What are Inside Spring Rolls?
There are two styles; Vietnamese and Chinese style (also known as lumpia). They are usually filled with a mixture of seasoned vegetables such as cabbage, carrots, bean sprouts, mushrooms, and if meat is added it is typically either minced pork, chicken, or shrimp.
Air Fryer Ground Beef Egg Rolls are one of our other favorite variations, if we are making a version for a hearty meal instead of an appetizer. I mean once you get the hang of how these are made, homemade, you can tweak them to your hearts desire.

Can you cook frozen spring rolls in air fryer?
Yes, we have enjoyed Costco spring rolls before cooked this way because they come out way crispier than in the microwave or oven. It doesn’t take much longer than made homemade really, you would follow the instructions in our Frozen Egg Rolls in Air Fryer in that case.
Can you use egg roll wrappers to make spring rolls?
I mean you could but the texture would not be traditional. You can almost always find those at the grocery store so it is more convenient, or You can make Homemade Egg Roll Wrappers if you wanted. You may need to visit an Asian market or order these online if you want the real deal.
Homemade Spring Roll Wrappers
If you cannot locate any and just want to make things “easier” you should just make your own at home. It is easier than you might think, a bit trickier on the first go around because they are delicate, but I have faith in you. 😉

Variations
We show you a number of different options in our Air Fryer Egg Rolls Not Frozen post too. In this case I show you how to do as little prep as possible and grabbing a bag of coleslaw mix at the store. That has the shaved carrots and things already in there which makes things super easy, even a teen can do it.
If you did want to add meat it would need to be precooked. If you have leftover chicken that works well, diced up steak from the night before works well too. You just want it in small pieces so when you bite it it’s easy to chew and not have to be cut.

Air Fryer Spring Rolls Recipe
Equipment
- 1 air fryer
- 1 Bowl
Ingredients
- 12 large spring roll pastry wrappers, like egg roll wrappers but thinner
- 3 cup coleslaw mix
- 1 cup bean sprouts
- 1 cup mushrooms, sliced thin

- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp ginger, grated
- 1 tbsp cornstarch, + 2 tbsp water together
- 1 spray olive oil
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, and ginger. Mix well. To the sauce, add the coleslaw mix, beansprouts, and mushrooms. Toss well to coat. Allow to marinate for 5 minutes before tossing again.
- Lay out two overlapping spring roll wrappers like a diamond. Place a spoonful of the vegetable mixture in the center.
- Mix the cornstarch and water with a fork whisked until smooth. Set aside. Fold the sides of the wrapper over the filling, then fold the bottom over and roll tightly. Use the cornstarch-water mixture to seal the edge.
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 5 minutes. Lightly coat the spring rolls with olive oil cooking spray and place them in the air fryer basket, making sure they are not touching.
- Air fry for 10-12 minutes, turning halfway through, or until they are golden brown and crispy to your liking. Serve with your favorite dipping sauce.

Spring rolls can be gluten-free depending on how they are prepared. Traditional wrappers are typically made from rice flour, water, and salt, which are naturally gluten free ingredients. However, some commercial spring roll wrappers may contain wheat flour as an ingredient so it’s important to check the packaging.

Really you use the same temperature and timing with frozen spring rolls vs egg rolls homemade with rice paper. Deep fried would take less time but I don’t like the added calories of that method. In a pan with a bit of oil works too if that is all you have. Just a few minutes on each side will do for pan fried.
