Sheet Pan Hash browns

We have shared how to cook frozen hashbrowns lots of ways but this is best for shredded or in patties. Both take about the same amount of time and you will want to flip either of them to get crisp on both sides.

You could use a round baking pan if that is all you have but you don’t want them overlapping too much so you’d need at least two. Same goes for Air Fryer Hash Browns where only half a bag at a time works. You can see the result of that at the bottom photo where it is round shaped.

Literally all you need for this is; A bag of frozen shredded potatoes + olive oil spray or melted butter, I like a bit of + seasonings like some salt and pepper. Beyond that you could toss in add ins like bacon bits, diced ham or cheese. We will talk more about that below.

How long do you bake frozen hashbrown patties?

Bake for 10-15 minutes at 400 degrees F. or until both sides are golden brown and as crispy as you would like. Of course there are variations to this depending on how large and thick they are but this is typically right on. I recommend flipping halfway or setting them on a cooling rack on top of your baking sheet for hot air to rotate and crisp.

How Long to Bake Shredded Hashbrowns in Oven

You will need 15-20 minutes and after the first 10 minutes flip them with a spatula or tongs to ensure they cook evenly. If you want extra crispy hash browns, or add shredded cheese, you can leave them in the oven for an additional 5-10 minutes. Spraying the top with olive oil helps crisp faster too.

Baking Tips

Frozen hashbrowns in oven temperature should be preheated, the oven at 400 degrees is ideal. Best have the oven hot before cooking hash browns recipe here.

Bake on Sheet Pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil for easy cleanup, or lightly grease the baking sheet with cooking spray or a small amount of vegetable oil to prevent sticking.

Arrange, shredded hash browns in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Ensure they are not touching or overlapping for even cooking.

Season if you’d like to add extra flavor, you can season with a pinch of salt and pepper Bake shredded potatoes on the center rack of the preheated oven.

Baked Frozen Hashbrowns

What can you add to frozen hash browns to make them taste better?

Baking frozen hash browns in the oven is a convenient and healthy alternative to frying, as it requires little to no added oil. Plus, it results in crispy bits on the top that are evenly cooked. Feel free to experiment with different seasonings and toppings like cheese or leftover ham to customize to your liking.

  • Bacon bits
  • Diced leftover precooked meat
  • Shredded cheese can be added during the last few minutes
  • Chives or diced onions
  • Add heat with some diced roasted jalapenos

If you are going to add other ingredients what I like to is toss everything together in a bowl and then spread it out. For a great duo make Hard Boiled Eggs in the Oven first and then increase temp and make this to serve together.

This is just the basics. From there you could make other things as well really, or add meat and/or cheese to the top of this one. Once you get the hang of the basics you can then go from there. A healthier version than our 5 Ingredient Hash Brown Casserole and great to offer as an option when guests come over.

All brands work the same way as the directions in the recipe card below. They pair well with eggs, bacon, or a variety of toppings like cheese, sour cream, or ketchup. OR you can use them to make Hash Brown Casserole without Soup with them too.
