Pressure cooker churro bites are delicious for dessert or breakfast on the go! Cinnamon and sugar coated donut churros treats that are baked in an egg mold, not fried, right in your Instant Pot, Ninja Foodi or Crockpot Express.
These pressure cooker churro bites were a hit!! I made them at breakfast time and were a bit like a churros donut that the kids loved and even my husband raved about. Now one of our favorite breakfast Instant Pot recipes here on The Typical Mom blog. (affiliate links present)
What are Churro Bites?
Who didn’t love our best churros recipe??!! I mean seriously. You’ve never had one?? Well traditionally churros are long donuts essentially that are fried and rolled in cinnamon and sugar. Think of a more pop in your mouth way of eating those, that is what you get with these bites. Same flavor, smaller, easier to eat!
We decided to call these pressure cooker churro bites. Yes they are baked / steamed instead of fried but we like that even better. Essentially creating cinnamon and sugar Instant Pot donuts y’all. Have you tried these egg molds yet?? We’ve made a few different recipes in them that are NOT eggs at all…they’re so versatile and easy to use!
If you are new to pressure cooking we have a lot of easy one pot meal recipes for you here. To begin with let’s start with a few basic tips:
- Make sure to Bookmark our InstaPot recipes page. We add new ones each week!
- Then PRINT this —–> Instant Pot cooking times cheat sheet that will help you understand how long meat, vegetables and beans take to cook in your pressure cooker.
- I HIGHLY recommend you buy this non stick pot.
- You should know how to deglaze a pressure cooker after sautéing but it won’t have as many issues with this better liner.
For reference, this is the model I have (a 6 quart) and use for all recipe creations.
Instant Pot Churro Bites
Of course you can make homemade churro bites or if you need something really easy I have also used good old cinnamon muffin mix too my friends. 😉 You’re going to use this same silicone egg mold for pressure cookers for this one but don’t worry, I have other desserts you can use it for too.
- I did something similar when I first created Instant Pot blueberry muffins
- They came out just as fluffy and delicious as if I had turned on the oven (which I do not do during the summertime…let’s save energy and heat shall we).
First in a bowl mix your ingredients well, then prepare your silicone egg mold.
I have a few tips to help make sure you get this done just right the very first go around. Nobody wants to waste ingredients so listen to these before you get started;
How to Make Churro Bites with Egg Mold
- Use only a little bit of non stick spray inside your silicone egg bite mold
- Only fill holes 3/4 full
- any higher and they will overflow and not “bake” well
- Allow the Instant Pot (or other brand of pressure cooker) to naturally release for 10 minutes after it beeps that it is done cooking
- creates a fluffier consistency
- don’t quick release!!
- Carefully remove the egg mold and foil when done
- you don’t want them to continue to cook or they will be overdone
- removing the foil immediately prevents condensation from dripping down on to your doughnuts and making them wet
- Only wait a few minutes before popping your churro bites out of the mold
- waiting a few minutes so it cools down and you’re able to handle the mold is good, don’t burn yourself
Leaving them in the mold much longer than a few minutes will make your bites a bit wet and sticky as they “sweat” inside there.
Ninja Foodi Churro Bites
With this machine the directions are no different other than you need to remember to use the lid that is not attached.
Think of it like a muffin tin in a way. You do want some non stick spray so they pop right out and then you just fill with batter like you would muffins. 1/2 – 3/4 full is about right as there isn’t a lot of room for it to expand and rise and you don’t want it to overflow. I cover with foil so the condensation doesn’t drip down and make them wet.
This is what it should look like right before you put the lid on. We rolled our Instant Pot churro bites in plenty of brown sugar. Then I sprinkled a mixture of sugar and cinnamon on top (generously) to taste as similar to churros as I could get.
I had no idea if this would work because sometimes “baking” in a pressure cooker isn’t a success in my opinion and I’d rather use my oven but they were SO good!! Even my husband who is picky about textures couldn’t keep his hands off of them.
Can you double this recipe?
- Yes!
- If you have two egg molds you can stack them on top of one another (fits in my 6 qt. IP) and cook two batches at the same time.
- 12 minutes is fine for a double batch too, we’ve done it successfully!
Churro bites with chocolate sauce
Want to fill the insides with more goodies too? You can use a piping bag with a tip and squeeze Nutella or ganache in the middle too. Are you convinced yet that you need to make these like ASAP???!!
Churro Bites Instant Pot
Cinnamon swirl muffin / cake mix – this is the one I have used in the past if I go for a mix. For from scratch you will need the items below. Either way you’ll need cinnamon and sugar mixed together for the outsides.
Ingredients
- You will need silicone egg mold for pressure cookers
- If you have a hard time finding a boxed mix you can try to make homemade coffee cake and use that as your batter as an alternative, but I haven’t tested it out so you’d have to let me know if it’s a go as well.
- Cinnamon
- Can increase to 1 tbsp cinnamon total for stronger flavor
- Mixture of cinnamon and sugar
- Brown sugar
- Butter
- Milk
- Flour
- Baking powder
- Pressure cooker
Once you’ve enjoyed these you’ve got to try our Instant Pot bread pudding recipe and pressure cooker brownies bites using this egg mold too!
Other egg mold recipes you’ll love
I say they are the perfect pressure cooker breakfast item, okay they are dessert too but early in the morning anything is fair game as far as I am concerned. Once you have your egg mold and are obsessed with these you can make our pressure cooker egg bites and Instant Pot pancake bites ….you can even make mini meatloaf in them too!
Pressure Cooker Churro Bites
Equipment
- 1 pressure cooker
- 1 Bowl
- 1 egg mold
Ingredients
- 1 c all purpose flour
- 1/3 c butter, melted
- 1/2 c milk
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- topping
- 2 tbsp butter, melted, optional only if needed
- 1/2 c cinnamon and sugar
Instructions
- Mix dry ingredients in bowl and then incorporate wet for your batter until smooth.
- Spray your egg mold with a bit of non stick spray and fill your cups 3/4 of the way full. Add 1.5 c water into your pot and put a trivet into pot as well.
- Use a sling to lower mold down on to your trivet. (if you have 2 egg molds you can stack both in the same pot for the same time and make a double batch at once)
- Close lid and steam valve.
- Set Instant Pot or other pressure cooker to high pressure for 12 minutes. Allow to naturally release steam for 10 minutes then let the rest out
- Remove egg mold and allow to cool for just a few minutes, until you can pick up the mold.
- Gently push on the bottom of each hole to pop out each churro bite.
- Add cinnamon and sugar on to a plate or bowl and roll each churro bite into it so they are coated, will stick to outside.
- ** If yours have cooled a lot you may need to brush outside with melted butter first so it sticks.
- Enjoy! Can use an injector filled with cream cheese frosting to push frosting into the center of each one too if you want.

I am really interested in these! If I want to use the spice cake mix you recommend from Betty Crocker, do we mix the batter according to the box directions or do we use the recipe same for the box mix you prefer and then make our own cinnamon/sugar mix? Thx for advice!
