Below we are discussing how to cook pan fried pork steaks, we have talked before about How to Cook Steak in Oven as well. You could do it this way technically except that with the breading you would need to spray generously with olive oil to moisturize. OR leave that off and use those directions, just check internal temp. before removing.

Unlike our Instant Pot Cube Steak and Gravy you will get a really nice crisp on the outsides this way. Using a cast iron skillet or pan over medium high heat you can get that perfect golden brown but keep the middle so tender you can cut it with the side of a fork.

What is cubed steak pork?

It is typically a tougher cut that is scored with a sharp knife on the top to help it become more tender or you can cut steaks into thin slices approximately 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick.
Place a portion of meat between two layers of plastic wrap or parchment on a cutting board.
Using a meat mallet or tenderizing tool, pound the meat evenly to tenderize it starting from the center and working your way outwards.

You could say you’re making chicken fried pork, a bit like chicken fried steak. It gets tender cubed when pounded out. You can use another pan to do this or a meat mallet to get that tender and juicy result.

Recipe for Cubed Pork Steak

  • pork cubed steaks
    • or if not already pounded you can do so with boneless pork chops like we do with our thin pork chops
    • in between two pieces of parchment paper or saran wrap
  • 1 egg
  • 6 tbsp all purpose flour
  • Baking powder
  • 4 tbsp milk
  • Granulated garlic powder or onion powder works
  • 1/4 tsp salt and pepper to taste
  • Coriander
  • Olive oil

And a skillet that is non stick is helpful unless you have a cast iron pan which is my preference. Yes you can cook it a bit more hands off Slow Cooker Cube Steak style but you won’t be able to get those breaded or crispy at all.

This is great served with our Garlic Bread with Roasted Garlic, same as our beef cube steaks. Another fave is serving these on top of a bed of mashed potatoes or just with a tossed salad.

How to Tenderize Steak

If not already done, place Venison Cube Steak or pork steaks between two sheets of plastic wrap or wax paper. Use a meat mallet or the flat side of a heavy skillet to pound them until they are about 1/4 inch thick. Alternatively you can score the top vertically and horizontally with a sharp knife 1/2 of the way thru. This helps tenderize the meat.

If you do not want to bread at all, follow our Pork Steaks in the Oven directions instead with a dry rub.

  • Use 4 tbsp all purpose flour, baking powder, salt, garlic and coriander.
  • Stir. In another bowl, mix 2 tbsp flour, egg and milk. Beat until you get a smooth batter without lumps.

  • Now coat the steak on both sides in all-purpose flour mixture. Heat the frying oil and this is How Long to Cook Cube Steak in Frying Pan.
  • Fry for 5-6 minutes on low heat until golden browned.
  • Using tongs or a spatula, carefully flip the steaks to the other side and continue to fry for another 5 minutes, covering the pan with a lid.
  • Check to ensure the thickest part has reached 145 degrees to be safe to eat.
  • Transfer the tender pork pieces to a napkin to absorb excess oil. Then serve whole or cut into slices.

If you want a really crispy crust you can set the skillet to medium high heat the last minute to really get it overly browned. Jump to recipe for this easy recipe for dinner and let us know what you think!
