Yes…I’m back again with a new mug dessert recipe! This time it’s a perfectly pink strawberry cake in a mug recipe with just 3 ingredients! This is so easy to do. With this trick you can make chocolate cake in a mug too. We’ve been wild about mug recipes this year. Now we’re all about creating new ones like this! (affiliate links present)

Strawberry Cake with Cake Mix

This is a smaller version of our 2 ingredient strawberry cake. That one was baked in the oven for a crowd but thought I should be able to make an individual serving the way we have done with others, and it worked!

Then we made chocolate chip cookie in a mug and it went crazy on our Facebook page! That one was homemade with flour, sugar and a few other ingredients from the pantry. From scratch is great but a cake mix mug cake is even easier. You can make all different kinds of flavors using a boxed mix too.

Doesn’t this look yummy??!! We’ve experimented a lot with easy mug cake recipe ideas since our first coffee cake in a mug dessert last month. Since my youngest loves strawberry we decided to try that flavor this time.

Then angel food cake in a mug made us thing about tweaking it into this! I mean who doesn’t love a bit of fresh fruit flavors…..

You pop it in the microwave after mixing it with a bit of water for 1 minute and it’s done to perfection! Just as fluffy as if you were to make it in a pan in your oven baked for over half an hour. Yet perfect for one serving and just enough for after dinner or late at night.

Like I said, really any type of cake mix will work when mixing it with angel food cake mix for this dessert in a mug. You will need:

Ingredient Notes

  1. Large coffee mug is necessary or else it will boil over in the microwave. Like you want one that is twice the size of a regular style.
  2. One box angel food cake mix is the base to all of these. You want the box ideally that has the dry egg whites already in the mix. If not, mix it in there before measuiring this out.
  3. 1 box cake mix of your choice but as you can see we used strawberry here. This has all the leavening agents like baking powder and such you will need so nothing else is necessary. As you may expect from there you can swap out for other flavors.
  4. water or really any liquid will work. You could use strawberry soda or Sprite to add a bit more sweetness too, doesn’t matter.

topping ideas

  1. Add a dollop of whipped cream on top or Cool Whip that is just slightly thawed out is our favorite addition to this.
  2. Slice fresh strawberry pieces and sprinkle some on top of that.
  3. You could go with a few mini chocolate chips to add another element to this goodie.

tips

Now all machines are a bit different. Make sure that you microwave on high for the timing to be correct. If yours is not a 1,000 watt then you may need to adjust and microwave for an additional minute to account for the lower heat.

How do you make mug cakes for a crowd?

The measurements for this are really for one serving. You may have a larger family though and don’t want to measure it all out each time and leave the bag open, I get it. To prepare the whole thing and make it easier to make for later do this;

Get out an air tight sealable plastic container. Combine the two boxes together so you can make more later. Empty both the contents of both the box of angel food cake and the other type of regular cake mix you want into it and mix until they’re combined well. Then you have your cake in a mug mix ready to use whenever.

Why is my mug cake chewy?

Typically this issue is due to it sitting too long. When you microwave cake you want to eat it immediately or it will quickly begin to get harder as it cools and have a chewy slightly rubbery texture to it. It is best fresh and hot with Cool Whip on top.

Why do my mug cakes never work?

One reason it may fail is that your ratio of boxed cake mix to water is off. It should be the texture of batter you would normally bake in the oven. Another fail is if you don’t mix cake mix with a fluffier angel food mix it may become too dense for your liking. Try mixing equal parts of these for the ideal fluffy cake.

  1. Is your calorie count for the entire mix ? About how many calories just for 1 serving?

  2. Angel food mix
    Lemon cake mix
    1Tbsp. Water
