Making Ninja Foodi rice is simple really. But if you’re new to making any Ninja Foodi recipes then this will be quite helpful. We make brown and white rice several times a week. Whether we’re serving it plain with butter on top for a snack or with chicken or beef served on top it’s a cheap dish we love.

If you don’t make this on a weekly basis we may not be able to be friends. 😉 Just kidding, it is just on our meal planning often because it was something my mom cooked with dinner almost every single night growing up.

How Long to Cook White Rice in Ninja Foodi

Plain with just a pat of butter on it would be my youngest daughter’s favorite after school snack. She makes it all by herself now that she is a teenager. With long grain it takes 12 minutes total, or 16 minutes for jasmine rice in pressure cooker.

Ninja Foodi Rice Water Ratio

What you need to make rice in your Ninja Foodi pressure cooker and air fryer is just the grains you desire and water or broth. The latter will yield more flavor, or half and half works well too. For brown I typically will do 1/2 of each because without it we think it is a bit bland. The ratio is 2 cups rice: 2.5 water for best results.

You are going to measure our your rice raw and use the cook times as stated below or with links in this post for; brown rice, white rice – I prefer Jasmine or adding flavor like how to make Ninja Foodi Mexican rice. As for the necessary liquid you are typically going to use water but you can also use half water and half broth. You literally need NO accessories to make this

Most of the time we will serve this with Ninja Foodi chili recipe over the top with cheese sprinkled on that.

How do you use Ninja Foodi as a rice cooker?

I will admit that we make white rice in the pressure cooker 90% of the time. My kids prefer that, and I kinda’ do too. It makes the grains so fluffy without any effort on my part, you just throw it right in. You have the choice to either press the rice button which will automatically set the time to 12 minutes or you can press pressure cook and adjust to that timing with the + sign.

Can you add vegetables?

You could but they would need to take 12 minutes meaning that you would need to choose firm varieties such as carrots or potatoes. You don’t want to submerge into the water or the ratio will be off so instead set a trivet in the pot with the veggies on the top. Half potatoes and/or peel and chunk carrots into thirds or so.

Brown Rice in Ninja Foodi

We have perfected pressure cooker brown rice too. I don’t make this quite as often as white is our favorite. I like to offer all 3 versions though for you since it is nice to rotate between them throughout the week. With fish I might choose the wild variety for texture.

It is a versatile side dish, naturally gluten free, and brown rice has fiber in it which we all need. I will share both of these and instructions for them below. The recipe card below is for white long grain rice. I like Jasmine as well and will work for that as well.

Ninja Foodi Rice Recipe

This is how to cook white Ninja Foodi rice (or brown), they are easy to make! Here are tips on how to make the best pressure cooker rice so it's done fluffy every single time. 
Prep: 5 minutes
Cook: 12 minutes
Total: 7 minutes

Equipment

Ingredients 

  • 2 cup white rice, long grain
  • 2.5 cup water, or chicken broth for more flavor
  • 1 pinch salt, can add a pinch when cooking

Instructions 

  • Add 2 cups of white rice into your Ninja Foodi.
  • Then add 2 1/2 cups water or broth into your pot and stir.
  • Put pressure cooker lid on (one that isn’t attached) and put steam valve to sealing.
  • Turn pot on, press pressure, leave on High setting, and adjust timing to 2 or push the rice button if your machine has one.
  • Do a natural release for 10 minutes, fluff and serve!

Follow recipe above but set to 4 minutes with a 10 minute natural release instead.

Brown Rice in Ninja Foodi

Add 2 cups brown rice with 2 1/4 cups water, stir together. Cook with lid that is not attached for 15 minutes with a 5 minute natural release, fluff and serve.

  1. I have to admit I was skeptical when I read only 2 minutes. The rice came out amazing. Do you have any tips for just one cup of rice?

    1. I would use half the amount of water, so if 2 cups rice calls for 2 1/2 cups water, use 1 cup rice and 1 1/4 cup water.

  2. Have tried twice with white rice and came out perfect both times. I followed the recipe exactly as written.

  3. Recipe sounds great. What is the largest amount of rice you can make in one cycle? Can you give me the measurements for that?? Thank you!!!! I have the ninja foodi 8 quart.

    1. I have the 6 and can easily do 2, but I wouldn’t make more than that. You may be able to push it to 3x the amount however I think with that much the timing would be off. I haven’t tried to tell you exactly what you’d need for that large quantity.

  4. Should I soak the rice in water for 15 minutes as I do normally for stove use? Or just wash the rice ?

  5. Found another recipe: 1.5c water to 1c rice, cook on pressure 3 minutes, natural release for 10 minutes (on the Ninja Foodi, leave it on “keep warm” while the 10 minutes passes), then quick release the remaining pressure and serve. I used long-grain white rice, and I rinsed and drained the rice prior to cooking. This came out ever-so-slightly more soft than I typically make it, but not so soft that the rice is mush. Between this recipe and yours, I have both types of rice I want to make! Thank you again!

  6. This recipe left my rice more like rice pudding than rice, what did I do wrong? The foodi came up to pressure first on the pressure setting, then counted down from 12 min. Help!

    1. Are you sure you used the correct measurement of water? I make this all the time and if you follow it exactly for white or brown rice it will come out properly. Note that water amounts for white and brown are different and listed.

    2. Use 1 to 1 if you soak your rice however make sure that it’s not Chinese rice it has plastic rice kernels in it. Japanese rice is best. Even CALROSE is good.

      1. What is the water to rice ratio for Nishiki sushi rice? Very slightly from longer grain white rice such as Jasmine.
