Cake mix Oreo bundt cake is an easy dessert to make and best cake mix hack. With chocolate cake and cookies inside the batter it’s delicious with frosting over the top.
It is a fun way of how to make cake mix better! The dry mix provides a great base but with ingredients beyond what is listed on the box you can make it super moist and this time we added cookies inside and on the top too. You could make vanilla cake with chocolate frosting or vise versa. (post may contain affiliate links present)
Cake Mix Oreo Bundt Cake
Do you love a pudding cake? This is one of those which means you add the instant powdered mix into the batter to make it super tender inside when baked. You can use the sugar free version like we did or regular fashion. Instant is the key vs. the old fashioned type that needs to be boiled in order to thicken.
We have used these same chocolate cookies to make the base for our Philadelphia Cheesecake Bars, they are super versatile like that. Crushed works well inside for baking so you get extra richness and a little added texture with whole pieces for the top to garnish each piece served. I mean do what you love.
Oreo Cake with Cake Mix
This is just one of our many boxed cake mix recipes. More traditional than others we have shared as this is still a cake, but made in a prettier form, with more ingredients than listed on the box to make it just better. For the mix there are tons of variations out there. Devil’s Food is great, milk chocolate, or do it opposite with vanilla on the bottom.
- 1 box cake mix devil’s food used
- 1 oz pudding mix chocolate or vanilla
- 1/2 c vegetable oil
- 3 eggs
- 1 c milk
- 10 oreos crushed for inside batter
- 1 tub cream cheese frosting
As for the baking time it is basically the same as all of our other creations. Like with our Cake Mix Tom Cruise Cake you want to stay close once the timing is almost up. Some ovens run hotter than others and it is best to take it out once the knife or toothpick comes out mostly clean with moist crumbs attached, not dry.
I wouldn’t recommend it though if you only add the ingredients listed on the box you can, but will likely have a bit of batter left. You should never fill it more than 3/4 of the way full or it will overflow. To be extra safe I would set it on a baking sheet in case it drips a bit.
Cake Mix Chocolate Bundt Cake
Tips and tricks to making a regular size or Mini Bundt Cake is to spray the inside, every nook and cranny with non stick spray. Allow it to cool in the pan for a good 10 minutes when done. Use a plate or tray bigger than the bundt opening. Set on top and use pot holders to hold, quickly flip over and should slide right out.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- Spray your bundt pan with nonstick spray. In a large bowl, whisk together the chocolate cake mix and instant chocolate pudding mix.
- Add the vegetable oil, eggs and milk.
- Mix well with a hand mixer or stand mixer to get smooth.
- Stir in the broken oreo pieces. (or mini chocolate chips could be used)
- Pour the batter into your prepared bundt cake pan. (I like Nordic Ware brand)
- Bake the cake for approximately 30-35 minutes. Remove and let cool before turning out on a plate.
- Spread desired amount of frosting on top of the cake and garnish with crushed or whole Oreo cookies. ENJOY!
You always want cakes to cool to room temperature on a wire rack before frosting unless you just want it to slide right off. If you cannot wait, slice, plate and put a dollop of frosting on top each serving that way so it isn’t as messy. Everyone will love the Surprise Inside Cake if they didn’t know there were bits inside already.
Cake Mix with Oreos
Now you could add more, into the bottom of the pan (which will become the top) like we do with our Pecan Bundt Cake. If you do that I would just half or quarter them so they are larger.
What cookies could you use other than Oreos in your cake? There are several. When substituting cookies in a cake recipe, consider the flavor and texture, and how they will complement the overall taste. You may need to adjust the amount used to achieve the desired flavor and texture. If you’d like to experiment with different flavors, here are a few to try;
Cookies Inside a Cake
Chocolate chip cookies like Chips Ahoy can add a classic and familiar flavor to your treat too. Use them in place of Oreos, and you’ll have a delightful chocolate chip cookie cake.
- If you love peanut butter, use peanut butter cookies to create a peanut butter-flavored cake. You can also mix in some peanut butter chips for extra richness.
- Snickerdoodle have a cinnamon-sugar flavor that can add a warm and comforting touch to your cake.
- Double chocolate cookies are another chocolatey option, and they can make your cake extra decadent. You will want them crunchy to begin with so as they bake they will soften and not disintegrate.
- Mint chocolate can give your cake a refreshing and minty twist. Consider adding some crushed peppermint candies for extra flair.
- For a unique and spicy flavor, use crushed gingerbread cookies. This is especially great for holiday-themed cakes and add a bit of cinnamon punch to each bite.
- Shortbread have a buttery and crumbly texture that can be a delightful addition to your cake.
- If you want to get fancy, you can use crushed macarons for a sophisticated touch. Match the macaron flavors to your cake for a harmonious taste.
Crushing into small pieces or crumbs and folding them into the cake batter is a common approach. Experiment with your cookie cake! If you do have leftovers wrap in plastic wrap and keep in the fridge for best results. Warm for 30 seconds or enjoy cold as a treat the next day. Jump to recipe and get started.
