Ninja Foodi french fries are easy to make in your new air fryer machine! Healthy and homemade potato sticks are tender inside and crispy bites done in no time to serve with dinner.

Ok so I am loving my new air crisp and electric pressure cooker! Have you seen this??!! This 3 in 1 cooker has the ability to do it all and get dinner on the table in no time at all…and crisp it before it gets there too. We will begin with French fries recipe because well, everyone loves anything potato (especially here in Idaho). 😉 This and more are now on our Ninja Foodi recipes page.
If you’re new to this machine and how to air fry food you’re in for a real treat here. Fries are just the beginning but something that everyone loves so it is a good place to start.
You kinda’ can’t go wrong with them and even the kids will want you to use it every single day after this. You’ll find more air fryer dinner recipes to make after that. Excited to get going and anxious to see what all the hype is about? I was too, and always like to share easy step by step directions in case you’re a little anxious at the beginning. 😉

What you’ll need to make fries in the Ninja Foodi
Potatoes – let’s go with russet shall we (Leave skins on which make them even healthier. Sliced pretty thin.) You could use fingerling potatoes if you wanted and slice into sticks too.
Olive oil – again, healthier than vegetable oil – we considered using avocado oil too but will try that next time.
Seasonings – use what you would typically like on your fries, we are all about Lawry’s over here – it’s the bomb. We share how to make air fryer baked potatoes here if you want to leave them whole too.
with Frozen French Fries
You can (but they aren’t as good as these). For those instructions you would follow our frozen french fries air fryer steps. I will say that this method is by far better than in the oven though y’all. Overall cook time will vary depending on how thick your potato slices are. Check the last few minutes until they’re golden brown to your liking. Then serve with fry sauce!!
Cooking Tips
To begin with let’s chat about what lid you’re going to use. It came with 2 right, so which is which? The one attached is for air frying foods of all kinds. You will also want the basket with the holes on the bottom to set these in so the hot air can circulate properly for the ideal texture.
I’d highly suggest you leave the skins on so they can hold the pieces together better and provide texture. If they aren’t crisp enough at the end, shake, spray with olive oil and set time to 3 minutes more, check and continue on that way until they are super crispy to your liking.

Ninja Foodi French Fries Recipe
Equipment
- 1 air fryer ninja foodi with lid attached
- 1 knife
- 1 cutting board
Ingredients
- 5 medium potatoes, russet, 1.5 lbs.
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 tsp seasoned salt
Instructions
- Wash, dry, and slice potatoes into strips (like french fries), leave skins on. Lay them on paper towels and wrap up so you remove as much moisture on the outside as possible.
- Put them in a bowl and rub olive oil on them.
- Place them into the air fryer basket in your Ninja Foodi or other air fryer machine. (can add some seasoning at this time, we prefer to season at the end)
- Close lid (one that is attached), turn machine on.
- Press the air crisp button. Set temp. to 390 for 20-23 minutes. Flip 3 times during total cook time (so every 7 minutes or so).
- Add a few minutes extra if you want them browner/crispier or take out earlier if you want them very lightly browned. Remove immediately when done for best results.
- Salt and serve.

Why are French fries in an air fryer better?
There is NO need for oil, other than a drizzle. It saves you a ton of money cutting out that ingredient. The obvious is that is is much healthier for you. Food absorbs quite a bit of oil and no matter what type you use and consuming oil isn’t great. This machine is much safer since oil splatters. I especially never liked frying when my kids were around, made me nervous.
But STILL your food comes out crispy. The texture of food is important in the overall taste. Nobody likes limp fries or chicken strips and there’s no need to turn on your oven or stovetop.
When it is the summertime and you live in 90/100 degree weather that is the last thing you want to do. We lived in the desert for a long time where it was over 100 for weeks at a time, it was miserable. There was NO way I was going to bake anything which made it hard to figure out what to have for dinner.

They are all great served with a frozen chicken wings in air fryer for lunch. They’re better than cooking them in the oven. We are totally obsessed with both of these as side dishes or an after school snack!

I automatically put them in a salt water bath, which was, in hindsight, not the smartest thing to do. I dried them as best as I could, but it added an extra 10 mins to the air frying time. We’ve only had our ninja foodie for a few weeks, hello learning curve, haha. Next time I won’t soak them like I normally would. They turned out crispy on the outside and soft on the inside so even with my messup they were great!
I meant to give them a 5 star rating. Oops. 10/10 will make again
Awesome
@Sarah, thanks for that tip as I usually soak mine too.
I made these fries and they were good but not crisp enough. I didn’t dry them enough, I think. I will next time try the soaking method several have recommended, then dry them completely. I purchased the dehydrating rack for the cooker. Has anyone had success cooking more fries at the same time on multiple levels in the cooker?
I made these Fries today. I’m using a Ninja Foodi OS101. The Ninja came in the mail today and this is my first time using it or any airfryer. I used 1 large (13 oz) russet potato. I’m writing this as the fries are cooking. I’m at the 14 minute mark and just stirred them around and have to say they are looking good so far. Well they turned out great. I’ll be making these again for sure.
OH good, glad it was a first time hit
I have always blanched fries in salt water prior to frying them. Is this not the best prep in your opinion? Planning to make these today.
I also am an Idahoan and have been using all the features of the Foodi! I love the air Fryer. Cooking my first fresh cut now. I went a little thicker so I added an extra 5 minutes… I’ll standby before posting results!
Ok! I’m back! Absolutely perfection if monitored alot near the end. Stirring every 7 minutes is a solid time frame. Mine took 33 for a thicker cut fry.
Thanks much!
Jon
Awesome!
You say set temp to 390. Do you mean 190. ?
It’s Fahrenheit so roughly 200 degrees Celsius.
hi, thanks for this recipe. I do have a question: you seem to use the crips funtion only. But why not use the pressure cooker to get the fries cooked and then the airfryer to get them crispy?
That isn’t necessary because the insides stay soft and fluffy. If you pressure cook them first they will get really soft really fast and start to disintegrate. Just use air crisp
I made this French Fries recipe tonight and they were delicious.Thank-you!!I love my Ninja Foodie!!
yay!!!
Made these tonight, so easy and delicious. Not greasy nice and crispy with nice color. Cut them small and were done in20 min. Will be making these often. Thanks for all the good info!
Oh yay!
I am wondering if you can Pressure fry with oil?
You mean air fry?
