Don’t have a baking sheet on hand? NO problem if you wrap these babies first, that is one plus as far as that goes. Not a huge fan of crispy when it comes to taters, think they need to be tender as ever? Wrapping them first will get you that outcome! You can change your mind later too, I’ll show you how to get the skins crispy later. Just follow along.

Russet or baked Yukon gold potatoes in aluminum foil turn out great this way. You don’t need much to get this done either. All you do is wrap tightly, place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or foil and bake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 45 – 60 minutes. The timing will depend on the size yours are. Bake a Potato in Convection Oven

You might have one of these “fancy” things that can decrease cook time, and is kinda’ a cross between air frying and baking to me. For this type you will bake the potatoes at 375 for 45 to 50 minutes and turn them halfway get get the middle nice and tender. I like to use baby potatoes for this because the space is much smaller. You could cut the timing in half with these.

Now with this countertop appliance you do need to be careful with aluminum in general. You will need to make sure it is wrapped tightly and far enough away from the coils so they don’t touch. If it does it can cause too much heat to be created in a very small area and cause it to overheat and break and/or the glass to break.

If you want to skip the wrapping you can. The reason to leave it off is to get a thicker crunchier skin. You’d want to follow our steps on the best way to bake potatoes without foil here to do it that way.

  • Wash and remove debris from outside of Idaho potato skins.
    • I mean you don’t have to live in ID. to love these but we do so there’s that…..
  • Dry off with paper towels to remove as much water as possible. Use a knife or fork to pierce each one 6 times all the way around.
  • Rub or brush just a bit of olive oil on the outside of the skins and can sprinkle on some salt as well at this time. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Tightly wrap them in foil to seal shut for the perfect baked potato.
  • Place on a baking sheet and bake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 45 – 60 minutes baking time or until knife inserted in the center goes in and out smoothly.

If you do this method you can bake chicken thighs at 375 on a sheet pan at the same time. That way you have your protein and side dish, starch item, ready at the same time or near to it.

How to make Baked Potato Skins Crispy

This is what you would do after the first steps were completed. Take out sheet, increase heat to 425 degrees F. Remove foil, brush potatoes with olive oil all the around each potato and put back on baking sheet. Sprinkle them all with sea salt and heat for another 10 minutes or until skins are as crispy as you’d like.

You can follow these same steps for russet, Yukon, sweet potatoes at 375 or red. Potatoes for baking really just depend on your preference or what you have on hand really. The biggest difference is the taste, texture and thickness of the skins mostly.

Does it take longer to bake potatoes in foil?

A little bit because the aluminum has to heat up first before the food inside can. The biggest benefit is the texture to the outside will be different with and/or without it on. If you insist on crispy skins you will want to leave it off while you bake or air fry them. We will explain the timing here.

What Goes with Baked Potatoes

You can stuff with all sorts of things. Baked potato with shrimp is a low fat one with just some butter, salt and pepper in that baby. They really are a versatile side dish that can be paired with many different flavors and textures. Served as a side dish or multiple main dish potato recipe ideas like with;

  3. For a heartier dish, top with shredded cheddar cheese and crumbled bacon.

  5. Steamed vegetables: For a healthier option, serve your baked potato with steamed vegetables such as broccoli, carrots, or green beans.

To make it into a main dish you can fill it with fresh or leftover grilled or roasted meats. Chopped up steak, chicken, or pork chops pulled pork potatoes are great choices.

There are two ways you can do this well. The fastest one is to reheat baked potato in air fryer really, you will get the crispiest texture that way too. In the oven you’ll preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

It is best to first take them out of the fridge while it’s preheating to reach room temperature. Put on a baking sheet or directly on the oven rack to achieve a crispy skin for 10-15 minutes
