Fresh apple bundt cake is wonderful. It is a passed down recipe from generations that was made during all the special occasions, and holidays. A bit denser and similar to Grandmas fruitcake, we will show you how to make this moist and delicious to serve with coffee in the morning. (post may contain affiliate links present)

Fresh Apple Cake Recipe

If you love combining a few flavors, adding crushed nuts is a great choice. I mean we have even added another flavor entirely like pumpkin which we’ll share later, and easier versions like apple spice dump cake but from scratch is best. You can of course leave the nuts out entirely if there is an allergy or you don’t like any crunch in your cake but an option for sure.

You can certainly bake this in a large loaf pan instead but really this one makes it so much prettier if you ask me. Just the shape brings it from ohhhh to OMG status. Especially if you are serving this for a special occasion it is an easy way to jazz things up with just the shape of the pan itself. Decide for yourself. This is how long to bake a cake in different shapes.

Dairy Free Apple Cake

Now if you wanted to make this in a loaf like our pumpkin apple bread go right ahead. Bake time is about the same since it is thicker in the center, and this has a hole in the center. As far as the fruit there are differences in each type when it comes to their texture and flavor.

What apples are best for cake

  1. Flavor
    • I like Fuji for this Apple Slices Recipe. Known for their sweetness, makes them ideal for eating fresh or adding to salads. Examples include Honeycrisp, Gala, and Red Delicious.
    • Tart: Tart apples are more acidic and have a tangy flavor. They are excellent for baking and cooking. Popular tart apple varieties include Granny Smith, Braeburn, and Pink Lady (Cripps Pink).
    • Some have a balanced flavor profile, offering a mix of sweetness and tartness. Examples include Jonagold, McIntosh, and Ambrosia.
  2. Texture
    • Crisp: Crisp apples have a firm and crunchy texture, making them perfect for snacking. Honeycrisp and Fuji are well-known for their crispness.
    • Tender: Some have a softer and juicier texture, making them great for applesauce or baking. McIntosh and Cortland fall into this category.
  3. Color
    • Red: Red are visually appealing and come in various shades, from bright red to deep crimson. Examples include Red Delicious, Fuji, and Gala.
    • Green: These are often tart and have a fresh, zesty flavor. Granny Smith apples are the most famous green apple variety.
    • Yellow are milder in taste and can have a slightly sweet or balanced flavor. Golden Delicious is a popular yellow apple.

Remember that flavors and textures can vary depending on factors such as the time of harvest and growing conditions too. Experimenting with different varieties can lead to different outcomes, so don’t hesitate to try different types, and in different forms. A bundt is pretty but smaller like Baked Apple Fritters in a muffin tin is great too.

Apple Bundt Cake Recipe

Bundt cake pan used here. Grease and flour lightly so it slides out of the baking pan nicely in one piece and stays nice and pretty.

Ingredients

  • All purpose flour is the base for your dry ingredients
  • eggs should be added at room temperature
  • Sugar, granulated to sweeten
  • 1 tsp baking soda allows it to rise to fluffy
  • 3/4 tsp salt will actually enhance the sweetness
  • Cinnamon will give it that Fall flavor
  • Nutmeg will too
  • Vegetable oil is best, or could use applesauce as an alternative
  • Apples peeled, diced
  • Vanilla extract or almond works
  • 1/2 c walnuts chopped, for apple walnut cake, optional

Glaze

  • 1/3 c granulated sugar
  • 1/2 c milk or dairy free milk alternative
  • 6 tbsp room temperature butter
  • 1 tbsp all purpose flour

Toppings

The topping are up to you but go on once baked, not on top of raw cake batter. If you wanted something really easy you could drizzle caramel sundae topping and leave it at that. We have another listed below you can make too that is more from scratch.

  • Prepare the glaze – mix milk, white or brown sugar and butter in a saucepan. Stir until sugar and butter are completely dissolved. Add flour and stir continuously with a spatula to break up any lumps. Set aside for 5-6 minutes to cool and thicken.
  • Apply 1/3 of the glaze on the cake immediately after baking. After 15 minutes, turn it over onto a plate or onto a wire rack. Drizzle 1/3 glaze over the now top of the bundt.
  • Leave the remaining 1/3 to be drizzled on to each piece when served.

Substitutions

Frosting out of a tub can be warmed and poured over the top of your Old Fashioned Fresh Apple Cake Recipe or just use a dollop of whipped cream for a super easy apple dessert cake topping.

If you are lactose intolerant and need alternatives I have done this for my husband myself. When making this and our banana bread bundt cake I use vegan plant based butter that works great. Almond, cashew or even coconut milk work just fine and beyond that you’re good to go!

What can we do with leftover cake?

Crumble the leftovers into fine crumbs and mix it with frosting to form a dough-like consistency. Roll the mixture into bite-sized balls and insert a lollipop stick into each one. Dip the cake pops into melted chocolate or candy melts and decorate them with sprinkles, nuts, or coconut flakes.

Layer cubes of leftover cake with whipped cream, fresh fruits, and custard or pudding to create a delicious trifle. Repeat the layers until you fill a glass bowl, and then refrigerate for a few hours before serving.

Sprinkle the cake crumbs over ice cream, yogurt, or oatmeal with apple recipe for a delightful and sweet crunch.

Line a springform pan with plastic wrap, then press the leftover cake crumbs into the bottom to form a crust. Add a layer of softened ice cream or sorbet on top, followed by another layer to make an ice cream pie.

Blend chunks of leftover cake with ice cream, milk, and your favorite flavorings to create a delicious cake-flavored milkshake. Cut the leftover cake into cubes and use it in place of bread to make a unique and decadent bread pudding with raisin bread.

    Instructions

    • Preheat the oven to 325 F. Mix all dry ingredients in a bowl. Add eggs, vanilla, vegetable oil. Mix everything thoroughly. It is easier to use a mixer to get the batter smooth.
    • Add chopped apples and nuts, fold everything together gently. Transfer the cake dough to the bundt pan. If the baking dish is silicone, you do not need to grease it. If the form is metal, grease it with butter and sprinkle it with flour.
    • Tap the bundt pan on the table a few times to get rid of excess air bubbles. Cover pan with foil. Put the pan in the oven.
    • For the first 30 minutes of baking, it should stay covered with foil so that the cake does not become too brown. Then remove the foil and bake another 25-30 minutes without foil.
    • Readiness can be checked with a toothpick, it should come out clean with a few moist crumbs stuck to it.
    • Prepare the glaze – mix milk, sugar and butter in a saucepan.
