You can use homemade cookie dough or refrigerated Pillsbury or Tollhouse rolls sliced if you want in just 8 minutes (depending on their size). Either way they come out soft and delicious. You can even use cake mix cookies of your choice.

Tips: My Favorite models are the Cosori or making Ninja Foodi recipes with the lid that is attached.

It is best practice to put food into a hot basket. This is how to preheat air fryer first before adding your food so it becomes as crispy as possible. For best results, here’s a printable free air fryer cooking time chart here for your fridge.

The interior of the air fryer basket is empty and features a mesh design, perfect for cooking your favorite dishes like bang bang shrimp. The edge of the air fryer has a latch mechanism for securing the basket.

If you are going to go all out with homemade batter you will want some good salted Kerrygold (my favorite brand) butter or dairy free alternative works too (Country Crock has a good one of those).

Granulated white sugar is added to sweeten it up. You could use a sugar-free version that is 1:1 ratio from Swerve or Splenda if you preferred.

Your large egg should be added at room temperature. I highly recommend organic free range as those are richer and create chewier more flavorful desserts.

Brown sugar creates that deep rich sweetness because it has a bit of molasses in it.

The dry ingredients are based on all purpose flour with baking soda that will help with the leavening so they rise just a bit.

As far as choosing chocolate chips I prefer mini semi-sweet so you get a few in each bite. You can find all sorts of flavors though, and even dairy free alternatives.

Having a wire rack to cool them is helpful but not entirely a must. I mean sometimes we just eat them straight out of the pot!

Ingredients for baking air fryer cookies are arranged on a surface: a stick of butter, a jar of sugar, brown sugar in a bowl, flour in another bowl, chocolate chips, an egg, a jar of baking soda, salt in a shaker, and a small bowl of vanilla extract.

Refrigerated dough from Tollhouse or Pillsbury has a bunch of different flavors. You can just slice and bake those, either way works with this timing. If you want from scratch we have a simple mix above as well. Of course if you’re using semi-homemade chocolate chip cookie dough you’ll skip the mixing part which will save you a lot of time. This option is great if there are just a few of you.

To cook just 4 at a time just break apart. Preheat air fryer. Place inside on top of parchment paper. Cook for about 8 minutes (or until they are as browned as you want, for super chewy I would check at minute 6). If you don’t want to bake all at once store rest of dough inside an airtight container or wrap roll of dough with plastic wrap and store in fridge.

You can do the same thing with homemade dough though, that decision is up to you. Use a cookie scoop to form balls. Place on a cookie sheet and freeze. Then put frozen pieces in a freezer bag and store. You could just use packaged refrigerated dough and do this same thing with the same timing.

Four balls of chocolate chip cookie dough sit on parchment paper in an air fryer basket. The words “Delicious Air Fryer Cookies!” proudly top the image, promising a sweet treat.

How Long to Bake Chewy Cookies

How long to bake cookie dough in air fryer will vary depending on how large your slice or scoop is and/or your preferences. 6 minutes is usually better for a chewy interior. You want to remove when the outer edges are starting to crack and the middles no longer look wet but aren’t cracking yet.

How Long to Bake Crispy Cookies

For crispy you may add 2 minutes more to a total of 8 minutes (depending on size). For crunchy you want the whole top to be browned and the outer edges and middle to be cracking.

Can you cook frozen cookies in the air fryer?

I prefer to allow the dough to defrost, that only takes about an hour or less. If you don’t want to do that you can cook from frozen to chewy in about 12 minutes at 300 degrees until light browned.

With this machine you use the same directions as below. The only thing to remember is to use the lid that is attached and the air crisp button on the front to make these.

What else can you bake in air fryer?

There’s not a bake function per say but yes you can bake things like air fryer cake or air fryer banana bread in it. Then make cookies in an air fryer with the directions we share here in this post. There are TONS of great air fryer desserts you can make. The best part is you can make just enough for your family so it’s always fresh.

Why do I love this idea? I mean do you really need to make cookies in an air fryer y’all? Hear me out. You know when you just want 1-2 cookies for dessert and really don’t want to make all 12, this is a great option. Another HUGE reason why you should bake in an air fryer is so you don’t heat up the house!

When it’s in the 90’s or 100’s during the summertime the last thing I am going to do is turn on my oven. Not happening. We’ve even revised our pizookie recipe to include air fryer instructions for this very reason. The third reason this has been a hit in our house is the kids are all about cooking themselves.

Can you save homemade cookie dough?

Yes! It can easily be kept refrigerated for up to 2-3 days. Just cover with plastic wrap so it doesn’t out. To freeze homemade cookie dough just wrap it with plastic freezer wrap or into freezer bags to save for up to 3 months.

  1. I love homemade warm cookies but I don’t always want a full batch, so this recipe is perfect for nights when I crave a little treat!

  2. my mind is blown, I didn’t know you could make cookies in an air fryer! turned out great

  3. This is freakin genius! Such delicious cookies and a great way to not heat up my house. Thank you for this awesome recipe!

  4. Making my second batch of these right now – they are SO good! Super easy and saves me from turning the oven on in SW Florida in the summer. Thank you!!

  5. I made homemade, they were very good but they came out puffy (i just pushed down on them to make them look more like a cookie) so that was ok, but the bottoms were almost raw looking….I had to flip them over and bake for an extra couple of minutes, any idea why that would have happened? I have the air fryer with the racks.

    1. Well with the racks the food on the upper racks are going to cook differently than the lower racks a bit. I don’t use that style for these so don’t have a reference, I always use my Cosori with the drawer so they all cook very evenly.

  6. Perfect!!!! Came out great!!! Thank you so much for this recipe for my Ninja Foodi XL Deluxe!! Very Thankful for your website and recipes!!!
