This is how to make fluffy Ninja Foodi rice! Once you have this perfected with long grain or Jasmine rice you can make Ninja Foodi wild rice too! Here are tips on how to make the best pressure cooker rice so it’s done fluffy every single time.

Cooked white rice being stirred with a spoon inside a Ninja Foodi rice cooker.

Making Ninja Foodi rice is simple really. But if you’re new to making any Ninja Foodi recipes then this will be quite helpful. We make brown and white rice several times a week. Whether we’re serving it plain with butter on top for a snack or with chicken or beef served on top it’s a cheap dish we love.

If you don’t make this on a weekly basis we may not be able to be friends. 😉 Just kidding, it is just on our meal planning often because it was something my mom cooked with dinner almost every single night growing up.

How Long to Cook White Rice in Ninja Foodi

Plain with just a pat of butter on it would be my youngest daughter’s favorite after school snack. She makes it all by herself now that she is a teenager. With long grain it takes 12 minutes total, or 16 minutes for jasmine rice in pressure cooker.

Ninja Foodi Rice Water Ratio

What you need to make rice in your Ninja Foodi pressure cooker and air fryer is just the grains you desire and water or broth. The latter will yield more flavor, or half and half works well too. For brown I typically will do 1/2 of each because without it we think it is a bit bland. The ratio is 2 cups rice: 2.5 water for best results.

You are going to measure our your rice raw and use the cook times as stated below or with links in this post for; brown rice, white rice – I prefer Jasmine or adding flavor like how to make Ninja Foodi Mexican rice. As for the necessary liquid you are typically going to use water but you can also use half water and half broth. You literally need NO accessories to make this

Most of the time we will serve this with Ninja Foodi chili recipe over the top with cheese sprinkled on that.

How do you use Ninja Foodi as a rice cooker?

I will admit that we make white rice in the pressure cooker 90% of the time. My kids prefer that, and I kinda’ do too. It makes the grains so fluffy without any effort on my part, you just throw it right in. You have the choice to either press the rice button which will automatically set the time to 12 minutes or you can press pressure cook and adjust to that timing with the + sign.

Can you add vegetables?

You could but they would need to take 12 minutes meaning that you would need to choose firm varieties such as carrots or potatoes. You don’t want to submerge into the water or the ratio will be off so instead set a trivet in the pot with the veggies on the top. Half potatoes and/or peel and chunk carrots into thirds or so.

Brown Rice in Ninja Foodi

We have perfected pressure cooker brown rice too. I don’t make this quite as often as white is our favorite. I like to offer all 3 versions though for you since it is nice to rotate between them throughout the week. With fish I might choose the wild variety for texture.

It is a versatile side dish, naturally gluten free, and brown rice has fiber in it which we all need. I will share both of these and instructions for them below. The recipe card below is for white long grain rice. I like Jasmine as well and will work for that as well.

What goes well with rice?

We have a recipe to make Ninja Foodi risotto too if you’d like to try that. Typically that is a side dish to a protein of some sort. Our Ninja Foodi roast recipe was served with white rice or Ninja Foodi sausage

Pressure cooker beef and broccoli is on top a bed of rice or make our pressure cooker spicy honey chicken is amazing too

We put chili on top all of the time too. This is the best rice recipe for pressure cookers. You won’t be disappointed. Note: higher altitudes may require more water to get the same results.

  1. Great post!! So based on your experience, which Foodi should I get? We are family of 4, and I usually cook in large batches to freeze.

    1. If I cut the amount of rice in half, do I still cook it for 2 minutes or do I reduce the cooking time?

    2. I am a family of five. I have the ninja foodi xl 8qt. Better to have more than not enough!!

  2. Aloha from Hawaii jAsmine…I purchased my rice that already comes pre-mixed with white and brown. We call it “hapa” rice (Hawaiian term mixed of heritage; in this case, mixed of white and brown rice). Would you think I should still do equal parts (1:1) or add a 1/4 more water since there’s brown rice in it? How long should I cook this for? Looking forward to getting your opinion. Mahalo

  3. If I cut the amount of rice in half, do I still cook it for 2 minutes or do I reduce the cooking time?

  4. I just want to clarify you pressure cook brown rice for 15 minutes and then natural release pressure for 5 min.?

  5. I’m interested in trying this but we mostly buy instant rice. Does it matter if you use long-grain rice vs instant?

  6. Thank you so much, this is the first time my rice came out perfect! Also, thank you for put instructions for both white and brown rice. I printed your recipe out and added it to our family favorites cookbook binder.

      1. Turn pot on, press pressure, leave on High setting, and adjust timing to 2 minutes for white rice or 15 minutes for brown rice.
If making white rice do a natural release for 10 minutes, then quick release when done.
        What do
Mean by natural real ease 10 mintutes then quick real ease when done. It is bit confusing

  7. Hi there,

I tried this today and rice was cooked perfect, but the rice did seem somewhat sticky. Is this usual?

    Thank you.

    1. Well different types of rice have different textures. If you like a drier variety you might prefer Arborio

    2. Different types or rice can be very starchy. Try putting the rice in a mesh strainer and rinsing it until the water runs clear.

  8. It would be really nice to have a search box. Trying to find recipes on this site is ridiculous.

    1. There is one. On mobile it’s right at the top. On desktop it’s on the right. Not hidden.

  9. Hi, Ninja Foodie learner here. Had my NF delivered last week. I have the NFMax as I have quite a large family so any recipes that can be doubled will be a god send. I have tried the full roast chicken which turned out great and I have air fried chicken thighs plus cooked a pizza. All turned out really well. Going to give the rice a go tomorrow. I’m really looking forward to trying some of your recipes, thanks for taking the time to post them.

    1. Hi Dee
I am from Scotland as well and just bought the Ninja Foodi. Hoping I can find some go to recipes to make this purchase worthwhile.
