Cute Pixel Art Grid

Harry Potter Pixel Art is where we started out. I needed a free activity for a birthday party activity and went with the theme. Of course I shared those then with all of you and everyone just loved the whole idea. When I was a teacher I too loved to find freebies to supplement quick workers time, or use at center time.

I just kept adding and adding once I turned into a blogger and you can find even more throughout this post as well as on our holiday printables post. Especially during family time, rainy days or weekends when little ones need to keep busy they do come in quite handy.

If you are new to this type of art, it is fun. There are several different forms as I mentioned. Some are teeny tiny boxes with directions on the x-y axis to determine what color each should be to create a Coordinate Graphing Mystery Picture like these. Great for High School students or adults.

If you have younger ones though they will want to participate in this too! This is why I have a wide range for all ages and abilities. This one would be a simple Color by Number Kindergarten sheet on up. Not that a 4th grader wouldn’t enjoy this as well but they may like more of a challenge.

In that case I would go with Math Color by Number sheets for them. We have those in a wide range too with subtraction, addition or even some with algebra problems.

Since you’re here I know you are looking for all the free printables for kids you can find. I add more each week so make sure you bookmark the blue link above and check back often.

First you should subscribe to our free newsletter below to get more via. email too. Feel free to print one or as many as you like for rainy day activities that boys and girls will all enjoy! Here are our favorite items to use on coloring pages, word searches and color by number printables;

  • Smencils colored pencils are by far the most fun and vibrant shades ever.
  • With kids I prefer that they have a smaller box of crayons so there are fewer choices, but enough. 😉

Most kids just love our Free Pokemon Pixel Art  pages too. Made the same way basically but feature different well known images and pictures from that popular show and card game. You can click on any of these blue links and the printable links are near the bottom. The emoji link is below this post to grab.

It will pop up in a new window on your laptop or desktop computer. If you then click file, print they will all come out. BUT if you just wanted let’s say 10 happy face color by number sheets you could do that too. Just hit the link, then file, then print, change all to the page # you want and the quantity you want below that.

If you wanted to make a sort of pixel art game out of it you could. In a classroom one would be who can color it the fastest AND the best. Have the students vote to see who wins. Another one would be to use the face pixel art image to write a funny story on the back of the sheet. Have them make a black and white cartoon character comic strip with their character male or female on the front.

Sad Pixel Art

Everyone gets to share their creation in front of the class. Include speech bubbles on top as they speak to one another. Pixel icons can come to life this way, interact with other retro video game characters as they have a cup of coffee together, post on social media, it could be a really fun activity to do.

Free Pixel Art Printables

  1. Print

Use this link to print as many free pixel art set of coloring pages you would like.

  2. Color

If you have little ones I would have them use sharpened crayons or colored pencils. Older kids could use fine tip markers but typically those bleed thru to the back so they aren’t my favorite overall.

Choose all or some that you want for your occasion and go with it. Share this with your friends so everyone can enjoy the free fun y’all.

What is Pixel Art

This digital style of art uses individual pixels (the smallest units of a digital image) to create pictures or designs. It is characterized by its blocky, low resolution look, where each box represents a single point of color. Pixel art coloring pages are often associated with retro video games, particularly those from the 8-bit and 16-bit eras, but it has also found a place in contemporary art and design.

  1. A Pixel art grid is where each square represents a single box or pixel. Artists work within the constraints of this grid, carefully placing and selecting individual squares to create their images.
  2. This style of digital style art often uses a limited color palette, isolated on white background, which can be a defining characteristic of a particular piece. The restriction in colors forces artists to be creative with their choices and can contribute to the nostalgic feel.
  3. Due to its grid-based nature, pixel art has a blocky and retro look. This aesthetic can be appealing to both creators and viewers, evoking nostalgia for classic video games.
  4. Creating intricate pixel art illustration requires a high level of detail and precision. Artists must carefully consider each pixel’s placement to achieve the desired look.
  5. These images can come in various sizes, from small, single-pixel icons to larger and more complex images. The size often depends on the intended use and the level of detail required.
  6. It is not limited to still images. Animations created using pixel art techniques are also common, especially in video games.
  7. There are various software tools and programs designed specifically for creating these. These tools often include features for easily working within the pixel grid and managing color palettes.
  8. While typically these are closely associated with video games, it has found applications beyond gaming. Now it is found and used in digital art, web design, and even in creating retro style logos and illustrations.
  9. Online you can find thriving communities of artists, enthusiasts, and tutorials online. There are also annual events like “Pixel Art Day” and dedicated websites and forums for sharing and discussing creations such as these.

Celebrated for its ability to evoke nostalgia, convey emotion, and create cute and pleasing detailed images on a page, try to create some sheets on your own and get creative y’all!!
