Especially during the summer we are all about watermelon anything!! From incorporating them into a salad, slicing it for a bbq, or a yummy drink like this watermelon juice recipe. It’s just the best summer cocktail ever. Here’s how you make it. (affiliate links present, originally published 1/19)

Watermelon Juice Cocktail

There is usually a watermelon on our counter from about June thru the end of August at all times. Talk about the best taste, so versatile, and pretty inexpensive too. With kids you can just make as is but if you are having company over, spike it!

That is right, this and our sparkling sangria makes a great vodka cocktail too. Such a pretty color when served in a pitcher or could get frozen into watermelon ice cubes and used in water or fresh squeezed lemonade.

Fresh Squeezed Watermelon Juice

To get started you’re going to want to read our how to cut a watermelon post first. You’ll want smaller watermelon cubes just so you can ensure there are no seeds and it will blend up easier.

  1. Fresh lemons or bottled lemon juice
  2. Water
  3. Sugar
  4. Fresh watermelon juice, seedless is easier to deal with
  5. Blackberries or fresh raspberries
  6. Vodka if you want to spike it

Serve in cute mason jars especially if you are serving this for a get together. To use them in another way you can use a piece of twine with a little wooden tag. Use a sharpie to write each guests name on that tag and use it as a place holder. Then they can pick it up, use it to drink and take it home as a gift at the end too.

Watermelon Juice Benefits

Did you know that this juicy fruit has several health benefits too? Yes, it can cut down on cramps overall, especially when you are at the gym. It’s high in antioxidants, potassium and amino acids as well. Low in calories because most of it is sweetened water it is seriously like the perfect super food of sorts. You could eat a ton without feeling guilty.

Of course you can use mixes from the store to make drinks for get togethers but homemade is much better. You can buy a variety of this at Nekter Juice Bar or other locations. I love being able to make it myself too though. It is not just great as is with the kids when hot but made into watermelon margaritas too!

If you’ve got kids I know they love watermelon too. Talking about pretty, if you want to make a few varieties for people to choose from I would also recommend our party punch. We all love color and these are fabulous.

This is a fabulous summer drink you can tweak all different ways. Use half lime juice (like our lime refresher) and half lemon if you like. Add some bubbly with club soda inside. Add a bit of fresh mint to the top for color and flavor. All of these are super easy ways to change this simple fruit juice.

  • Mix together 4 c. of water, lemon juice from lemons and sugar. You may choose to boil the water and sugar first so it dissolves, some prefer this so it doesn’t separate quite as much. We usually don’t bother.
  • Add watermelon, berries, and 2.5 c. water into a blender and smooth.
  • Add watermelon mix to lemonade mixture and serve cold with ice. Could add a bit of something “for adults” too.

Ways to Sweeten Juice

You could easily make this with no added sugar. It is sweet enough for some. For a more natural sweetener, agave nectar works well too if you wanted. A Torani simple syrup would work too. Make it a watermelon cocktail or mocktail y’all! Jump to recipe and get started. Let us know what you make with it.

One of the easiest and most common ways to sweeten juice is to add sugar. You can add granulated, powdered, or even brown sugar to homemade juice. Another natural sweetener that you can add to your juice is honey. It not only adds sweetness but also provides health benefits.

Agave syrup is a natural sweetener that is commonly used in smoothies and juices. It has a mild flavor and is less processed than other sweeteners.

  1. Maple syrup is a natural sweetener that adds a unique flavor to juice. It is a healthier alternative to processed sugar.
  2. Stevia is a natural sweetener that comes from a plant, but is lighter to sweeten than sugar. Biggest difference is it has zero calories which is why most people use it over the others.
  3. You can add ripe fruits to your juice to naturally sweeten it. For example, adding a banana or a ripe pear to a green smoothie can make it sweeter.
  4. OR blend a sweeter fruit juice such as apple or grape with a tart juice such as lemon or lime juice to balance the sweetness.

Remember, it’s important to balance the sweetness with the tartness or acidity of the juice to create a well rounded flavor.
