Baked hashbrowns are super convenient when you are cooking other dishes the same way. Preheat once, slide on to the racks and have everything done at the same time to enjoy like our no peel baked eggs. A cheap side dish everyone loves. (affiliate links present)

Now you can bake these shredded or in patties. Both take about the same amount of time and you will want to flip either of them to get crisp on both sides. You can sometimes find chunks of potatoes instead of shreds like you see here which is about the same too as listed below. Timing may need to be adjusted depending on your prefernces.

You will need a sheet pan to make any of these. You could use a round baking pan if that is all you have but you don’t want them overlapping too much so you’d need at least two. Same goes for Air Fryer Hash Browns from Potatoes where only half a bag at a time works. You can see the result of that at the bottom photo where it is round shaped.

This is just the basics. From there you could make other things as well really, or add meat and/or cheese to the top of this one. Once you get the hang of the basics you can then go from there. A healthier version than our 5 Ingredient Hash Brown Casserole and great to offer as an option when guests come over.

Literally all you need for this is; A bag of frozen shredded potatoes + olive oil spray or melted butter, I like a bit of + seasonings like some salt and pepper. Beyond that you could toss in;

  • Bacon bits
  • Diced leftover precooked meat
  • Shredded cheese can be added during the last few minutes
  • Chives or diced onions
  • Add heat with some diced roasted jalapenos

If you are going to add other ingredients what I like to is toss everything together in a bowl and then spread it out. For a great duo make Hard Boiled Eggs in the Oven first and then increase temp and make this to serve together.

Sheet Pan Hash Browns

Baking frozen hash browns in the oven is a convenient and healthy alternative to frying, as it requires little to no added oil. Plus, it results in crispy bits on the top that are evenly cooked. Feel free to experiment with different seasonings and toppings like cheese or leftover ham to customize to your liking.

  1. Preheat the Oven
    • Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F – 200°C. It’s really important in this case to have the oven hot before cooking hash browns recipe here.
  2. Bake on Sheet Pan
    • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil for easy cleanup. If you prefer not to use parchment paper or foil, you can lightly grease the baking sheet with cooking spray or a small amount of vegetable oil to prevent sticking.
  3. Arrange
    • Take the shredded hash browns from the packaging and spread them out in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Ensure they are not touching or overlapping for even cooking.
  4. Season
    • If you’d like to add extra flavor, you can season the hash browns with a pinch of salt, pepper, or your preferred seasonings. This step is entirely optional and can be adjusted to your taste.
  5. Bake Hashbrowns in the Oven
    • Place the baking sheet with the spread out shredded potatoes on the center rack of the preheated oven.
  6. Bake Shredded Potatoes
    • Bake for 15-20 minutes. After the first 10 minutes, check them and flip them over with a spatula or tongs to ensure they cook evenly.
      • If you prefer them to be more perfectly crispy hash browns, or add shredded cheese, you can leave them in the oven for an additional 5-10 minutes.
    • Spraying the top with olive oil helps crisp faster too.

How to Bake Hash Browns

Serve Hot – Once they are golden brown and crispy to your liking, remove them from the oven. Allow them to cool for a minute or two before serving. Serve your perfect hash browns hot as a side dish for breakfast or any meal of your choice.

They pair well with eggs, bacon, or a variety of toppings like cheese, sour cream, or ketchup. OR you can use them to make Hash Brown Casserole without Soup with them too.
