How to make salmon spicy

When making the Salmon Dry Rub Recipe you can adjust this part easily to be sweeter or hotter than you’d like, that’s the first idea. What we have listed here is medium I would say. The mixture in the recipe card below is spicy. Secondly a drizzle of hot honey on top is the way to go!

We show you here how to make it as is. It is great served with a side of rice and/or vegetables as a really low carb meal that is packed with lots of flavor. Another fun way to make this is to prep the fish and make TikTok Salmon Sushi Cups with it. Then drizzle the honey over the top when done.

How to Cook Hot Honey Salmon in Air Fryer

You would want to follow our Salmon in the Air Fryer Dry Rub recipe first. If you want a really intense heat drizzle spicy honey on for the last minute (heat will make it hotter) or pour some on when done.

Copycat Mike’s Hot Honey Salmon

There are several varieties of this popular pink fish. There is sockeye, farm raised, pink, atlantic, and this is How to Cook Coho Salmon too. Most have the same cook time and vary slightly when it comes to color, texture and flavor. Choose the one you prefer to start with.

Ingredients

  • 4 pieces salmon fillets in the same size so they bake evenly
  • 2 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp ginger minced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or melted butter could be used
  • Brown sugar
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1/3 tsp paprika
  • Granulated garlic or garlic powder
  • Coriander
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • Frank’s hot sauce, firecracker sauce, cayenne pepper or use red pepper flakes, depending on how hot you want it
  • 2-3 tbsp spicy honey, hot honey to use at the end

There are many ways to tweak this just like all of our other creations of course. Want to go all the way, with a strip of pork surrounding it? Make this but as Bacon Wrapped Salmon before you put them into the oven or cast iron skillet.

Want to serve this cold? Here is How to Cure Salmon and then slice thin and when guests come over have the bottle on the side to drizzle a bit on right before they bite into it on a piece of bruschetta.

How to Make Salmon Bowls

If you aren’t too sure about the rub we have here paired with the sweet heat you could make our Herb Crusted Salmon, that has a lot of flavor too. Make some rice in your cooker before you start on this because that will likely take longer to get fluffy. Then move on to baking the fish, flake on top of your grains, and drizzle spicy honey all over the top before serving.

Hot Honey Salmon in Oven

  • Preheat the oven to 360 F. If you want more crisp bake salmon at 400 for 2 min. less.
  • Mix all the ingredients for the sauce in a bowl.
  • Place the salmon pieces in a baking dish and spread 1/2 the sauce over the top.
  • Cover the baking dish with saran wrap or put salmon in an airtight container with a lid and leave for 15 minutes to marinate the salmon so the flavors become more intense. Feel free to skip or leave a bit longer for more sweet and spicy intensity.
  • Heat a frying pan and place the salmon, skin side up, fry for 3-4 minutes over medium heat.
  • Then place the salmon in a baking dish with skin side down and spread the remaining sauce over the top.

Bake for another 10-13 minutes or until it becomes flaky. Remove, drizzle hot honey over the top and serve.

Can I use frozen salmon?

We do show and explain to you here how to cook frozen salmon but in this case you wouldn’t be able to apply the seasonings first as they wouldn’t stick. Instead you could sprinkle some on top halfway thru, and still drizzle the hot honey at that time and at the end.

Hot Honey Salmon in Toaster Oven

If you are living in tight quarters you may need Salmon Toaster Oven instructions instead. Works the same except that note the top may get more browned with the seasonings on top since it is so much closer to the coils in this case.

Slow Cooker Hot Honey Salmon

In the case that you choose to make Crockpot Salmon this way you could still add the rub. Drizzle Mike’s Hot Honey on top when done or if you wanted to crisp the top set on a baking sheet at the end after adding and broil for 2 minutes for a golden brown. What do you put Mike’s Hot Honey on?

Drizzle some on baked salmon with dry rub like we did here!! The best way to serve it hot this way, or baked, cooled and make salmon salad with it mixed into your favorite dressing to add a bit of spicy heat to your fish. We love it tossed into roasted vegetables too as a healthy side dish. A quick and easy way to add flavor to fish, chicken or beef.
