This is how to make Bisquick cheddar bay biscuits for an easy side dish. A Red Lobster copycat variation that are moist and fluffy filled with cheese drizzled with garlic butter. Just one of many Bisquick recipes we have shared.

If you have been to that popular seafood restaurant you know how good these are. We always have leftovers to take home because we kinda’ fill up on these before the meal gets to us. 😉 Served with soup or with your favorite chicken recipe they are just too good to resist when they’re on the table.

Only used this ready made mix to make pancakes in the morning? There are SO many other things you can make with it well beyond that. We first made Bisquick muffins with it and couldn’t believe how yummy they were. Then we went on to experiment beyond that. There WILL be even more coming out soon so subscribe to my newsletter below.

Red Lobster Biscuits with Bisquick

Tips – when making any sort of dough you’re baking is to NOT over-mix them either. Just blend ingredients until it’s moist and then stop. Use very little flour to roll out on to a cutting board (if you’re doing that, not here). Read all 4 tips on how to make Bisquick biscuits fluffy here, then proceed.

The biggest change from transitioning these from “plain” to wow is the shredded cheddar cheese. I prefer sharp but you could go with medium, or mix white and yellow cheddar. A garlic butter sauce is brushed or poured on top as well. Of course this is optional but why would you NOT want to add it??

Ingredient Notes

The main dry ingredient is Bisquick baking mix, in the big yellow box is typical, or you can use the Heart Smart healthier powder we chose this time as you can see. I will say that the healthier version will be a bit more dry.

To make the batter you will want some Milk, whole is best for sure to make them as moist and tender as possible. If you needed to use a dairy free alternative I would opt for plain cashew milk as that is the thickest and creamiest.

Shredded cheese is a must, sharp variety is our favorite one to use but you really could use any that you love.

For the butter mixture drizzle on top you’re going to need butter, garlic powder, minced garlic, Old Bay, and chopped parsley. This is how you get them to taste almost identical to the ones at the restaurant.

    Substitutions

There is a gluten free version of this dry mix if you need that. Need them dairy free? Use plain almond or cashew milk instead with vegan plant based butter! You will likely not be able to tell the difference. 😉 Biscuits with Jiffy Mix are possible too if that is the box you have instead of this one.

Can you use water instead of milk?

I mean no, just don’t. You need some fat to make these flaky and moist which water isn’t going to do, plus that would add no taste at all. We aren’t counting calories when enjoying this Southern favorite y’all. Use vitamin D vs. 2% and go all the way….

Do you have to roll out Bisquick biscuits?

You do not have to roll these out and/or use cookie cutters to shape them. That means they are easier to make and you’ll eliminate possibly drying them out with additional flour. Involve your kids with this one too. It only needs a little elbow grease to incorporate with a wooden or plastic spoon. You just:

How to Make Bisquick Cheddar Biscuits Red Lobster

Always make sure that you preheat oven to 400 degrees before adding your tray so they bake evenly. In a small bowl mix in a bowl your Bisquick mix, salt, 1/2 tsp garlic powder, and 1/4 tsp Old bay.

Pour in your whole milk and blend into dough forms. Fold in cheese and gently combine. Line baking sheet with parchment paper and drop large dollops on top with space in between so they can spread and rise. Bake 12-15 minutes or until golden browned on the edges and center of garlic biscuits is no longer sticky.

If you have your oven preheated and baking sheets ready to drop the dough balls you can pop them in and make the butter drizzle. Add the seasonings you like, taste as you go and make it the perfect flavor. I am obsessed with using air fryer garlic diced into this mix and on top as well. It’s great for you and the taste is amazing.

    Air Fryer Method

If you are making these in the summertime and don’t want to heat up your entire house you can follow our homemade air fryer biscuits temp. and timing. That is a great way to cook a small batch at a time. If there are only a few of you at home you can cook a few and then wait until dinner and bake the remaining dough.

How do you store biscuits for later?

Wait until they are all cooled down completely and no longer warm. Get a piece of aluminum foil out and wrap them tightly. Then slide this into a freezer bag so they are laying flat. This way they will remain moist on the countertop (not fridge) for 1-2 days. After that they will change texture especially if you have the butter on top.

You could freeze them to last longer. If you do allow them to defrost on the countertop for a few hours. Enjoy them cold or warm again in the microwave for 30 seconds and serve with other leftovers.

Sweet or savory it is super versatile for sure.

Why are my Bisquick biscuits crumbly?

There are a few reasons you can run down and then change things up the next time you make them. If you use their heart healthy version there is less fat, meaning they won’t be as fluffy and moist.
#2 When rolling them out you may have used too much flour and dried out the dough. #3 fat free milk won’t make them as moist as using whole that contains more fat.
