Ninja Foodi Egg Roll Bowl

Dump dinners are just the best!! This egg roll wrapper recipe idea is even easier though because you’re just cooking the insides! That is what the good part is anyway, the other is just to make it easier to handle when you’re eating them.

Throw it all in one pot, even your Ninja Foodi will work, saute a bit and then pressure cook for just ZERO minutes. That’s right, no joke.

If you are new to pressure cooking we have a lot of easy one pot meal recipes for you here. To begin with let’s start with a few basic tips:

For reference, this is the model I have (a 6 quart) and use for all recipe creations.

A white Instant Pot with a Star Wars theme sits on the kitchen counter, ready to tackle your favorite beef arm roast recipe. The digital display glows "On." Next to it lie a patterned cloth and some green onions, all against the backdrop of blue kitchen cabinets and a stovetop.

If you haven’t tried cabbage in a while, your taste buds may have changed. I didn’t love it until my 40’s and now I am obsessed. The first recipe I made was this Instant Pot fried cabbage dish and I was in love from there. Seriously, if you have never used this veggie you’ve gotta’ give it a good try.

What is inside an egg roll?

There is no set answer to this. It really can be a catch all for everything you love. Typically there is diced meat, shredded carrots, chopped cabbage and seasonings. Soy sauce is almost always used.

How much is a serving of egg roll in a bowl?

That depends on who’s calculating and making it. This Instant Pot egg roll in a bowl recipe is split up into 4 servings of 2 ounces each.

Is cabbage Keto?

There are only 2 grams of carbs per cup when shredded so it is very low and you can eat quite a bit before falling out of ketosis.

Egg Roll in a Bowl Ingredients

  1. Ground chicken
    1. or ground pork or ground beef works as well
    2. if you have leftover protein to use up you could use just about anything
  2. Bagged coleslaw mix makes it really quick and easy or you can chop it up yourself
  3. Chicken broth
  4. Soy sauce
  5. Ground fresh ginger or you can find it jarred
  6. Salt and pepper
  7. Green onions and sesame seeds are optional to add on top at the end

This has ground turkey in it but you could just as easily dice up a breast or thigh and use that instead. You’ll need to saute any meat you use with a bit of olive oil in your pot first, then continue on to the next steps.

Of course like I said, this popular Asian dish has thousands if not millions of variations to it. As far as the meat you could use anything broken up into small pieces. Ground chicken is just what was on hand to use here. You could easily make your own cabbage mixture, just stick to 8 ounces as the ratio of vegetables to liquid is important. Water could be substituted but won’t lend as much flavor.

How to Make Instant Pot Egg Roll in a Bowl

  1. Turn pressure cooker to saute, add your ground meat, soy sauce and seasonings. Cook until meat is no longer pink, then turn pot off.
  2. Spread meat on bottom of pot. Pour broth on top. Sprinkle cole slaw mix over the top but do not stir
  3. Close lid and steam valve and set to high pressure for 0 minutes cook time.
  4. When done do a quick release and lift lid, stir contents and serve in bowls.

Remember that the meat will release some liquid as well. If you are worried about the rule on the Instant Pot website that you must always add at least 1 cup of liquid or you’ll receive the burn notice, that isn’t true.

What is a zero minute pressure cooking time?

It sounds kinda’ funny but it is possible to do and a few recipes out there require this. Broccoli is one if you still like a bit of firmness, buttered cabbage and this one too.

  • It’s easy!
  • Press manual (if you have that button)
  • Then hit pressure cook
  • Adjust time with – and + sign to go down past 1 to where it says 0
  • The pot will still take time to reach pressure. Once it does it will beep telling you it is done. Then pressure release accordingly.

This is what it looks like once it is done and “fluffed” up. You don’t want to cook it for more than 0 minutes because the cabbage will get way too soft and mushy. You can deep fry or air fry some egg roll wrappers and serve on the side for a bit of crunch too which is kinda’ fun.

Does Eggroll in a Bowl Reheat Well?

Of course!! You know how I hate to waste food so I always want ways of keeping it well for a few days and enjoying it again for another meal. That way you get a 2 for 1 in a sense and a quick second for lunch or dinnertime. You will want to keep it moist so store it in a container with a lid first once it has cooled.

in microwave

Remember that cabbage leaves will continue to wilt as they sit so I recommend enjoying this within the next 24 hours ideally. I am a big texture person so there’s that….. Now you can heat in 45 second increments stirring in between in your microwave to reheat. That works but if you really want to fix the soft texture you can use your air fryer.

in the oven

You’d need to move this into an oven safe dish or small pan that will fit. Spread it out and heat at 400 degrees F for 2 minutes, toss, and heat again for another 2-3 again or until it is as hot as you’d like it to be. That way it will liven it back up a bit and crisp up the edges of your leaves nicely. In a pan will do something similar getting rid of that wetness it will have.

There are tons of great ideas but inside air fryer frozen egg rolls or in our Instant Pot cabbage casserole might be our favorite. It gives every dish a nice crush with a subtle flavor that goes with just about every meat.
