Copycat BK Chicken Fries Air Fryer

So there have always been a favorite treat for my kids. After school they would get to choose a treat after school every Monday and this was their choice many times. The biggest, and kinda’ only, difference between those and ours is that these are way healthier!

NO need to submerge in fatty oils, all you need is this nifty hot air machine or Ninja Foodi. For extra crispy outsides you could use a spray of olive oil but not much. Also, you will know exactly what is inside, fresh chicken breast…instead of a sorta’ mystery meat.

If you love extra crispy food and quick recipes, here are some resources to start with:

A close-up photo of a hand pulling out the basket of an open air fryer on a light-colored surface. The interior of the air fryer basket is empty and features a mesh design, perfect for cooking your favorite dishes like bang bang shrimp. The edge of the air fryer has a latch mechanism for securing the basket.

We started at the very beginning of learning about this machine by making air fryer fried chicken. That was so delicious we went on from there with all the things. You will want to use boneless skinless chicken breasts that are fresh or defrosted for this recipe.

What are the ingredients in Burger King chicken fries?

The meat is processed and almost identical to what is inside frozen chicken nuggets. The outside is a combination of bleached wheat flour, starch, dextrose, salt, spices, maltodextrin, and a few other items that are hard to spell and/or pronounce.

Homemade Chicken Fries Ingredients

  1. Fresh chicken sliced into thin strips
  2. Breadcrumbs
  3. Salt and pepper (and any other seasonings you love)
  4. Olive oil

Can you make chicken fries with frozen chicken?

If you don’t this won’t work. Reason being is the breadcrumbs won’t stick to the outsides very well. The best option for that would be to follow our air fryer frozen chicken breast instructions. That won’t be breaded but you can brush bbq sauce on top and they’re pretty darn fantastic.

You could add dry Sriracha for heat if you wanted, that is good in the coating and/or to sprinkle on top when done too for really spicy.

Chicken and Fries Air Fryer

This time you are going to start with whole or tenders and slice them even thinner. Remember that the narrower they are the crunchier they are and the insides will be less tender. If you want to cook them with air fryer French fries at the same time you could! Just lay in a single layer until golden and crispy.

When you are making breaded chicken in air fryer you need to remember to eliminate the moisture from the outside first. This is important so that it sticks well and doesn’t slide off. This may have been frustrating for you in the beginning. Of course you can make air fryer chicken no breading too but this is yummier.

Just use a few paper towels folded into a thick wad to do this. After slicing just lay them on top so the water can be absorbed. Then when you dip them into the oil it will stick well before rolling around into the bread crumb mixture.

How do you make deep fried chicken fries?

You could use these same directions but drop them in hot oil instead. That would not take as long to cook but of course is going to increase the fat content quite a bit from what’s listed below.

What goes good with chicken fries?

You could refer to our chicken wings sauces pot and use all of those for dipping. Our favorite out of those is the bang bang sauce but ketchup is a given if you aren’t into experimenting. If you want to add a veggie on the side, try our air fryer jicama fries to their plates.

How to Make Air Fryer Chicken Fries

See how crispy and crunchy these look?!! To start you’re going to slice meat thin like french fry sizes. Lay on paper towels to remove moisture from outside.

  • In a bowl mix breadcrumbs with seasonings, and pour oil into a small bowl.
  • Dip 1 at a time into the oil and then roll around in crumbs to coat the outsides well.
  • Preheat air fryer at 350 F for 5 minutes. Spray inside of air fryer basket with non stick spray.
  • Lay coated pieces inside basket without overlapping them. Close, cook for about 10-12 minutes cooking time or until middles are cooked through and outside is as browned and crispy as you’d like.

Serve with your favorite dipping sauce and enjoy! These will surely remind you of your favorite fast food joint and you may never buy them there again. 😉

More Air Fryer Fried Chicken Recipes

There are tons of different versions, this is a great finger food version that is super crispy. Air fryer fried chicken breast is sliced smaller but are more like tenders. You can cook from whole like air fryer fried chicken thighs too but that would be more edible with a fork and knife. This is fun food y’all.

How to Cook Air Fryer Frozen Chicken Fries

If you bought them already made and bagged in the freezer section of your grocery store you can certainly air fry those too. These cook similarly to our air fryer frozen chicken tenders too but not as long since they’re skinnier.

  • Preheat machine to 380 degrees F for 5 minutes.
  • Lay in as many as you’d like in a single layer without overlapping pieces.
  • Cook for about 6 minutes shaking the basket halfway through.
  • Check by breaking one piece in half and feeling the center.
  • Can spray outsides with olive oil spray in last 2 minutes to get them crispier.

That is it, either way they are delish. Make a finger food kinda’ dinner with turnip fries air fryer style too on the side for a fun meal.
