Mini powdered sugar donuts are fun!! You can make “regular” sizes or holes this way too, you just use a different amount of batter for each shape and size. Inside is a fluffy vanilla cake from scratch but will share how to use any type of cake mix below too. (affiliate links present)

How to Make Powdered Sugar Donut Holes

We have made these as Powdered Sugar Homemade Donut Holes too. If you like a smaller size you can use a different pan to make that shape. I mean you could even bake in a mini muffin tin if you already have one of those and don’t care about what they look like.

We have done this same concept when making Baked Pumpkin Donuts too. This light fluffy sugar coating the outside and getting your fingers coated with yum is an easy way to make baked goods pretty and sweeter. When warm it sticks right on and coats every single inch.

Now if you want to make these without any batter you could. You’d need to follow our Air Fryer Biscuit Donuts recipe with a can of Pillsbury Grands to make the base. Works in oil or air fried, then toss in confectioners sugar at the end and make them that way!

What are the ingredients in powdered donuts?

  • We used a mini donut pan to make these but I have a link to both sizes below in the recipe card
  • 1 c powdered sugar to use once baked, and a bowl
  • egg
  • 1/2 c sugar
  • 3/4 c milk
  • Vegetable oil
  • Vanilla
  • Almond extract
  • All purpose flour
  • Baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Unlike our Dunkin Donut Muffins you will need a special pan for this, instead of just a muffin pan. Believe me if you buy one you will use it over and over again so don’t fret, it will get it’s money worth for sure.

Instant Pot Directions

Want to make Pressure Cooker Donuts tossed in this same sweetness? Great idea too. I used cake mix to make these in an egg bite mold that is silicone. How to Get Powdered Sugar to Stick to Donuts?

When the donuts are done baking, let them cool for 5 minutes. If they are still warm you will get a bit to stick by placing into a bag or bowl and shake around to coat the donuts fully. For more of a coat spray the outsides with some melted butter or oil and then gently press into confectioners sugar. Enjoy immediately!

Donuts with Powdered Sugar

Are baked or fried donuts better?

Baked donuts are quick and easy with NO oil to fry them in. Not only are they healthier but softer too. You can tweak these all sorts of ways. Other toppings like cinnamon and sugar work well too. You can melt chocolate chips or candy melts and dip the top, cool on a wire rack and sprinkle colored sprinkles on the top.

A super easy way to bake with your kiddos where they can pipe the donut batter into the pan and not worry about any hot oil. Then decorating is the really fun part. If you wait until they are at room temperature it doesn’t stick quite as well so allow it to cool in the pan for just 5 minutes or so and then toss or dip in a bowl to coat.

What is the difference between cake batter and donut batter?

The latter is thinner. Here we share how to make doughnut batter baked in a donut pan homemade or make easy cake mix donuts!! Easy and quick dessert or breakfast to make that is family friendly and can be coated with powdered sugar.
