Ninja Foodi french fries are easy to make in your new air fryer machine! Healthy and homemade potato sticks are tender inside and crispy bites done in no time to serve with dinner.

Ok so I am loving my new air crisp and electric pressure cooker! Have you seen this??!! This 3 in 1 cooker has the ability to do it all and get dinner on the table in no time at all…and crisp it before it gets there too. We will begin with French fries recipe because well, everyone loves anything potato (especially here in Idaho). 😉 This and more are now on our Ninja Foodi recipes page.
If you’re new to this machine and how to air fry food you’re in for a real treat here. Fries are just the beginning but something that everyone loves so it is a good place to start.
You kinda’ can’t go wrong with them and even the kids will want you to use it every single day after this. You’ll find more air fryer dinner recipes to make after that. Excited to get going and anxious to see what all the hype is about? I was too, and always like to share easy step by step directions in case you’re a little anxious at the beginning. 😉

What you’ll need to make fries in the Ninja Foodi
Potatoes – let’s go with russet shall we (Leave skins on which make them even healthier. Sliced pretty thin.) You could use fingerling potatoes if you wanted and slice into sticks too.
Olive oil – again, healthier than vegetable oil – we considered using avocado oil too but will try that next time.
Seasonings – use what you would typically like on your fries, we are all about Lawry’s over here – it’s the bomb. We share how to make air fryer baked potatoes here if you want to leave them whole too.
with Frozen French Fries
You can (but they aren’t as good as these). For those instructions you would follow our frozen french fries air fryer steps. I will say that this method is by far better than in the oven though y’all. Overall cook time will vary depending on how thick your potato slices are. Check the last few minutes until they’re golden brown to your liking. Then serve with fry sauce!!
Cooking Tips
To begin with let’s chat about what lid you’re going to use. It came with 2 right, so which is which? The one attached is for air frying foods of all kinds. You will also want the basket with the holes on the bottom to set these in so the hot air can circulate properly for the ideal texture.
I’d highly suggest you leave the skins on so they can hold the pieces together better and provide texture. If they aren’t crisp enough at the end, shake, spray with olive oil and set time to 3 minutes more, check and continue on that way until they are super crispy to your liking.

Ninja Foodi French Fries Recipe
Equipment
- 1 air fryer ninja foodi with lid attached
- 1 knife
- 1 cutting board
Ingredients
- 5 medium potatoes, russet, 1.5 lbs.
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 tsp seasoned salt
Instructions
- Wash, dry, and slice potatoes into strips (like french fries), leave skins on. Lay them on paper towels and wrap up so you remove as much moisture on the outside as possible.
- Put them in a bowl and rub olive oil on them.
- Place them into the air fryer basket in your Ninja Foodi or other air fryer machine. (can add some seasoning at this time, we prefer to season at the end)
- Close lid (one that is attached), turn machine on.
- Press the air crisp button. Set temp. to 390 for 20-23 minutes. Flip 3 times during total cook time (so every 7 minutes or so).
- Add a few minutes extra if you want them browner/crispier or take out earlier if you want them very lightly browned. Remove immediately when done for best results.
- Salt and serve.

Why are French fries in an air fryer better?
There is NO need for oil, other than a drizzle. It saves you a ton of money cutting out that ingredient. The obvious is that is is much healthier for you. Food absorbs quite a bit of oil and no matter what type you use and consuming oil isn’t great. This machine is much safer since oil splatters. I especially never liked frying when my kids were around, made me nervous.
But STILL your food comes out crispy. The texture of food is important in the overall taste. Nobody likes limp fries or chicken strips and there’s no need to turn on your oven or stovetop.
When it is the summertime and you live in 90/100 degree weather that is the last thing you want to do. We lived in the desert for a long time where it was over 100 for weeks at a time, it was miserable. There was NO way I was going to bake anything which made it hard to figure out what to have for dinner.

Just got my Foodi for Christmas and I am wondering if I can double recipes in it my family is large
Of course, you’ll just need to do a few more batches for the air fry function as you don’t want to overlap food too much
Hi there,
just opened my Foodi box so newbie here… wondering can the Foodi do smaller quantities? Servings 6 seems a lot lol how would I adjust the cooking times?
Thanks
Kind regards
Sheila
Of course you can cook less. It may decrease time just a bit but not that much. Just lift the lid ahead of time to check and put back down to continue cooking until they’re as crispy as you want.
I am trying the frys in my ninja food I today will post what we think
Because of you, I’m going to Costco tomorrow to buy one just to make your fries.!
Yay!!
For even better fries, after slicing rinse in water until it’s not cloudy. This washes off the excess starch that makes them “sticky.” Dry, mist with oil, season before or after cooking. Yumm!!
This is a great idea! Thanks
This is exactly what i just did!!! I can’t wait for them to cook!
If I want crisp french fries, and want to cook something else as well for dinner, how do I keep the fries crispy and hot while cooking the rest of the meal (which might be something pressure cooked?
Can keep lid closed to keep warm but wouldn’t long or they will continue cooking a bit and will harden slightly as they sit.
I think Nancy meant that she wants to use the fryer to continue making dinner. LoL
Cook rest of meal 1st…then Fries Last…Duhh…Lol
Haha obviously.
You have the perfect “food warmer” in your kitchen.. Preheat your “stove” oven to 200 Deg.. Put “cooked” foods in oven safe dish, cover.. and store in the oven til all your foods are table ready… I’ve done this for years.. nothing cooks further, nothing burns.. everything stays as it should…
Love my Ninja Foodi!!
Us too!
We love our Foodi too! My 12 year old son made french fries last night: the BEST fries ever! Not only did he learn how to use the Foodi, he also learned how to use a mandolin (best way to cut fries, chips, etc). My 14 year old made potato chips. Neither boy has ever offered to make anything, let alone even ask to learn. The Ninja Foodi is changing our family for the better in many respects!
Yeah for him!! Glad you loved them.
How do you open the steam vent on the attached lid? the only lid that has a steam vent is the pressure cooker lid. Plus how can you cook hamburgers at the same time.
Sorry I was typing too fast, removed that line. There isn’t a steam valve on the air fryer lid, just the pressure cooker lid. Hope you enjoyed them!
I haven’t seen this new device yet – it looks intriguing! And those fries look amazing so crisp and perfect!
This is such a great, easy recipe! We’ll be making it again and again!
