OH yes we love this Instant Pot chicken noodle soup!! No need to be sick to make this soup in your Instant Pot, it is the perfect meal any time of year as far as I am concerned. Just one of many easy Instant Pot recipes we’ve made and are adding more each and every day. 😉
Ninja Foodi Chicken Noodle Soup Recipe
No matter what pot you use it only requires a few fresh ingredients, and when cooked on high pressure in your pressure cooker it only takes 5 minutes to come out perfect! It doesn’t matter what brand you use but as an easy Ninja Foodi recipe you will use the lid that is not attached.
We’ve made chicken soup in Crockpot many times but with the arrival of my new favorite appliance I knew I could make it much faster in my Instant Pot.
If you are new to pressure cooking we have a lot of easy one pot meal recipes for you here. To begin with let’s start with a few basic tips:
- Make sure to Bookmark our InstaPot recipes page. We add new ones each week!
- Then PRINT this —–> Instant Pot cooking times cheat sheet that will help you understand how long meat, vegetables and beans take to cook in your pressure cooker.
- I HIGHLY recommend you buy this non stick pot.
- You should know how to deglaze a pressure cooker after sautéing but it won’t have as many issues with this better liner.
For reference, this is the model I have (a 6 quart) and use for all recipe creations.

Ingredient Notes
As for the vegetables I typically will add bite sized Onions carrots and celery since those are relatively firm and will hold up under high pressure. Remember when prepping them that the thinner or smaller the pieces are the more tender they will become. Since it is such a quick cook time you don’t want them to be too big or they may not become quite fork tender which is the ideal texture.
48 ounces of liquid is about the perfect amount for the noodles to absorb a bit of it and still have liquid to drink (or slurp) up. You can use a can or our pressure cooker chicken broth made from scratch. I use about the same for Instant Pot chicken stew, unless I want it thicker.
As far as the pasta I add, the most traditional would be egg noodles. Small pasta shells would work too but they are a bit firmer and won’t have the same look or feel.
What is the best chicken to make soup?
That depends on your preference really, but boneless skinless breasts were used here. Honest I typically see what is on sale and use that. f I had to choose my favorite though and money was no object I might say that dark meat would be my fave. Adding a lot more flavor to the overall dish just with brown vs. white meat it’s kinda’ a game changer. You could use leftover chicken or Instant Pot frozen chicken as well which I have done time and time again because quite frankly I hate wasting food.
Can you use rotisserie chicken?
Yes!! If you buy one (or use leftovers) just dice into small pieces and then you can skip the first step of sauteing since it is already done. This option makes it a very quick and easy process. Just add in with your diced veggies and continue on with other steps for the same cook time.

What can I add to my chicken noodle soup for flavor?
Minced garlic is something that I add to all the things. Add a bay leaf into the pot with the broth if you’d like. If you want to make it creamier with a thicker sauce you can use the same ingredients but make Instant Pot chicken noodle casserole instead.
If you want more of an Asian flare you could use Pho noodles more similar to our Instant Pot ramen recipe. We are always trying to eat as healthy as possible and I will say that having Instant Pot recipes on hand really helped with that!
Tips for Success
When cooking noodles in a pressure cooker you want to release pressure quickly. This is different than if you’re cooking a dish with rice like our Instant Pot chicken and rice. With those it is best to give it about 3 minutes to naturally release and “puff up” the white rice.
If using egg noodles like we are here, they take the least amount of time. If you like them al dente aim for 2 minutes vs. 3. That comes down to preference really.

How long can you keep chicken noodle soup in the fridge?
Properly stored in airtight containers, cooked chicken soup will last for 3 to 4 days in the refrigerator. In order to extend the shelf life you should freeze it. You will need covered airtight containers or heavy duty freezer bags to do this.
Can you freeze homemade chicken noodle soup?
Soups that contain pasta like chicken noodle or minestrone, won’t hold up to the freezer very well unfortunately. If you’re cooking soup specifically to freeze, just hold out on adding the pasta. If you cook everything else, freeze, and reheat your freezer meal you can add freshly boiled noodles then. This is the best method to follow.
Use the same directions for an easy Ninja Foodi recipe such as this one. Same goes for our Instant Pot chicken rice soup.
How can chicken noodle soup be made without boiling it for hours? Pressure cook all your ingredients together in just a few minutes!! You will get the same tender moist meat and al dente egg noodles in far less time. You can even start with frozen chicken breasts steamed with broth for 12 minutes, then dice and continue as directed on recipe card below.

It is just a pre programmed button available to you. I hardly ever use it. Rather I use the pressure cook high (or low) functions and the specific cook time that is needed.
You could use Instant Pot frozen chicken if that is all you have. Just note that you’d need to do this using the pressure cook function with only broth for about 12 minutes using small breasts. Then continue with adding veggies and noodles. The latter only ned 2-3 minutes on high pressure to soften.
You bet it is! I mean there are very few ingredients and most are fresh produce and lean meat. Use low sodium chicken broth if you need to cut down on the salt, no problems there.

This looks like it will be so delicious!
It is!!
Made this tonight ! Super fast, easy and delicious!!! And with ingredients I already had! Will definitely save and make again !
Oh, forgot to mention, I added kale and a little Tamari (for flavor depth) to this too. Seems like the possibilities for additions are endless too, the Tamari didn’t give it an Asian flare at all, you don’t even really detect it as Tamari but I do think it added some heft to the flavor. I might try a little lemon next time or ginger root…hmmmm
Instant Pot makes it pretty simple and fast to start with a whole chicken or chicken parts and make your own chicken broth too if you don’t mind the extra step or plan enough to whip up the chicken and broth another day or over the weekend when you have the time to then take the meat off the bones and carcass and pack them the way you choose for fridge or freezer. Chicken broth just from cooking the chicken, chicken bone broth from a couple of 90 min rounds on high after the meat is off the bones. I found this while trying to figure out if I could cook the noodles in the soup and was so happy to find I could, thank you! This IP is unbelievable, I can even make a good hearty real beef stew in the time it takes my husband to drive home without having to plan it. I have always made good use of my crock pots (yes I have a few) in the fall and winter in particular but now that I have found the IP, well the taste of everything that comes out of it doesn’t have that similarity the meals that come out of the crock pot tend to and I’m finding through sites and people like you that it’s versatility is vast. Thank you!
Awesome!
After a long 12 hr shift this is perfect! My husband can’t believe I actually want to make something. Haha Can’t wait to see how it turns out!
Does the time chenagr if using different type of noodles?
* change, sorry
Not unless they’re gluten free, those take a minute or so longer.
Excellent! Easy and delist. I had previously cooked chicken breasts. Added it after the 4 minutes cooking time. Worked fine…also added a couple of teaspoons of poultry seasoning.
How many cups is 1 serving? Trying to calculate my calories. This soup looks delish and low in calories. ?
Six ounces
I made this last week when I was sick. It was so unbelievably easy. I don’t think I’ll ever buy canned soup again 🙂
If you double the recipe, do you double the pressure cooking time from 5 to 10 mins? Thanks
No, same Time. It will
Just take a little longer to come to pressure.
I just made this it is very good thank you for posting, I’m new to the instant pot family this is very simple to make and very yummy
