We made our own homemade Lawson’s Chip Dip recipe the other day for a party with chips and it was amazing! If you love this creamy chive and onion cream cheese dip with sour cream it is easy to make at home for a lot less.

If you love this savory cold dip but cannot seem to find it in the stores anymore, you can make it with just 3 ingredients. It is a great party food you can serve on your buffet for the next get together with guests.
Ingredients in Lawsons Chip Dip
All you need is some sour cream (don’t use low fat), chive and onion cream cheese and dry Ranch dressing mix is all you need to pick up. You will want to serve this cold so make sure you have a bit of time to chill in the fridge or serve set over a bowl of ice cubes. It is a nice cool option next to your hot dip recipes everyone loves.
I have 5 actually listed below but those are optional to add texture really. The last two are minced or freshly finely diced onions as well as some diced chives (or green onions). You can adjust to your tastebuds and make spicy with red pepper flakes too which is why homemade is always best.

What is the best alternative for sour cream?
The best I have found is plain Greek yogurt. There isn’t that zing to it but with the other ingredients you can mask that issue. If you need something else because you require something dairy free you can find lactose free varieties now at the store that taste amazingly similar.
Do you need to soften cream cheese to make dip?
The second main item is softened cream cheese. It is really important that you leave that block out for 30 minutes to a good hour before whipping it together with the Ranch and flavored sour cream. If not it will be kinda’ clumpy and not meld together very well.
We use it to make our crack chicken dip which is by the way AMAZING and should be made to serve as well. You can whip it with a little milk to make a 2nd option that is great on everything. We use it as a chicken wing dipping sauce as well. Check those out for other options that might suit your fancy as well.
How to Serve
When served choose a variety of dippers I call them. I mean regular Lays work of course but pasta chips or pita chips, salt and pepper zucchini chips and even our favorite bagel chips are even more fun with this
