OMG you have got to go that step further to make filled churros this week. Whether you bake or air fry churros to a crisp, you can fill them inside with more goodness.

Chocolate makes for the best churros recipe ever. Whether you fill them with a jelly, chocolate or Nutella it should be a bite size crispy thin donut you’ll love. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar for the traditional way and choose whether you bake them or air fry. (affiliate links present)
Ninja Foodi Churros
If you choose to use your air fryer you can use any brand. I love easy Ninja Foodi recipes like this one because they come out crispier than baked. Takes less time too and the texture is just like deep fried but without all the added calories and fat from the added oil.
I have two versions you can choose from. If you want the “normal” way it is in the recipe card made with all purpose flour. However if you want keto churros that one is below right above that one where you’d use almond flour which is lower carbs.

Air Fryer Filled Churros
These are the items you’re going to need to make these from scratch. Below we have suggestions on fillings. Beyond that you can make your own whipped cream with heavy cream if you want to go all out.
- All purpose flour
- 2 eggs room temperature
- Water
- White sugar
- Pinch of salt
- Butter
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/2 c cinnamon and sugar
What can you fill churros with? I mean let your imagination go with this one. You want something that is on the thicker side so it doesn’t ooze right out of course. You could use jarred Nutella for something easy, jam, or sundae fudge.
- We have used chocolate fudge sauce inside our Instant Pot churro bites before which is always a hit.
- A fun fruity option is to fill the insides with homemade huckleberry jam

Churros with Chocolate Sauce
This is an air fryer recipe, but we have other options below. You will start with cooking over low/medium heat your butter until melted, add your water, sugar and a pinch of salt. Reduce your heat and mix in your flour so you create a batter.
- Remove pan from the heat and let it sit to cool slightly for 10 minutes. Then add vanilla and room temp eggs into a bowl and use a hand mixer to combine everything into a sticky dough.
- Transfer mixture into your piping bag with the correct churros shaped tip attached.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and pipe as many as you can on to the sheet without them touching.
- Place churro dough strips into the freezer flat for 1-2 hours until firmed.
- This is for air fryer churros – Preheat Cosori to 375 degrees F for 5 minutes. Spray inside of basket with non stick spray.
- Transfer raw churros into basket without touching. Spray tops with olive oil spray and cook for 10 minutes until golden brown.
Pour chocolate into a new pastry bag with piping tip attached. Pick up cooked churro and gently insert long tip into pastry 3/4 of the way in and gently squeeze while pulling the long tip out. Do this slowly until filled with chocolate sauce to the end. Put cinnamon and sugar mixture into a shallow bowl or on a plate, immediately roll into mixture to coat the outside and enjoy!!
Churro Bites
You can of course cut this into smaller chunks if you wanted to kinda’ like my air fryer pretzel bites. These are fun for kids and would take less time to cook too.

If you wanted to deep fry these you would heat your oil until it reached 400 degrees F. I like to add a drop of dough in there to see if it immediately starts to fry, but not burn. Vegetable oil is best so it doesn’t alter the flavor of your dough. Use tongs to remove, a wooden spoon is no good. Have the chocolate dipping sauce ready to either fill or just dip when done.
They would only take 3 minutes or so to get to a golden brown. You will want to use tongs to pick up each piece if you want stuffed churros since they will be really really hot. Use a piping bag fitted with a long hollow tip to fill.
How to Bake Churros in Oven
If you wanted to use the “old fashioned” way you could. I suggest using slightly different ingredients for this and baking at 350 degrees F for just 2 minutes or so on each side. You will need; 1 tbsp sugar, 1/2 c milk + 6 tbsp butter unsalted + 1 tsp salt + 1 c flour all purpose + 3 eggs.
- Bring milk, butter, salt, 1/2 c water, and 1 tbsp sugar to a simmer in a pan over medium/high heat.
- Using a wooden spoon add in flour quickly and mix fast for about 30 seconds until it creates a dough.
- Remove from pot and place in the bowl of your stand mixer.
- Allow to cool slightly for 5-10 minutes.
Use paddle attachment for your stand mixer and mix at medium/low speed. Add eggs to dough one at a time. Incorporate each egg well before adding the next one. Then bake at 350 for 2 min on each side.

Keto Churros Recipe
You will need a bit different ingredients for this one because of the flour of course. Below are instructions for baking them in the oven on a baking sheet.
- ¾ cup almond flour
- ½ cup coconut flour
- Half teaspoon xanthan gum
- Pinch of salt
- 1 cup of water
- One tablespoon coconut oil
- ¼ cup erythritol sweetener, plus extra to dust
- ¼ teaspoon cinnamon powder, plus extra to dust 1 large egg
Follow these instructions to make keto churros instead; To a medium bowl, add the almond flour, coconut flour, xantham gum, sugar, cinnamon, salt and whisk. Reserve.
- Bring a medium saucepan over medium heat, add the coconut oil and bring to a boil, remove from the heat and let it rest for 3 minutes.
- Add the dried ingredients mixture to the saucepan, stirring with a rubber spatula.
- Add the egg and mix well until incorporated.
- Cut a parchment paper to fit your air fryer basket, leaving room for the air to circulate.
- Pipe the dough onto the parchment paper leaving room to circulate between them.
- Bake for 15 minutes at 392ºF / 200ºc until the tips are golden and cooked through.
- Bake the churros for 15 minutes at 392ºF / 200ºc until the tips are golden.
