Since we were “on a roll” this month making all different kinds of egg rolls I thought cherry cheesecake egg rolls would be amazing. They were a better dessert egg rolls than I had even imagined. You only need 3 ingredients. (affiliate links present)

Cheesecake Egg Rolls Ingredients

  • Egg roll wrappers – refrigerated section in your grocery store
  • 1  can of cherry pie filling
  • 1 tub of marshmallow fluff
  • Block of cream cheese (I used low fat cream cheese this time and it was still amazing)
  • Oil for fried or in a spray if air fried

It’s a faster filling than our cheesecake in muffin tins recipe but both are delicious. This is no bake so it works better in this regard. I will show you below how to wrap that, beyond that you’re just frying them until crispy!! I have had people use their air fryer for these dessert egg rolls but I haven’t tried that myself quite yet.

I made pizza egg rolls the other day for dinner and they were so amazing that it was time for dessert!! I couldn’t believe it had taken me so long to try something different with egg roll wrappers. Dusted with powdered sugar to serve and cooked to a golden brown served warm, these are now made on a regular basis

How to Make Cherry Cheesecake Egg Rolls

  1. Get out a cutting board so you can put everything on it.
  2. Mix your room temperature pkg. of cream cheese with your tub of marshmallow creme and put your cherry pie filling in a bowl so you can begin filling.
  3. You will need a small cup of water too.
  4. Now just put a bit of both fillings in the middle like below photo on your egg roll wrapper.
  5. Then fold the end up and over and the sides in
  6. Roll it over once and put a bit of water at the end
  7. At the end roll it all the way over so the end sticks together and the filling won’t come out

Tips

Tip: Do not overfill them. Just add filling to the middle as you see here. You want room on the ends to fold over so the contents don’t ooze out. For a more detailed instruction on how to roll spring rolls we have this info.

Can you make egg rolls with pie filling?

Yes!! Those wrappers can be filled with all sorts of ingredients. You could use any can of fruit filling you love, I just had this one on hand but apple and blueberry are to die for too. The cream is optional as well, we didn’t add it at all when making air fryer apple egg rolls.

Use the same can to make other goodies with them too like our strawberry bread pudding, you can use cherry pie filling for this one too! There’s a video in the recipe card below showing you how to make these dessert egg rolls and the entire recipe too:

Ideal Oil Temp for Egg Rolls

In order to ensure you will get them golden brown and crispy on the outside without being mushy you need to make sure your oil is hot enough to begin with. A consistent 360-380 is ideal. If you don’t have a thermometer, just drop a little piece of egg roll in and see if it begins to fry immediately but isn’t too hot where it burns fast.

How long does it take to deep fry an egg roll?

You should put each one in for about 1 minute per side or until they are lightly browned. Timing will vary depending on the temperature of your oil and how brown you want the outside to become of course but 2 minutes total is about right. With smaller wrappers like with our air fryer crab rangoon it is closer to 1-1.5 min.

How do you make egg rolls not soggy?

Biggest tip is to ensure your oil is hot enough before adding your rolls. Whether you are making dessert egg rolls like we show you here or for dinner you should heat oil to 350 degrees F. Then gently lower down your pieces and they should immediately fry to a golden brown in 1-2 minutes on each side. Oil that isn’t hot enough will get soaked in and make them soggy vs. crispy.

Should you pre cook egg roll filling?

If you are adding meat into the middle then yes you should precook it for the best results. If making egg roll desserts like we show you here that is not necessary. If you add raw ingredients you will need to cook it longer to get to a safe internal temp and by that time the wrapper may be too brown.

Other pie filling recipes we love

You can even make peanut butter and jelly egg rolls using this same concept.

Ingredients

  • 1 block cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1 tub marshmallow fluff, sometimes called marshmallow creme
  • 1 package egg roll wrappers, homemade or store bought
  • water, to seal ends closed
  • 1 can cherry pie filling, or blueberry pie filling, 21 oz.
  • olive oil spray, only if you're air frying them

Instructions

  • Mix together your room temperature cream cheese and marshmallow fluff until creamy.
  • Lay out 1 egg roll wrapper and add 2 tsp. cream cheese mixture as well as 2 tbsp. pie filling mixture.
  • Roll egg wrapper like a burrito. Folding sides in and rolling from one end to the other with filling wrapped well inside.
  • At end dab water across end of wrapper and fold over to create a “seal”.
  • Heat your oil. Test by putting a fingernail sized piece of egg roll wrapper into oil and if it begins to fry then oil is ready.  (if air frying preheat to 390 for 3 minutes, then cook for 5 minutes at same temp or until crispy)
  • Put cherry cheesecake egg rolls into oil, flip, and put on a paper towel when they are browned. Enjoy

  1. The rolls looks so good! I’m planning on making these soon.

If I want to make these a day (or even two days) in advance, how do I go about doing that? Do I make and freeze if it’s two days ahead? Or if I’m making it one day before, do I fry them and just store in the fridge? Thanks in advance! 🙂

      1. Air frying is basically baking. You would have to adjust temp and cooking time

    1. If you scroll all the way down right before the nutritional information, it tells you.
Preheat air fryer for 3 minutes at 390 degrees. Air fry for 5 minutes or until they are at the right crispness for your taste. Don’t overcrowd the rolls inside the air fryer.

    1. You could just use the cream cheese and not add marshmallow, or leave out if you like.

    1. Typically enough filling for maybe 12 but depends on how stuffed you make them.
