Ninja Foodi Beef Ribs

You can use any brand of electric pressure cooker you have at home. Instant Pot is most popular but if you use these instructions to make Ninja Foodi Ribs you can crisp the outside at the end to get it a bit caramelized too! Use the lid that is not attached to begin with though.

How Long to Cook Beef Ribs in Instant Pot

In total if you need to take into account the time to reach pressure and naturally release the pressure at the end it is about 1 hour 15 minutes or so. Not bad since if you were to cook them in the oven to this tender it would take you 3+ hours. These have a lot more flavor too as the pressure pushes the flavors right into the meat!

Ingredients for cooking: beef ribs, chopped onions, broth, tomato paste, minced garlic, spices, and oil on a table—perfect for a savory pressure cooker recipe.

Ingredient Notes

We are talking all about Beef ribs, short rib bone-in or if you would want to cut a regular rack of beef back ribs, cut into 2 ribs each stacked with the bones vertical in the pot.

You want to season to your liking but at least with some salt and pepper. It is important to saute the meat with a bit of oil to lock in the juices.

Cooking Ribs in Sauce

We have used other sauces other than bbq sauce to cook with right out of the jar instead of this one like our Instant Pot Teriyaki Ribs. If you choose to do the same you would want 1.5 cups with a type that is on the thinner side and not honey based as that may trigger the burn notification.

Can you pressure cook ribs in red wine?

Sure, go for it but personally I would use half broth and half wine or the flavor would be too strong. To each their own though and yes you basically can use any type of liquid you would like to essentially boil / steam them until the meat pulls away and starts to fall off the bone!

Tender beef ribs simmer in a rich red sauce inside a stainless steel pot, infusing each bite with mouthwatering flavor.

If you make lots of Instant Pot recipes then of course you have one of those, Crockpot Express, making Ninja Foodi beef ribs or Mealthy works too. As long as it is electric and plugs in then the cook time is appropriate.

If you wanted to just steam without a real sauce just use the broth without any seasonings. Then when done you can lift them out and broil for a few minutes with some bbq sauce on the top to caramelize or throw ribs in air fryer to do the same.

Boneless Beef Ribs in Instant Pot

We used bone in but these are essentially done the same way. Beef takes a bit longer than let’s say our Country Style Pork Ribs Instant Pot because the protein has more connective tissues that need to break down, but you’d just add a few minutes to the directions linked above.

Cooked oxtail in a pot with rich, red broth, hinting at the tenderness achieved by using a pressure cooker. Four pieces are visible alongside aromatic spices and herbs.

How to Thicken the Sauce

If you want to thicken the bbq sauce you can whisk 1 tbsp cornstarch with some of the hot sauce until smooth. Once sauce is bubbling and hot, carefully stir in a cornstarch slurry made with a and bubble until it is as thick as you’d like it to be. Remember that as it sits and cools it will thicken as well so go easy on how much you add.

This is much faster than cooking Beef Ribs in Oven at 275 but you literally get the same fabulous outcome that melts in your mouth. Serve with your favorite side dishes and enjoy. Jump to recipe to print or follow entirely.

FAQ

Should you pressure cook beef ribs before grilling?

It is optional but a terrific step to get them to fall-apart tender. Pressure cooking breaks down tough connective tissues quickly, reducing overall cooking time since you only need to grill them for caramelization and smoky flavor when done. Just pressure cook the ribs for 15-20 minutes (depending on thickness), then finish on the grill with a nice sear and sauce.

What happens if you pressure cook ribs too long?

Overcooking ribs breaks down too much collagen and connective tissue, making the meat overly soft and lacking the desired bite. Instead of tender and juicy, the texture becomes mushy.

Do you have to add liquid to cook ribs in pressure cooker?

Yes, you will want at least 1 cup of liquid. You can use just about anything though as long as it is not too thick (like honey bbq sauce isn’t recommended). Beef broth is most common with seasonings but teriyaki sauce or half broth and half wine works too.
