The first one we will share using this popular main ingredient is our Pillsbury Cinnamon Pull Apart Bread. I know, sounds amazing right? Somewhat similar in flavor to this one but baked in a loaf pan instead. Many times diced apples are included into the layers too which is incredible. You could use chocolate chips instead too.

Now let’s talk about the cooler months. In the Fall around Thanksgiving or Christmas time we all want spiced flavors right? To do that I integrate pumpkin puree and a brown sugar butter mixture poured over the top. OH yes I did with this Caramel Pumpkin Monkey Bread. Killer doesn’t even begin to describe this one.

Diced or dried fruits like apples, raisins or dried cranberries are great too. Pillsbury Apple Monkey Bread uses fresh Granny Smiths for texture and give it a caramel like flavor with each and every bite. One great thing about using these rolls other than saving time is the frosting is included!! Don’t throw those babies away.

What you need to make the basics are 3 ingredients. Seriously, that is it. Now there is another way to get this done but it is much more time consuming. You can combine cinnamon and more sugar to dip and coat each cut piece in and layer it from there. The sugar will dissolve and create the sticky sweet, or just pour butter and sugar over the top of the whole thing.

  • Cans of cinnamon rolls refrigerated or thawed from frozen for 30 minutes and quartered
  • Melted butter
  • Brown sugar

Once you have the basics down you can add different toppings if you like beyond the frosting packet. Like with our Cherry Cheesecake Monkey Bread I poured some pie filling and marshmallow creme + cream cheese piping as well. I know, sweet, but a kid fave.

Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls Recipes

How to Bake Walmart Cinnamon Rolls

There are many store bought cinnamon rolls out there. Pillsbury is the name brand but stores typically have their own too. I will say that there is a difference, in size and quality if you ask me. The refrigerated cinnamon roll dough has more oomph with one that is a bit more expensive. Just spend the extra $, it’s worth it. You can make all our versions with butter or cinnamon rolls with heavy cream with either.

How can you make canned cinnamon rolls better?

OH we have so many ideas for you here. In the recipe card below is pull apart bread but along the way the links will lead you to other recipe hacks. If you’re going to add fruit like our Cinnamon Roll Peach Cobbler, choose frozen as they will defrost as it bakes.

  • Cut each cinnamon roll dough piece into 4 pieces.
    • set aside cream cheese frosting to use later
  • Melt butter in a cup and stir in brown sugar (and spices if wanted).
    • some use half cup of heavy whipping cream with 1/2 c. butter for the Viral TikTok cinnamon rolls recipe version
  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. (optional you can sprinkle crushed nuts first into bottom of bundt pan that has been sprayed with non stick spray – nuts will end up on top when done)
  • Stack a layer of sliced roll pieces into well sprayed bundt pan
  • Pour 1/3 of the butter mixture on top. Add another 1/3 of your cut rolls and continue pouring 1/3 of the butter mix on that. Finish with a final layer of dough and remaining butter mix on top.
  • Bake for 35 minutes or until the dough is fully cooked in middle and the top is starting to brown.
  • Remove and let cool for 10 minutes on a cooling rack.

Place a large plate on top and use pot holders to hold sides of pan and flip over. Lift off pan, can drizzle frosting that came in rolls on top of the whole thing, or whisk together powdered sugar, vanilla extract and a bit of milk. Then pull apart to enjoy.

How to Open Cinnamon Rolls

Most canned cinnamon rolls come in a cylindrical can with a pull-tab or a pop-open cardboard container. Look for a label or instructions that indicate where to open the can. It will be labeled and usually a triangular piece in the corner near the rim of the silver end.

  1. If there’s a pull-tab, gently pull it in the direction indicated on the label. If it’s a cardboard container, locate the seam where it can be opened. Use a butter knife or your fingers to gently pry it open.
  2. Once the can or container is open, carefully unroll the pre-made cinnamon rolls one by one, keeping them intact. They are typically tightly wound together.
  3. Set the packet of frosting aside to use once they are baked if you’d like.

If you don’t want to cut them up for pull apart style you can unwrap to a long strip and twist like we did with our Bunny Bread Recipe, so fun.

Below are step by step instructions for this fun cinnamon roll hack you’ll love with a squirt of whipped cream on every bite. Our favorite breakfast recipe is you don’t have time for homemade cinnamon rolls but want that sticky sweet treat still. Cinnamon Roll Pie Crust just uses the rolls themselves.

What is the best way to cut cinnamon rolls?

Use a pizza cutter!! It is the best way to do this fast and it won’t stick as much as if you use a knife. Just slide it across, turn and then across again for 4ths or again for 6 pieces. You can glide it up twice and across twice for 8ths but that is rather small, I like 4 equal pieces per biscuit myself.

How do you save leftover refrigerated cinnamon rolls?

If you don’t want to bake all of them you can save and bake the next day but I wouldn’t wait longer than that. Keep in mind that the texture will change a bit but if you store in an airtight freezer bag zipped closed with a small piece of parchment paper in between them so they won’t stick you’ll have the best result.
