This is how to make fluffy Ninja Foodi rice! Once you have this perfected with long grain or Jasmine rice you can make Ninja Foodi wild rice too! Here are tips on how to make the best pressure cooker rice so it’s done fluffy every single time.

Cooked white rice being stirred with a spoon inside a Ninja Foodi rice cooker.

Making Ninja Foodi rice is simple really. But if you’re new to making any Ninja Foodi recipes then this will be quite helpful. We make brown and white rice several times a week. Whether we’re serving it plain with butter on top for a snack or with chicken or beef served on top it’s a cheap dish we love.

If you don’t make this on a weekly basis we may not be able to be friends. 😉 Just kidding, it is just on our meal planning often because it was something my mom cooked with dinner almost every single night growing up.

How Long to Cook White Rice in Ninja Foodi

Plain with just a pat of butter on it would be my youngest daughter’s favorite after school snack. She makes it all by herself now that she is a teenager. With long grain it takes 12 minutes total, or 16 minutes for jasmine rice in pressure cooker.

Ninja Foodi Rice Water Ratio

What you need to make rice in your Ninja Foodi pressure cooker and air fryer is just the grains you desire and water or broth. The latter will yield more flavor, or half and half works well too. For brown I typically will do 1/2 of each because without it we think it is a bit bland. The ratio is 2 cups rice: 2.5 water for best results.

You are going to measure our your rice raw and use the cook times as stated below or with links in this post for; brown rice, white rice – I prefer Jasmine or adding flavor like how to make Ninja Foodi Mexican rice. As for the necessary liquid you are typically going to use water but you can also use half water and half broth. You literally need NO accessories to make this

Most of the time we will serve this with Ninja Foodi chili recipe over the top with cheese sprinkled on that.

How do you use Ninja Foodi as a rice cooker?

I will admit that we make white rice in the pressure cooker 90% of the time. My kids prefer that, and I kinda’ do too. It makes the grains so fluffy without any effort on my part, you just throw it right in. You have the choice to either press the rice button which will automatically set the time to 12 minutes or you can press pressure cook and adjust to that timing with the + sign.

Can you add vegetables?

You could but they would need to take 12 minutes meaning that you would need to choose firm varieties such as carrots or potatoes. You don’t want to submerge into the water or the ratio will be off so instead set a trivet in the pot with the veggies on the top. Half potatoes and/or peel and chunk carrots into thirds or so.

Brown Rice in Ninja Foodi

We have perfected pressure cooker brown rice too. I don’t make this quite as often as white is our favorite. I like to offer all 3 versions though for you since it is nice to rotate between them throughout the week. With fish I might choose the wild variety for texture.

It is a versatile side dish, naturally gluten free, and brown rice has fiber in it which we all need. I will share both of these and instructions for them below. The recipe card below is for white long grain rice. I like Jasmine as well and will work for that as well.

What goes well with rice?

We have a recipe to make Ninja Foodi risotto too if you’d like to try that. Typically that is a side dish to a protein of some sort. Our Ninja Foodi roast recipe was served with white rice or Ninja Foodi sausage

Pressure cooker beef and broccoli is on top a bed of rice or make our pressure cooker spicy honey chicken is amazing too

We put chili on top all of the time too. This is the best rice recipe for pressure cookers. You won’t be disappointed. Note: higher altitudes may require more water to get the same results.

  1. I would swear this is where I got the recipe last time,… But this is completely unreadable 🙁

    1. @Jennifer, Yes absolutely! In Asia, we have packaged rice that has mixed brown and white. And even tri or quad coloured. But I would think it would be best if they were of similar length. For example basmati is long-grain, jasmine is medium-grain and sushi is short-grain.

      1. Different types of white cook slightly different but wouldn’t be an issue probably. You cannot mix brown and white as they have a very different cook and natural release time.

  2. Hi, i cook for a large family so I usually make 4-5 cups of rice in my rice cooker. How much water do I need to make it in my Ninji Foodi 9 in 1?? Also cook and release time would help. Thanks

    1. You could double this using 4 c uncooked rice with double the water as well, timing would remain the same.

  3. Thank you so much. We have a sick dog and have never cooked rice in our ninja foodi and this was a great great help.

  4. Great recipe! However I always find the rice to always be too sticky. How do I fix this?

    1. If you don’t like the texture you can decrease cook time by 1-2 minutes, that way it will keep the grain together a big more.

    2. @Jeremiah, if you are not rinsing your rice it will be sticky. Swirl rice in the pan with water and drain. Repeat until the water is no longer cloudy. Cook according to recipe.

    3. @Jeremiah,
Rinse your rice a few times in a colander before cooking it.It takes the starch out that makes it so sticky! Since I been doin this my rice comes out fab and fluffy!🙂Hope this helps!

  5. Thanks so much for the recipe. I just recently purchased the foodie ninja and am trying to find recipes for it. The cookbook that comes with it I have found that the measurements and times are totally wrong! Appreciate this great quick recipe 🙂

  6. Hello, I tried cooking black rice and followed the instruction in the guide with also 15 mins on High pressure cook, and have turned to ‘seal’. It happened to release a large amount of strong steam DURING the 15 mins count down, with the pressure button popped up. Is this a normal phenomenon? I have checked online and believed it shouldn’t be releasing steam during the cooking in operation, or just a small amount. However, mine was giving out steam vigorously like exactly how quick release is, which seems abnormal.

I have also ran through a water test at the beginning and it was performing normally during the test – with no steam release during the 2 mins operation time.

Would you have any advice please? Thanks much!

    1. @Lil, what heat level was your burner at? That sounds like the excess pressure safety valve was set off because the water was boiling too fast.

  7. I did as said then it never got to 2 minutes but said add more water what did I do wrong?

  8. These recipes are all over the net. This site is so annoying and even somewhat insulting having to scroll through inane remarks and comments and ADS that pop up covering the script! I can’t even see. see what I’m typing because of a little ad that keeps jumping in front of the screen! Its pathetic.

    1. @Carole thorn, I could not agree with you more!! I just want a recipe. I don’t want to learn about somebody’s likes or dislikes their 100 year history with the recipe. Just give me the recipe and then maybe down below you could have all your BS writing.

    2. @Carole thorn and @AnJay, you are complaining about free recipes. If you don’t like the site, then go to another one….better yet…buy a cookbook. No one is forcing you to stay on this site. I sounds like you are just angry hostile people and because you have a keyboard the rest of the world must be entitled to your opinions. You are wasting time and this person’s website space.

    4. @Denise, I went back to check & this recipe doesn’t give the option to jump to recipe. Sorry!
