How to Make Egg White Tortillas

These are terrific to use in the morning to make a wrap, and the best way of How to Cook Egg Whites. Fill with egg, cheese and some crumbled bacon for a low carb hearty meal you can enjoy on the go. They are more delicate than other varieties so I don’t know if I would necessarily recommend using to make

That is right, think outside of the box y’all!! You could fill it with pie filling and marshmallow cream cheese mixture like we did with our cherry cheesecake egg rolls and voila! For this it is almost like a crepe in a sense as far as the texture and and light flavor goes. If you are looking for a copycat Egglife wrap this is it!

White Tortilla

Copycat Egglife Egg White Tortilla Wrap

If you have ever made homemade flour tortillas at home you would be familiar with the batter texture for those. This is a lot thinner. It is more like a thin pancake or crepe batter if you have ever made those before. Biggest difference between cooking the two is how delicate this one is vs. the other and the need for a non stick surface.

Even if yours has Teflon I would still recommend spraying it a bit with oil. You don’t want it to stick at all once poured in or you won’t be able to lift it to flip and brown on both sides. Using a rubber large spatula is better than a plastic or metal variety so it doesn’t snag on the end and rip, just a tip. You just need to blend together until smooth;

Ingredients

  • Egg whites separated or use 1/2 cup from a container of liquid egg whites
  • 1/8 teaspoon of Xanthan gum is gluten free, keto friendly and a great thickener
    • 4 tsp. of arrowroot four
    • 4 tsp. cornstarch
      • fine almond flour could be substituted
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Pepper

Seasonings are up to you and you could make them on the sweeter side if for dessert. For that I may add a sprinkle of cinnamon and sugar instead of salt and black pepper. To make ground beef egg rolls I might add garlic powder depending on what other fillings I am adding inside.

Egg White Tortilla Wrap

Egg White Wrap Recipe no Flour

You may not have thought about using a tortilla to fill with cabbage and such but why not really?? I mean they are basically like homemade egg roll wrappers in a sense and still a mode to hold fillings is all. Instead of being able to seal the end though you may need to use a toothpick instead to be more of a small burrito in essence.

  • Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Spray with cooking oil.
  • In a blender, add egg whites, xanthan gum, salt and pepper blend until fluffy.
  • Pour 1/3 cup mixture into the preheated non-stick skillet.
  • Coat the bottom of the skillet with an even thin layer. Spread with a rubber spatula or just move the pan side to side until bottom is coated.
  • Cook until firmed and lightly browned 2-3 minutes, then put spatula under the egg and carefully flip to the other side for another 1-2 minutes just until lightly browned.
  • If making a few put a piece of parchment paper in between the egg white wraps so they don’t stick together

Then make into a dessert, dinner or breakfast wrap as you would like. Roll the wrap around the fillings just as you would a burrito with the ends folded in and the middle rolled until sealed shut.

Egg White Tortilla Wrap Fillings

Now as far as what you could fill these sandwich wraps with, the options are endless. The most obvious would be to make burritos out of them with cheese and refried beans is my kids’ favorite. You can fill the wrap with healthier with chicken and rice or make one for breakfast.

Air fryer breakfast burritos filled with eggs, bacon and even bagged hashbrowns are the bomb. Wrapped as is is delish but you can crisp the outsides under high heat in a few minutes. A great idea if you have a Cosori or foodi for some added texture. Slice some bananas with Cool whip and make a simple sweet treat.

Tortilla with Egg Whites

How do You Separate an Egg?

If you have never separated the whites from the yolk it is quite simple. You don’t need to buy anything online, all you need is the egg shell or your hands. To use your hands have a bowl underneath. Hold one hand over the top. Crack the egg with the other and put inside hand over bowl. Open your fingers slightly to allow whites to fall into the bowl. Only the yolk should be in your palm to discard or use for something else.

  1. Start with a clean, dry egg and gather two bowls: one for the egg whites and one for the egg yolks.
  2. Crack the egg on a flat surface, such as a countertop or the rim of a bowl. Crack it evenly and avoid getting shell pieces in the egg.
  3. Hold the cracked egg over one of the bowls, with the eggshell halves on either side of your hand. Gently open the egg, allowing the egg white to flow out while keeping the yolk intact in one half of the shell.
  4. Transfer the yolk back and forth between the eggshell halves, allowing the egg white to drip into the bowl beneath. Be careful not to break the yolk during this process.
  5. Once most of the egg white has dripped into the bowl, transfer the yolk to the other bowl. You can do this by gently tipping the yolk into your cupped hand, letting the remaining egg white fall through your fingers, and then sliding the yolk into the second bowl.
  6. Repeat the process with the remaining eggs, separating the whites from the yolks.

Note: It’s important to separate the eggs one at a time. This way, if you accidentally break a yolk or get some shell in one egg, it won’t contaminate the other eggs. Separating eggs can take a bit of practice, so don’t worry if you don’t get it perfect the first time. With a little patience, you’ll become more skilled at it.

How to Make Tortilla with Egg Whites

I have yet to try this with fine coconut flour or oat flour. I would imagine you could use that instead of the almond type explained and substituted below. If you give those a whirl and they work well let me know below so others will know what to expect. Here are a few questions you might have before getting started;

Are egg white wraps healthy?

Yes! Egg white tortillas have a lot less calories than traditional flour styles and higher in protein. Using xanthan gum like we did here makes them gluten free as well so everyone can enjoy them. Almost fat free at less than 1g it is a great way to make a burrito in a healthier manner.

Do egg wraps have carbs?

Egglife wraps have 0 carbs. If you make them yourself with just egg whites no flour style they would be too. We have instructions for that method here. If you add a bit of fine almond flour or xanthan gum to firm it up a bit you will add about 4 carbs per serving.

To make a gluten-free egg white tortilla with NO add ins you’ll need the following ingredients below. Use the same instructions whipping them together in a blender until frothy. These will have zero carbs but just much more delicate since there is no binder in them.

  • 4 egg whites
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooking spray or oil for greasing the pan

Ingredients

  • 4 egg whites

  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp pepper

Instructions

  • In a blender, add egg whites, xanthan gum, salt and pepper blend until fluffy. Pour 1/3 cup mixture into the preheated non-stick skillet.
  • Coat the bottom of the skillet with an even thin layer by moving the pan around so it coats the bottom. Cook until firmed and lightly browned 2-3 minutes, then flip to the other side for another 1-2 minutes.
  • * 4 teaspoon of arrowroot four or cornstarch or 4 tablespoons of fine almond flour if you don't want to use xanthan gum
  • * You can leave the binders out and just use egg whites with a bit of salt and pepper to make these with 0 carbs. Use same instructions to blend until frothy just be more careful when flipping as they will be very delicate and may rip.
