Wondering how long to cook a 10 lb spiral ham? We were too back in the day. It is quick and should be watched to keep it moist. Thinly sliced means the brown sugar maple syrup glaze can seep into every piece but also means it doesn’t take long to bake. (affiliate links present)

How Long to Cook Spiral Ham in the Oven

We are here to share the perfect cook time in the oven and temperature to keep your pork tender, moist and full of flavor. 1.5-2 hours is about perfect for most pre cooked hams. As far as the glaze recipe on the outside there are tons of choices. Many will come with a packet you can use but homemade is always better. You can also pump up the flavor like we did with our Coca Cola Ham with Glaze.

In the past we have made Crockpot Ham Recipe with Pineapple, cooked all day long. If you don’t want to take that much time and/or would like to have a bit of a crisp on the outside with your glaze caramelized all over then this is the way to go. Get ready for your most favorite holiday meal you’ll want to make year after year.

This isn’t something we only cook for special occasions either. I have so many recipes with ham on my site that just one hunk of this pig can yield several meals for the whole week. Day one we enjoy as is with veggies and mashed potatoes but then I will make a batch of Slow Cooker Scalloped Potatoes with Ham the day after. OMG so good.

  • 1 c maple syrup
  • 1/2 c brown sugar
  • 1/4 c dijon mustard
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Cloves ground
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg

For sweetness there are a few things you can use. I like real pure syrup but agave is another choice, sugar free Splenda liquid works for diabetics, as well as using some alcohol like with our Bourbon Glazed Ham. If you did want to use the packet that you get with the meat then you wouldn’t need to bother making this. You do want to warm in a pan or submerge bag in hot water to soften though.

How long to cook a 12 lb spiral ham

It is handy to have a digital meat thermometer on hand to test when it is close to done. Typically you’re looking at 12-15 minutes per pound for spiral sliced ham, fully cooked ham that is. That won’t change whether you have a brown sugar glaze on it or something else. I do recommend some sauce to keep it moist.

Preheat your oven to 325° F or 163° C. In a small saucepan, combine the maple syrup, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, ground cloves, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg. Heat over medium-low heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar is dissolved and the glaze is well combined. Set aside.

  • Place the spiral-cut ham in a roasting pan, flat side down. If it came with a glaze packet, set it aside for later.
  • Brush a generous amount of the prepared 3 Ingredient Ham Glaze of choice over the entire surface of the ham, making sure to get the glaze into the cuts in between the slices.
  • Cover the ham loosely with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 140°F (60°C).
    • or typically 12 – 15 minutes per pound
  • Glazing spiral ham every 30 minutes.
  • During the last 15-20 minutes of baking, remove the foil and brush the ham with additional glaze. This will give the ham a beautiful caramelized finish.
  • Once the glazed ham reaches the desired temperature, remove it from the oven, cover it loosely with foil, and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before carving. Serve with the remaining glaze on the side.

Whether you are going to make Slow Cooker Ham and Beans later or something else you always want to just cut off the pieces you are going to eat and leave the rest in tact. Reason for that is the larger hunks will not dry out as easily as if every inch is exposed to the air or cold of the fridge.

How to Spiral Cut a Ham

Use a sharp carving knife or a serrated knife with a long blade. This will make it easier to create clean, even slices. Place the butt on a cutting board with the flat side facing down. If yours is bone-in or boneless, position it so the slices are facing upwards.

  1. Look for the natural lines or grooves that indicate where the spiral slices have been made. These lines will serve as guides for your cuts.
  2. Insert the knife along one of the spiral lines, about 1 inch from the end. Angle the knife slightly downward so it follows the curve of the ham.
  3. Continue cutting along the spiral line, maintaining a steady pace and pressure. Try to keep the slices as even and uniform as possible. As you cut, the slices should easily separate from the rest of the ham.
  4. Move the knife to the next spiral line and continue cutting until you have sliced the entire thing. If you have a bone in ham, be careful when cutting around it to avoid hitting the bone with the knife.

If you are going to make Air Fryer Ham Sandwiches with it when done then you may want them much thinner than if you were to serve as steaks for a full meal as is.

How to Reheat Slices of Ham

We show you here how to heat Ham Steak in Oven. Cook time will vary depending on how thick they are of course but it is a nice way to add moisture with a bit more mustard sauce so they don’t dry out in the process.

If you were to add it into another dish, like our Pressure Cooker Lentil Soup with Ham then don’t bother heating it first. In the process of the other ingredients cooking the meat will heat up with that.
