We have used refrigerated dough to make a Biscuit Donuts recipe but this time we are starting from scratch with these biscuit donut holes. Rolled in powdered sugar and cinnamon and sugar on the outside, homemade is the way to go.

Now when these are done you could go a step further and squeeze a filling into the center too!! They are rather dense with this dough so not a lot will fit but Lemon Filled Donuts are amazing in our house. The trick to making any good dough is cold, frozen butter that has been shredded as you see here.

You won’t get fluffy biscuits as you would baked in the oven since you are submerging them in oil but it still helps to get the steps right each and every time. The less you handle it the lighter it will be, period, no matter what you are making. Just remember that little baking hack. 😉

Bisquick Donut Holes

To make this as an easy Bisquick recipe this is what you need to make a quick and easy doughnut dough to use. If you wanted to make them larger with a hole in the center it would just take more work. You’d need to roll out, slice into thick strips, wrap into circles and then dunk to fry that way.

  1. 1 1/2 cup Bisquick mix
  2. 1/2 cup milk

And then the toppings are endless really. I mean for Pumpkin Donuts you could make a simple glaze with powdered sugar, a bit of puree and just a tad of milk to thin to the thickness you wanted. Lay on a cooling rack and pour over the top.

What oil is best for frying doughnuts?

Vegetable oil is best because it has little to no flavor to it. If you use something like olive it has a taste to it and you wouldn’t want your sweet dessert to absorb that. Instead choose vegetable or canola so your glaze will shine thru.

What temperature should your oil be to fry donuts?

Right around 370 degrees F is perfect! Give or take 5-10 degrees lower or higher works but you don’t want it to be too cool or the dough will absorb it. If it is too hot then the outside will get too brown before the inside cooks to a fluffy texture. You want right between for an even fry.

Now if you wanted to air fry them we have directions for that method here. Air fryer donuts is a fun at home recipe without any oil whatsoever. Just spray the air fryer basket so they don’t stick and use biscuit or homemade donut dough.

  • 2.5 c all purpose flour
  • Milk
  • 6 tbsp butter
  • Baking powder
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • Salt
  • Powdered sugar
  • 1/2-3/4 c cinnamon and sugar mixture
  • And you will need vegetable oil for frying

What is the quickest and tastiest donut recipe?

If you use canned biscuits that would be the fastest way to make  Powdered Sugar Donuts or sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. Just push a hole in the center and fry to a golden brown.

Donut Biscuits

How to Make Donuts with Biscuit Dough

These are a delightful treat, and there are numerous toppings and glazes you can use to enhance their flavor and appearance. You can roll warm in granulated or powdered sugar for a simple and sweet finish. You can also add a touch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the sugar for extra flavor.

  1. Glazes add a sweet and shiny coating to your donuts. Common glaze flavors include vanilla, chocolate, maple, and lemon. Here’s how to make a basic glaze:
    • Combine powdered sugar with a small amount of liquid (milk, water, or citrus juice) until you achieve the desired consistency.
    • Add flavorings like vanilla extract, cocoa powder, or citrus zest for a unique twist.
  2. Dip into a rich and creamy chocolate ganache for a decadent treat. You can also drizzle it over the top for a more decorative effect.
  3. Combine granulated sugar with ground cinnamon and roll your freshly fried balls in this mixture. It’s reminiscent of churros and provides a warm, spicy sweetness.
  4. Top with a creamy and tangy cream cheese frosting. Add a hint of vanilla or lemon zest for extra flavor.
  5. Fill with homemade Instant Pot jam for a burst of fruity goodness. Raspberry, strawberry, and apricot are popular choices.
  6. Spread Nutella or peanut butter on the top of your donuts for a rich and nutty flavor. You can also add sliced bananas or strawberries for a delightful twist.
  7. Dollop homemade whipped cream on your donuts for a light and airy topping. Consider adding a drizzle of chocolate or caramel sauce for extra indulgence.
  8. Sprinkle colorful jimmies, nonpareils, or decorative sprinkles over your glaze or frosting for a fun and festive appearance.

Add a crunchy element by sprinkling chopped nuts (such as almonds, pecans, or walnuts) on top of your glaze or frosting. Toasted or untoasted shredded coconut provides a sweet, tropical flavor and pleasant texture. Dust your donuts with powdered cocoa or matcha powder for a sophisticated and flavorful finish.

Grate lemon, orange, or lime zest over your glaze or frosting to infuse your donuts with a refreshing citrus aroma.

Use cold butter, grate with grater. In a bowl mix dry ingredients together, add shreds of cold butter and use a pastry cutter to incorporate into a crumbly mixture.

  • Pour in milk and mix just until incorporated, no longer.
  • Pull apart enough to make a small ball of dough, roll lightly in palms.
  • Heat a pot of oil, just enough for them to submerge.
  • When it reaches 350 degrees gently add a few and fry until the outside is golden brown and insides are no longer sticky.
  • Remove with slotted spoon and set on a few paper towels set on a plate to absorb excess oil.
  • Pour powdered sugar in one shallow dish and cinnamon and sugar in another.
  • While warm roll each one in both to coat to make sweet and enjoy warm.

Feel free to mix and match any of the toppings above to create your own unique combinations. The possibilities are endless, and experimenting with different flavors and textures can result in mouthwatering homemade donuts holes with biscuit dough that suit your personal taste preferences.
