How to Make Jiffy Mix Biscuits Better

Just like Bisquick Cheddar Bay Biscuits Recipe we will show you how to tweak the dry ingredients in this box to something way better. Simple tips are to always use milk (whole is best followed by 2%) instead of water, always! Fat = more tender and moist. Brushing butter over the top when done is key too.

From there the add ins are many. In this case we added cheese, you could use any kind from pepper Jack that has some heat or mild cheddar. Want to make spicy? Dice up some jalapenos or chiles and fold those in there too!

Can you use Jiffy biscuit mix instead of Bisquick?

Yes, you can use Jiffy biscuit mix as a substitute for Bisquick in most recipes! Both are all-purpose baking mixes that contain flour, leavening agents, and fat, so they function similarly. Jiffy has a slightly sweeter flavor because though it contains sugar and produces a slightly softer or more tender baked goods due to its ingredient ratios.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Jiffy baking mix
  • Cheese, shredded cheddar
  • Milk, whole or 2% best
  • Melted butter for the top
  • Old bay, or paprika
  • Garlic powder and onion powder

Variations

These are a bit like our Butter Swim 4 Ingredients with the added amount on top with seasonings. If you need them to be dairy free you could use vegan plant based sticks melted instead with almond milk in the batter.

I would not use other fats to make these, instead I would follow Crisco Biscuits recipe instead. Seasonings suggested below can be tweaked to your liking but is our favorite blend.

Due to the fact that these are rather loose, you wouldn’t be able to cook them via. Slow Cooker Biscuits and Gravy style but you could make the gravy and serve together after baked in the oven.

Can I use milk instead of water for Jiffy biscuit mix?

Of course, and it makes them so much better. Whole milk is recommended for baking biscuits in general but especially with dry baking mixes that need some fat to get them as fluffy, tender and moist as possible.

What can you add to Jiffy biscuit mix to make them taste homemade?

1. Cheese can make them really delicious
2. Diced chives are a nice touch
3. Finely diced chiles or jalapenos makes them spicy
4. Use whole milk instead of water for the batter
5. Seasonings such as Old bay, garlic powder and onion powder add flavor
6. Brush garlic butter on the top when done

What is the trick to baking fluffy biscuits?

#1 thing to remember is to not overwork the batter. Incorporate everything until the dry ingredients are incorporated and then stop. If you roll them out and/or fold the dough do so as little as possible for the fluffiest results.
