Now we have created a lot of easy toaster oven recipes lately, and this just adds to the list! If you live in an RV, hotel or just don’t want to use your microwave to make these we have the answer for you.

How to Cook Hot Pockets in Toaster Oven

How Long do You Cook a Hot Pocket this way? It will take 15-20 minutes to get it done. You will NOT use the crisping sleeve included inside the box for this method. It will get crispy without it and paper in it risks it touching the heating coils and cause a fire so get rid of it.

  1. While microwaving can sometimes result in soggy or unevenly heated Pocket, a toaster oven delivers a crisp and golden-brown exterior, mimicking the texture of oven baked pastries.
  2. This way provides more even heat distribution compared to microwaves, ensuring that the filling is heated thoroughly without the risk of overcooking or overheating certain areas.
  3. Using a toaster oven allows you to control the level of crispiness by adjusting the cooking time. You can achieve your preferred level of crunchiness.

One common issue with microwaving these favorite snacks is that even with the sleeve you may get a soggy bottom crust. In a toaster oven, the heat circulates around the pastry, helping to maintain a firm and flaky bottom crust.

Cooking a Hot Pocket without a Microwave

How long do you cook a Hot Pocket in the oven for?

You can in fact bake them this way on a sheet pan in a conventional oven if you want to cook a whole bunch all at one time. You just want to ensure it is preheated so they cook evenly and that your food doesn’t overlap. The hot air needs to be able to rotate all the way around to crisp properly.

Can you cook pizza pockets in the oven?

Yes and it doesn’t matter what flavor you have, they all take the same amount of time and you still follow the same step by step instructions.

  1. Preheat the Toaster Oven to 350. Preheating ensures consistent cooking.
  2. Prepare a Baking Sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to prevent sticking and facilitate easy cleanup.
  3. Put them on the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they do not overlap so that in the oven the hot air can properly heat all the way around.
  4. Cooking times vary depending on the type and size of them but typically they are all the same. Typically, it takes around 20-30 minutes for a regular-sized Pocket to become golden and crispy. Follow the instructions on the packaging as a starting point, but use your judgment to achieve your preferred level of crispiness.
  5. Flip and Rotate for an even finish, consider flipping the Hot Pocket halfway through the cooking time and rotating it if necessary.
  6. Check for Doneness meaning it should have a golden-brown crust, and the filling should be steaming hot when it’s ready. Ensure it’s heated through to a safe internal temperature (usually around 165°F.

For this there are directions on the package but we will go over some tips. Always use a microwave safe plate of course. Remove pocket from it’s packaging no matter what cooking instructions you choose. Carefully remove the hot pockets when done with tongs to prevent burning your fingers.

  1. Toaster ovens can vary in their heating patterns and intensities. Keep a close eye on your Hot Pocket, especially the first time you prepare it, to prevent overcooking.
  2. If yours has a rack, place it on the baking sheet. Elevating it slightly can help achieve an evenly crispy texture on all sides.
  3. Allow these to rest for a minute or two after taking it out of the toaster oven. This helps the filling to settle and prevents any accidental burns.
  4. To prevent steam buildup and potential sogginess, consider poking a few holes in the top of the Hot Pocket before baking.

While these are delicious on their own, you can elevate your meal by serving them with a side salad, dipping sauces, or a sprinkling of herbs and grated cheese.

How to Make Homemade Hot Pockets

I have made these from scratch and cooked pockets in the air fryer this way. You could use the toaster oven to get the same results. Use refrigerated rolls or frozen, defrosted dough to roll out for the outsides.

  1. Create your own with defrosted frozen rolls, rolled out adding extra cheese, pepperoni slices, and your favorite toppings before rolling up and baking.
  2. These aren’t just for lunch or dinner either. Enjoy a breakfast version filled with scrambled eggs, cheese, and your choice of bacon, sausage, or veggies.
  3. For dessert, try a sweet variation by stuffing dough with chocolate chips, marshmallows, and a drizzle of caramel sauce. Bake until the pastry is golden and the filling is gooey like our air fryer apple dumplings.
  4. If you wanted smaller portions you can cook just like pizza rolls in air fryer and serve them as finger foods for a party or snack. They’re perfect for dipping in marinara sauce or ranch dressing.

There are many varieties offered at the store, they will all basically need the same timing. Pepperoni pizza is the most popular followed by meatball but you can find others. Lower in fat you can sometimes find Lean Pockets as well as unique flavors like Chicken Cordon Bleu Hot Pockets. We have tried them all and love ’em.

How to Store Hot Pockets

You always need to keep these in the freezer, there is NO need to defrost before cooking. The answer is the same as the one for Should I Thaw Frozen Pizza Before Baking? Absolutely not. These are designed and tested to be baked right out of the freezer, if not you won’t get the ultimate results you want.

Can you reheat a cooked Hot Pocket?

You can, I would use the crisping sleeve in the microwave to do so. Place the Hot Pocket on a microwave-safe plate. Heat it on the medium setting for 1-2 minutes. Cooking times may vary depending on the wattage and size. Check the temperature. If it’s not hot enough, continue heating in 15-30 second intervals.

How do you keep hot pockets warm for lunch?

It is always recommended to cook and eat immediately, otherwise the crust will begin to get soggy. If this isn’t possible you can cook and place inside an insulated lunch bag. You can also use a thermos or insulated food container if you have one that is the right size. Seal the lunch bag securely to trap the heat inside.
