We love making peach hand pies with refrigerated pie crust, or our 3 Ingredient Pie Crust. Made with fresh or peach pie filling they are are easy dessert baked in the oven or air fryer.

Peach Hand Pies

Hand pies with fruit are easy to make, bake and enjoy after dinner. With a glaze over the top or a sprinkle of cinnamon and sugar you can fill these with just about anything. Serve on the go or warm with a scoop of ice cream on top.

Just like our Blueberry Hand Pies you can bake these to a golden brown on top or crisp the edges in your favorite countertop appliance like a Cosori or Ninja Foodi. I will explain both ways below so you can try both and see which is your favorite. Once you get the hang of how these are made you will want to try them with other fillings.

Want to make a version of these for dinner too? Take a peek at our Savory Hand Pies you can pick up and take on the go on busy evenings. Make a finger food meal and make both!! If you want a kid friendly meal you will be the hero in the kitchen with one for dinner and dessert this week.

Peach Hand Pie

You could make this with any flavor you want. Blueberry Canned Pie Filling is another great choice as the pieces are small so you can fit it inside nicely. Choose which you like or a duo with half this and half a squeeze of cream cheese is a nice touch too.

What are the best peaches to bake with?

White or yellow makes no difference if you ask me. If you want to remove the peels you’d want to quick blanch them but that’s not necessary. I’ve made chicken pot pie with Puff Pastry this way too. That is bought frozen, defrosted and rolled out this same way. The texture is just poofier than a traditional crust and another great choice as far as the outside goes.

If you wanted to use a roll of crescent rolls you could do so instead. With those you just have to press the perforations together so there’s no leaking. Or for sweeter make canned Cinnamon Roll Peach Cobbler.

Can you make hand pies with pie filling?

Yes, and that makes them a lot easier. You can use any flavor you like. In this case you would skip cooking the fruit entirely and start with step 5 instead. You would likely need 2 cans to fill each one.

Air Fryer Peach Hand Pies

Air Fryer Method

For air fryer hand pies instead our Air Fryer dumplings steps are basically the same. Keep in mind that this will only bake a few at a time so if you are feeding a crowd I would choose the oven instead. Or you can prep many of them and set on a parchment lined baking sheet to cook in batches.

Baked in the Oven

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Prep a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside. Bake in the oven for 15 minutes until golden brown. While those bake, make the glaze in a separate bowl. Add 1 cup powdered sugar, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp vanilla and 1 tbsp milk all at once.

I like to whisk together some milk and powdered sugar until combined and a smooth glaze is formed. Let cool for 10 minutes. Drizzle the glaze over each hand pie. Enjoy!

Instructions

  • Baked Hand Pies – Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Prep a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside. Remove the pie crust from the fridge to thaw to room temperature.
  • ** If using a can of pie filling you can skip making your own and skip to the egg wash step.
  • In a saucepan, add the peaches and butter. Warm on medium heat until the peaches begin to soften and release juices. Add in the brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice and salt. Mix together until combined and the peaches are soft. Cook for about 10-15 minutes.
  • Use a fork to mash any large chunks left of the peaches, leaving some consistency of peach chunks throughout the juicy mixture. To thicken this sauce, add the cornstarch. Stir together until  combined and then remove from the heat.
  • Let sit for a couple minutes to cool and thicken. On a clean and floured surface, roll out the pie crust dough. Use a large circular cookie cutter (3.5 inch) to cut out circles in the pie dough. Repeat with the second dough slab in the package. Take any scraps and reroll into a dough ball and roll out to cut out more circles.
  • Place these circles on the baking sheet. Fill the center of each circle with a large tablespoon of peach filling. Use egg wash to baste around the edges of the dough. Place another circle piece of dough on top of the filling and use a fork to seal the edges.
  • Place 4 slits in the center of the hand pie. Repeat until all hand pies are made. Brush each pie with egg wash and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and sanding sugar too if you like.
  • Bake in the oven for 15 minutes until golden brown. While those bake, make the glaze in a separate bowl. Add 1 cup powdered sugar, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp vanilla and 1 tbsp milk all at once.
  • Air Fryer Peach Hand Pies – Preheat air fryer to 350 degrees for 5 minutes. Follow instructions as described above. Spray basket with non stick spray. Set inside without overlapping. Brush the tops with your egg wash in a small bowl and sanding or granulated sugar for added sweet. Air fry for 10-12 minutes or until they are golden brown on the top
  • Whisk together until combined and a smooth glaze is formed. Remove the hand pies from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes. Drizzle the glaze over each hand pie. Enjoy!

Notes

Made with Pie Filling

You would skip the whole processing the filling part above and just open the can. I would suggest slicing the large pieces in the can into smaller bite size pieces.

How do you reheat hand pies?

When you’re ready to enjoy the leftover peach hand pies, remove them from the freezer and let them thaw in the refrigerator overnight. Reheat them in a preheated oven at around 350° F for about 10-15 minutes or until they are heated through and crisp. Once reheated, your leftover hand pies should taste almost as good as when they were freshly baked.

How do You Save Leftover Hand Pies?

Before storing, allow the hand pies to cool completely. This prevents condensation inside the storage container, which can make the pies soggy.
– Wrap each hand pie individually with plastic wrap or aluminum foil. This helps prevent them from sticking together and preserves their freshness.
– Place the individually wrapped pieces in an airtight container. Alternatively, you can use a resealable plastic bag. Press out as much air as possible to prevent freezer burn.
– If you plan to store for an extended period, it’s a good idea to label the container or bag with the date. This way, you can keep track of their freshness.
– Store the wrapped and sealed pies in the freezer. They can be stored for up to 2-3 months in the freezer without a significant loss of quality.

How do you reheat frozen hand pies?

Start by preheating your oven to around 350°F. This temperature allows the peach hand pies to heat evenly without burning. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent them from sticking. Arrange on the prepared baking sheet. Leave some space between them to ensure even heating. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 15-20 minutes or until the hand pies are heated through

Eight round dough pieces, reminiscent of the gentle sweetness found in peach hand pies, rest poised on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Mini peach hand pies with drizzled icing rest enticingly on a baking sheet.
