I decided to combine my two favorites things for dinner last night, we called it easy Swedish meatball casserole. It took no time at all to make. Just one of our quick and easy casseroles. (affiliate links present)

Swedish Meatball Noodle Bake

Traditionally my grandma made her own meatballs from scratch, and although those were delicious I just don’t have time for that step. Using frozen meatballs, I can whip up this easy comfort food casserole up in just fifteen minutes.

Get your noodles to al dente, fold it all together with our Swedish Meatball Sauce with Sour Cream, throw it in the oven to bubble up with crispy fried onions on top while I was busy doing laundry or playing a game with my kids and dinner is done. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Ingredients

  1. Cooked Perfect Meatballs – frozen, bagged
  2. French’s fried onions
    1. or make your own homemade crispy fried onions
  3. Egg noodles work the best for these to soak in the sauce
  4. Cream is better than milk to get a thick rich sauce
  5. Butter for the sauce too
  6. Dijon mustard is the pop of flavor for that classic flavor
  7. Worcestershire sauce is great
  8. Beef broth is better than water and provides the moisture you need to cook it to tender
  9. Salt and pepper are the basic seasonings

Non stick cooking spray is great to spray your 9×13″ pan to bake in the oven. You could use ground beef to make meatballs and precook before adding into your baking dish.

You can typically find these frozen meatballs in your local grocery store though. They’re in the freezer section. Buy a few bags while you’re at it and try our pressure cooker frozen meatballs recipe later.

Just three minutes in the microwave warms the entire bag up. Add them to your creamy sauce, then into a casserole dish and top with crispy fried onions. You’re ready to pop it in the oven now for just twenty minutes.

What else can you eat meatballs with?

  1. By themselves with a side of pasta like butter noodles
  2. Alone topped with cheese
  3. Refrigerated biscuit pull apart bread is a great side dish
  4. Instant Pot white rice or quinoa
  5. Air fryer vegetables
  6. Meatball soup
What is a Swedish Meatball?

Of course sauce is the biggest part of the flavoring component that sets these two apart. Italian meatballs are typically served in a tangy tomato sauce (marinara). Swedish meatballs are cooked in a rich, creamy gravy made with beef or bone broth and sour cream.

How to save leftovers

Leftover casserole saves quite well as long as you keep all that great sauce. Once cooled toss it together again to coat the pasta bake. Transfer it into a container with a lid or a freezer bag. Eliminate as much air as possible so it doesn’t dry out. Store in your refrigerator for up to 3 days max.

How to reheat a leftover casserole

When you reheat put it into a heat safe bowl and toss again. If you have extra sauce pour that on top. Microwave for 45 seconds, stir, and heat again for another 45 sec. to 1 minute until it is as warm as you’d like.

  1. This looks good saved it to make later however I am diabetic and it’s important for me to have the correct nutrition facts. There is no way this only has 4 carbs like it shows. Could you e-mail me the correct info please?

  2. I have a question about the nutrition. How could there only be 6 g of carbs and 1 g of protein per serving with all that is in this recipe? I think there is a mistake here. Even with 10 servings, it seems quite low.

  3. My husband just informed me that he loves Swedish Meatballs so I’m adding this to our grocery list to make sometime soon. This sounds absolutely delicious and I cannot wait to try it.

    1. There is an entire pkg. of meatballs so the pasta is just a part of it, sesrves 6-10 depending on servings.
