Spaghetti with sausage can be as spicy as you would like it to be. Made on the stovetop it is a quick meal that is inexpensive and kids love it. Sauce from scratch is best but you can make this with a jar of spaghetti sauce too. (affiliate links present)

You can make this sauce as Crockpot Spaghetti too if you wanted to. Just saute to soften the vegetables just a bit, and then add everything else to the slow cooker. On low this pork sausage link cooked slow all day long will really bring out all the flavors you love. Actually over a longer period of time it will make it a bit spicier overall.

There are many ways of how to make spaghetti sauce spicy such as; adding crushed red pepper flakes, an easy way to add spiciness to your sauce. Start with a pinch and gradually increase to your desired level of heat. Finely chop fresh chili peppers like roasted jalapeño, serranos, habaneros, or Thai bird’s eye chilies sautéd in olive oil work great.

There are countless varieties of sausages available worldwide, each with its own unique flavor profile, ingredients, and preparation methods. Here are some different types you can use depending on what you can find and your flavor preferences.

  1. Italian Sausage comes in two main types—sweet (mild) Italian and spicy. It is typically made from ground pork with various seasonings like fennel, garlic, and red pepper flakes. Served with Little Caesars Cheese Bread is our fave.
  2. Bratwurst is a popular German sausage, bratwurst is made with a mixture of pork, beef, or veal, and is often seasoned with spices like nutmeg, coriander, and white pepper. It’s known for its mild flavor and is often served with sauerkraut and mustard.

Kielbasa is a Polish sausage made from pork, beef, or a mix of both. It is seasoned with garlic and marjoram, giving it a distinctive flavor. Kielbasa is often smoked and used in soups, stews, and as a grilled or pan-fried sausage.

What type of pasta would go well with sausage and peppers?

I mean I have used it all, depending on what is in my pantry and/or on sale. When making this as Lazy One Pot Spaghetti I like to use penne or medium size shells. If you really need traditional then go with the “long ones”, like whatever works y’all. 😉

Andouille is a spicy, smoked sausage originating from Louisiana, USA, andouille is often used in Creole and Cajun cuisine. It’s made from smoked pork and seasoned with garlic, onion, and spices, with a notable smoky flavor.

  1. Merguez is a North African link, particularly popular in countries like Morocco and Tunisia. Typically made from ground lamb or beef and flavored with spices like cumin, coriander, and chili pepper, giving it a spicy kick.
  2. Linguica is a Portuguese type that’s also commonly found in Brazil and parts of the United States. It’s made from pork and seasoned with garlic and paprika, resulting in a flavorful and slightly spicy.
  3. Boudin is a Cajun blend made with pork, rice, and a blend of spices. It’s often stuffed into casings, but boudin blanc is a variety without casings, similar to a rice dressing or stuffing.
  4. Cervelat is a Swiss style made from a mixture of pork and beef, lightly smoked, and flavored with garlic and other spices. It’s a popular ingredient in Swiss dishes and is often grilled.
  5. Frankfurter or Frankfurt they call it, is a popular type of German sausage known for its use in hot dogs. It’s made from finely ground pork or beef and is usually cooked by boiling, frying, or grilling.

How to Make Kielbasa Spaghetti

Cook the spaghetti noodles according to the package instructions in a large pot of salted boiling water until al dente. This is Cook Time for Spaghetti sticks, smaller sizes will take a bit less time. Drain (feel free to keep some pasta water to thin sauce out later) and set aside.

  • In a large skillet or pan, heat the olive oil over in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced sausages and cook until they’re browned on both sides, about 5-6 minutes.
  • Remove the sausages from the pan and set aside. In the same pan, add diced onions and cook until they turn translucent, about 3 minutes.
  • Stir in the minced garlic and diced red bell pepper.
  • Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the peppers begin to soften.
  • Add the tomatoes, tomato sauce, Cajun seasoning, paprika, dried oregano, salt, and pepper to the skillet with the sautéed vegetables.
  • Stir marinara sauce well to combine. Allow the sauce to simmer for 8-10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  • Once the sauce has thickened slightly, add the cooked sausages back into the pan, stirring to combine. Toss in the cooked spaghetti and gently mix until the pasta is well coated with the sauce.
  • Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to let the flavors blend.

Serve the Cajun Sausage Spaghetti hot, garnished with chopped fresh parsley and grated Parmesan cheese with Garlic Bread in Toaster Oven if desired.

Can you cook raw sausage in spaghetti sauce?

Absolutely you can. If you want to make an easy one pot meal, make our sausage spaghetti here. If you start with raw brats or other style of meat you can dunk them right into marinara that has reached a slow boil and cook until they come to temp. Then submerge noodles and boil in sauce until those are tender too and then serve!
