Ninja Foodi Jasmine Rice

That is right, you can use electric pressure cooker. Use our Instant Pot Jasmine rice instructions for any brand of pressure cooker you might have at home. We have them all including a Mealthy and Crockpot Express too. I think it is important to ensure that they all work the same no no failures occur when everyone is hangry.

Unlike Instant Pot white rice or making Ninja Foodi Jasmine rice where long grain rice is added, the cook time is shorter. Then you add time with a natural release at the end. This will make your grains fluffy and swell so each piece is thicker.

If you are new to pressure cooking we have a lot of easy one pot meal recipes for you here. To begin with let’s start with a few basic tips:

For reference, this is the model I have (a 6 quart) and use for all recipe creations.

A white Instant Pot with a Star Wars theme sits on the kitchen counter, ready to tackle your favorite beef arm roast recipe. The digital display glows "On." Next to it lie a patterned cloth and some green onions, all against the backdrop of blue kitchen cabinets and a stovetop.

How Long to Cook Pressure Cooker Jasmine Rice

We eat a lot of this stuff because it takes less than 20 minutes total. Growing up, cooking rice was a daily thing. Maybe because I was born and raised for several years in Hawaii. Everyone ate this quick and easy side dish with everything, with almost every single meal. They didn’t have these “magic pots” back then though.

Before this we just used a rice cooker. Yes that corked well. Using it as often as we did it was kept on the countertop at all times. I will say that it wasn’t often we bought this style because it was more expensive. I didn’t start experimenting with anything beyond long grain until I was an adult.

NOW this is all I buy, it is so much better than any other variety, including Arborio….unless I want boxed. Then I cook Instant Pot Rice a Roni as a quick side dish.

This is the most popular brand out there. Mahatma bags were on sale the other day so I bought every single one they had. Since we cook 2 cups at a time one of these won’t last very long and lasts several years so I always load up.

  1. Uncooked Jasmine rice
  2. Water
  3. Measuring cup

That is all that you need. Beyond that you might like a pat of butter or drizzle of soy sauce on the top.

What is the ratio of water to rice for Jasmine rice?

It is a bit more than 1:1 I like. I add about 1/8 of a cup more than that per cup used. We always cook 2 cups of rice at a time for the 4-5 of us and add 2 1/4 cups of liquid. Water is what we use but some prefer chicken broth instead. Either way works just fine to create perfectly cooked rice.

For Instant Pot wild rice it is 1:2, a bit easier to judge but takes a lot longer to cook. This is how to cook arborio rice if you want to try them all.

The instructions for any brand of electric pressure cooker would be the same as below. As long as you have the high pressure function you will be good to go.

How long do you cook Jasmine rice in Ninja Foodi?

6 minutes with some time for natural release. This post here explains the difference between cooking this variety vs. long grain, there is a difference. Do not use the rice button for this type, our timing here will be more successful.

What is the difference between Jasmine rice and white rice?

Both are white because the outer hull and bran are removed. This means both types are less nutritious than their brown counterparts. Each type is more popular in different geographical locations, this is eaten most in Thailand.

To rinse or not to rinse. I do not rinse my rice, really ever. Some swear by it and won’t eat it unless they do, that is okay, we are all different. 😉 I’ll tell you the biggest difference between the two methods. If you do pour it into a strainer and rinse it, the grains will separate more when done. Not rinsing will create a sort of sticky rice we like.

Instant Pot Sticky Rice

Think of it like sushi rice you get with a piece of fish on top and a bit of wasabi. You know how it’s really stuck together into one piece, it is more like that if you “swish it” as I explain below. I have detailed information and ingredients listed below but here’s a quick rundown.

  • Pour uncooked Jasmine white rice into pot with water. Pick up pot and swirl contents around so water gets cloudy. (if you choose to rinse rice beforehand you can skip the swirl step)
  • Close and lock pressure cooker lid and make sure to turn steam valve to seal. Set to high pressure for 6 minutes. DO NOT release the pressure when done.
  • Instead let it sit for a 8 minute natural release when done.
  • Then let rest of pressure out and lift lid. Fluff rice and serve immediately for best results.

Seriously you can add the rice to just about everything. You can make pressure cooker fried rice with it, eat it plain, or serve with slices of air fryer cube steak on top. It only takes about 15 minutes to cook and sit in the pot to fluff so it’s easy and fast.

Swirl, sticky, separated or however you prefer to make it I assure you’ll never make it another way again. I bet you will be like myself and give away your “old fashioned” countertop cooker and never use the stovetop again. That way takes forever waiting for the water to boil. I haven’t done that method in I can’t tell you how long.

Looking to make Instant Pot brown rice and/or Instant Pot black rice too? That takes quite a while longer but yes in fact it does have more nutrition naturally. Each one is specific and should be followed exactly for success.

You can cut this in half if you are feeding just 2 of you or so. Let us know what you serve this with and if you like other “toppers” other than butter or soy, those are our go tos but I know everyone has their preferences.

If you want to add other ingredients like our Instant Pot black beans and rice, keep the same timing here so the grains get tender because they take a bit longer natural release than others.

Note: If you do live at a much higher altitude you may need to add an additional 1/4 cup of liquid. My mom who uses my recipes regularly had to do a bit of experimenting because she is quite a bit higher than we are in Idaho. Her findings were that she needed a tad bit more to make it the consistency you see at my house. 😉
