Copycat Lawson’s Chip Dip

What goes well with potato chips? Well dip of course! If you love having parties or Super Bowl get togethers you might want a few to serve. Yes you will want other appetizers but to fill up your buffet a few cheap dip recipes are ideal.

Of course you can pick up a few at a convenience store but those never taste as good as making them yourself. Not only is the texture off but this is preservative free and you can even make it a bit spicy if you want to. Being able to adjust to your tastebuds is why homemade is always best. Serve with potato chips, pita or even pasta chips for a yummy snack.

3 Ingredient Copycat Lawson’s Potato Chip Dip

I have 5 actually listed below but those are optional to add texture really. The last two are minced or freshly finely diced onions as well as some diced chives (or green onions). The base is basic and you only need the first three. I use ranch seasoning so often I buy it in bulk like you see here.

We use it to make our crack chicken dip which is by the way AMAZING and should be made to serve as well. You can whip it with a little milk to make a 2nd option that is great on everything. We use it as a chicken wing dipping sauce as well. Check those out for other options that might suit your fancy as well.

The second main item is softened cream cheese. It is really important that you leave that block out for 30 minutes to a good hour before whipping it together with the Ranch and flavored sour cream. If not it will be kinda’ clumpy and not meld together very well.

Then if you choose to add the fresh onions you’ll want to dice them up well. Once you have the main mix incorporated well you’d want to gently fold in these with a spatula or spoon. Leave a little on the side so after it is refrigerated you can sprinkle more on top for a garnish.

  • It is best to use a stand or hand mixer to blend the softened cream cheese with chives and the dry ranch dressing mix.
    • Add sour cream and blend until smooth. (do not choose low fat for this)
  • If you want to add fresh (will add some crunch) or dry minced onion fold those in gently with a spatula or spoon. Fold in 1 tbsp of fresh diced chives or green onions.
    • use the base to make another delicious veggie dip, for this just fold in diced bell peppers or other vegetables too
    • works double duty for 2 different potato chip dip recipes
  • This really is best if it is refrigerated for 1 hour before serving.
  • Top easy chip dip with remaining diced chives when served with chips.

When served choose a variety of dippers I call them. I mean regular Lays work of course but pita chips, salt and pepper zucchini chips and even our favorite bagel chips are killer with this.
