How to Bake Frozen Rolls

You may be weary about these if you have only seen them at the store but never actually tried baking frozen bread dough. It is easier than you think! You can buy them already formed into these little dough balls or in a larger loaf style too. I have used both and it’s been a game changer for us to make all sorts of things.

I have rolled out the larger version to make pizza. These smaller ones can stay in this same shape and baked or cooked in your air fryer. During the holidays think outside of the box to make any shape you like! Last year I rolled out two, twisted together and made it into a circle for these pretty Easter egg bread creations.

How do you make Rhodes rolls rise faster?

The directions on the bag say this will normally take 3-5 hours set on a baking pan at room temperature. For the speed thaw method you would need to create just a tad bit of heat, but not too much, for proofing dough just a bit quicker. The best way to do this is to turn the oven light on, just the light. That is right, that will produce just a tiny bit of heat, just enough.

First set a small shallow bowl on the bottom rack with 1 cup of warm water inside. On the shelf above that set your casserole dish sprayed with non stick spray inside with a dish towel draped over the top, tight so it won’t touch the dough itself and stick.

Check after 15 minutes to see if they’ve doubled in size. If not add 5 minutes and check again. Once doubled you’re ready to bake! Same tip goes for frozen cinnamon rolls too that they make.

What can you make with frozen dinner rolls other than rolls?

You can even slice it once your frozen Rhodes rolls are defrosted and risen. Then you can braid it into a sort of semi-homemade Challah. I mean the possibilities go on and on, from our Rhodes cinnamon rolls recipe to savory creations.

You can make our easy monkey bread with them! Instead of refrigerated rolls these work even better because they aren’t as mushy.

You can tweak this one so many different ways too though. I have made Rhodes monkey bread or cinnamon rolls. OH yes I did, you can make a savory version rolled in poppy seeds and different seasonings….and the list goes on and on.

Do you thaw frozen rolls before baking?

Yes. The “regular” way is to just cover with plastic wrap that has been sprayed with non stick spray which works too if you have the time. You do not want to let them sit much longer once they are twice the size, that would be over-proofing and they won’t be as fluffy. Once you have your proofed Rhodes rolls you are ready to puff these babies up.

OH BUT WAIT……..

You can do something else with these babies too, besides just keeping them plain y’all. You can cut each one into fourths, dunk into melted butter, rolled into cinnamon and sugar and into a bundt pan they go. Wait, keep listening.

If you just want to keep them basic though I won’t fault you for it. We can still be friends. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Sometimes simple is all you have the mindshare or time for, and I get that. The directions to fluff your yeast rolls are simple starting with preheating oven first, always do that.

How to Bake Frozen Rolls in Oven

  • Remove plastic wrap from your baking sheet of thawed rolls and discard.
  • Melt butter and very lightly brush on the top.
  • Bake dough in the oven for 15-20 minutes max (I like 18 better) until very lightly golden brown and middle is no longer sticky.
  • Remove and brush tops again with melted butter, sprinkle with garlic salt if desired.
  • Serve immediately for best results.

I use a round bundt sort of pan for this, and allow my yeast dinner rolls to rise right inside the pan!! Leave some space in between so they can double in size and spray inside too so it doesn’t stick. Cover like the others and sit like you would any of the other cooking methods and then make air fryer Rhodes rolls this way!

How to Reheat Baked Rolls

If you do have any leftovers save them! Not just any way but wrapped in foil or in an airtight bag or container on the counter, not the fridge. When ready to enjoy again you can reheat dinner rolls wrapped in foil in the oven at 350 degrees F for about 5 minutes.

Alternatively just set on a paper towel in the microwave for 45 seconds. Split in half, butter and enjoy once again with homemade honey butter, jam, apple butter or add meat into the center for pulled pork sliders!!

How long will frozen rolls last in the freezer?

Frozen rolls typically last up to 3 months in the freezer if stored properly. After this time, they may begin to lose quality and become prone to freezer burn, which can affect both taste and texture.

How do you defrost bread rolls without getting soggy?

You would want to change out the plastic wrap on the top once. There will be some condensation on it as it thaws so changing out the saran wrap over the top will help prevent frozen rolls from getting a bit soggy and mushy.

How do you make frozen rolls taste like Texas Roadhouse?

It is all about the butter brushed on top as soon as they are pulled out of the oven! Do not over-bake them either, you want them to stay super fluffy so just long enough to get golden brown on the top and the center no longer sticky, no longer.

Equipment

  • 1 baking sheet
  • plastic wrap
  • non stick spray

Ingredients 

  • 12 frozen rolls
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted, optional
  • 1/2 tsp garlic salt, optional

Instructions 

  • Spray baking sheet with non stick cooking spray. Place frozen rolls with space apart on pan, cover with plastic wrap that has had the underside sprayed with non stick spray too to keep from sticking while rising.
  • Put in a place that is room temperature to rise for 3 to 5 hours, or until they double in size. Do not over proof.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Remove plastic wrap and discard. Melt butter and very lightly brush on the top. Bake for 15 – 18 minutes, until very lightly browned and middle is no longer sticky.
  • Remove and brush tops again with melted butter, sprinkle with garlic salt if desired. Serve immediately for best results.
