Free Campgrounds in Idaho
Redfish Lake – This is one of our favorite spots for hiking and biking. You can find a camping spot there too.
Farragut State Park – With over 4,000 acres, adventure and activities await. The camping is great and there are options for fishing, boating, swimming, and hiking as well. Fun little history fact is that this was originally the site of the second largest naval training station…now turned into a state park. Get excited about an awesome camping adventure with this fun find!
- Ponderosa State Park
Camp in beauty at this state park surrounded by 150-feet tall Ponderosa pine trees. There is plenty of opportunities to see an abundance of wildlife, and possibly even a bear or two! Did I mention the stunning view of the lake? This state park is a must-stop camping destination on your journey.

Hot Springs Camp ground – If you’re seeking a camping trip where you can just float in the river, look no further than Hot Springs Campground. Plus, you can also take a relaxing dip in the hot springs as well. Add a bit of excitement to your camping trip with the option of whitewater rafting also!
- Badger Creek Camping
A smaller campground with only 5 sites offering privacy and seclusion. Snuggle up in your tent listening to the sounds of the river or spend your time keeping an eye out for the abundance of wildlife.
- Cozy Cove Campground
Every campsite at this campground has a lake view. The entire campground is situated on a bluff overlooking the beautiful lake. If you are seeking a peaceful view at an awesome campground, this campground may just be exactly what you are looking.
- Lake Cascade
We drove up there and just spent the day. We were really surprised at what a beautiful area they have available for RVs and tents that are overlooking the lake with no obstructions and just $10 a night!! They are first come first serve but when we were there in late July it wasn’t even full on a Sunday.
- Bear Lake State Park
There are paths down to the “beach” area where you can set up chairs for the day, here’s what the view from 1 of the campsites looked like when we pulled our truck in. The picture at the bottom of this post is Lake Cascade itself and my kids playing on and around the sandy area. You can rent paddle boards and I believe other water “toys” there too.

Bald Mountain Campground – Two words: Total seclusion. Only 4 campsites ensuring the privacy that you may be seeking. Pack your books, your sunscreen, and a comfy chair and get ready to camp in total relaxation.
- Swinging Bridge Campground
Canyon views await at this campground. Shade is also not an issue due to the trees that surround it. Great fishing options as well!
- Hardscrabble Campground
Situated on the bank of a river, and a great campground for bird-watching! Plus, there are trails for ATV lovers as well.
- Penny Springs Campground
A remote campground that lets you truly enjoy what nature has to offer. Enjoy fishing or taking a stroll on the nearby trails.
- Big Roaring River Lake Campground
Trails available for people, horses and ATV’s! Plus, campsite options are next to beautiful lake views offering stunning views.
- Bear Valley Campground
A campground that gets quite a bit of traffic during the peak season and on weekends, and is located on the Bear Valley Creek.
