Crunchy Ninja Foodi air fryer avocado fries are the best healthy snack ever! Lightly breaded with flavorful breadcrumbs or Panko like our air fryer zucchini fries, even my kids ask for these.

We made these air fryer avocado fries in our Ninja Foodi the other night and had to make another batch the very next night! They were so good that we had to divvy them up so everyone got the same amount. One of my girls’ favorite and easy air fryer recipes here on the blog. (affiliate links present)

How to Cook Avocado in Air Fryer

It kinda’ sounds silly to bake this soft green veggie/fruit?? in your hot air machine but man are these delicious!! Sprinkle in your favorite seasonings into the breadcrumbs and they’re like bites of heaven. As is we loved them but some like to dip them in sauces too.

Not only are these babies tasty but they have a lot of GOOD healthy fat in them for you. That is right, they’re great for your heart and hair! If you’ve had our avocado spread but need other ideas throughout the day, you’re in for a treat with these babies.

If you love extra crispy food and quick recipes, here are some resources to start with:

A close-up photo of a hand pulling out the basket of an open air fryer on a light-colored surface. The interior of the air fryer basket is empty and features a mesh design, perfect for cooking your favorite dishes like bang bang shrimp. The edge of the air fryer has a latch mechanism for securing the basket.

With a Foodi you will use the lid that is attached to crisp these slices. I could eat one every single morning with eggs, and do when I can find them at a decent price. If you think they are pretty bland by themselves but want to incorporate them into your diet you can add all sorts of things inside like;

  1. A tbsp. of salsa inside a half in the middle divot.
  2. Add a sprinkle of salt and pepper.
  3. Mix tuna with some mayo and put a scoop of that inside a half for lunch for a keto add on.
  4. Our rotisserie chicken salad recipe can be added inside too.
What are avocado benefits?

They’re rich in nutrients like vitamins C, E, K, B6, magnesium and potassium as well. Doctor telling you to eat more Omega 3 fatty acids, this is full of those too.

Is it okay to eat a whole avocado a day?

I mean everything should be eaten in moderation. It definitely won’t hurt you but it is high in fat, good fats but still. Half would probably be a better idea if you are in an obsessed phase and just cannot seem to get enough of them. Of course make sure you only eat the pulp soft part inside, the skin and leaves can make you and/or dogs sick. You can bake with them too like with our avocado cake recipe you’ll love.

Then you can make these too and have a big selection of options so you can enjoy some each day of the week. Things you will need to make these slices are:

Ninja Foodi Avocado Fries Ingredients

  • Slices of semi firm avocados are best. You don’t want them soft like you would for guacamole, or rock hard either.
  • Flour will provide the base for the coating
  • Eggs will allow the breading to stick nicely to the outside
  • Panko breadcrumbs gives it a lighter flavor as opposed to using Italian bread crumbs style. Also, this makes it a gluten free option.
  • Chili powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper were added as seasonings.

If you don’t want to use breading you’d have to use a stiffer veggie like our air fryer jicama fries or turnip fries air fryer style. These really need a coating or they’d fall apart.

Can you air fry unripe avocado?

You will not want to do this friends. Just wait until they are slightly tender all over or else you will regret slicing it as once air hits the flesh it will start to brown quickly and won’t ripen any faster. It won’t get ripe with the heat, slices will remain firmer, not as creamy and not have as much flavor as if they started out tender.

How can you ripen an avocado fast?

Believe it or not you just need a paper bag. Put one inside and roll closed, all the way. Set on the counter for 2-3 days and by then it should be just tender enough to slice and enjoy as you wish. If you are breading these you will want it to be a bit firmer than if you were mashing to make guacamole or spread on toast.

Directions

First off you’ll want to slice them in the same size so they cook evenly inside the basket. This is when it comes in handy for them to be a bit on the firm side. As they cook the heat will soften them up but it will easier to handle them if they have a bit of “ooomph” to them.

Prepare a few bowls and make a sort of assembly line of them so you can nicely coat each one. Then once your machine has been preheated for a few minutes you can spray on some non stick spray. That is important not only for cleanup later but also you don’t want all the breading to peel off when you lift them out.

You will do the same thing for each piece. Dip into the flour, then egg, then the Panko…..just like our eggplant fries in air fryer.

How to Make Air Fryer Avocado No Breading

It is possible to dredge in egg, then seasoned almond flour without breading at all too if you want. On the last step you might want to gently press down so it really sticks if you want a nice layer on there. You can opt for just a dusting as well if you’d rather. Cook time of course will vary slightly depending on how thick your pieces are so keep an eye on them.

How to Make Breaded Avocado Fries

  1. Slice each ripe avocado in half and remove the seed in each, discard those. Slice each half into about 6 equal avocado slices, remove and discard the skins.
  2. Remove seeds from lime and squeeze both halves into a bowl. Dip each avocado piece in the juice and set aside. This will help it from browning.
  3. Use 3 shallow bowls; 1 with the flour and seasonings mixed, 2nd with whisked egg, and 3rd with breadcrumbs.
  4. One at a time dip each piece in flour, then egg, then breadcrumbs and press gently so it is nicely coated.
  5. Place into a preheated air fryer basket set to 370F without overlapping.
  6. Air fry for 6-8 minutes flipping after 4 minutes until nicely browned on the outside.
  7. For browner outsides lightly spray with olive oil spray or avocado oil to get perfectly crispy to your liking.

6-8 minutes is pretty standard but some also light the outsides darker so add a minute or two to brown more.

fried avocados

If you are making a large batch you can keep the assembly line up and set breaded avocado pieces on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Then cook in batches, air frying for about 6 minutes on each round. Some people like to add some parmesan cheese into the breading mixture too.

You could add to some batches and leave others dairy free. Either way this is one of our favorite side dishes, and a delicious snack in between meals for sure. I have not tried this with almond flour but it shouldn’t make any difference in timing etc…

If you want a finger food kinda’ afternoon, pair these with some air fryer spam fries and enjoy both together. Of course you can alternatively deep fry these babies, I will tell you that this method is way better. NO icky after taste and much healthier as well of course.

Looking for other fun air fryer snacks or Super Bowl appetizers?? We love chicken fries in air fryer that are bite size and are full of protein.
