380 degrees F for 5 minutes.
  • Place sealed bulbs inside air fryer basket, close and cook for 23 minutes. Then unwrap the tops and cook at 400 for last 2 minutes to lightly brown the very tops.

Remove and allow to cool, then use. Store leftover roasted garlic cloves in a jar with olive oil so they are submerged, or in ice cube trays.

How do you store roasted garlic?

If you’re like me and you love roasted garlic you’re going to want to batch cook when it comes to this. I use it a whole lot to make garlic bread from scratch. If you’re like me you mind as well make enough to use for the next few weeks while you’re at it.

How do you store roasted garlic safely?

When you’ve used all you want for that day, peel the bulb to expose all of the cloves when cooled. Keep those whole and put into a small mason jar filled with good olive oil. Make sure the pieces are submerged into it and if sealed very tightly they will last up to 2 weeks in the fridge this way. Just remove one or two at a time, dice or mash and use in your delicious recipe of choice.

How to Roast Garlic Without Oil

If you do not want to use oil this is still possible to roast garlic in air fryer or in the oven. It won’t have as much flavor or be quite as tender if you don’t but is still an option. What I find best is to just tweak the directions below a bit in the sense that you would only open the top for half the time since you’re more at risk of the tops getting too brown. You can keep a close eye on that though.
