Homemade Vegan biscuits and gravy recipe. Like our Fluffy Bisquick biscuits but these are dairy free egg free made in a cast iron skillet on the stove. Enjoy together for breakfast or as a side dish with your favorite Southern dinner together as a family.
Biscuits and gravy vegan style is easy to do. With a few alterations you can make them from scratch as directed below, or use almond milk to make Mayonnaise Biscuits, a second version. Both are great as a dish itself, or served at a brunch with guests. (affiliate links present)
Dairy Free Biscuits and Gravy
There are many plant based and/or lactose free options to use in place of cow’s milk. Each one has a different flavor, texture and thickness. Use what you have at home and prefer. Keep in mind that some are sweeter than others and will alter the overall flavor of the dish, that is up to you.
In regards to the second portion or sauce dish you can tweak that to your liking too. If you love more of a Brown Onion Gravy Recipe then by all means saute those babies up at the beginning so there is more of those flavors and added texture to it. Keep it mild as directed below or spice it up!
If you do love spicy, adding heat is quite easy. I would add it into the sauce instead of the oven baked or Dutch Oven Biscuits. Red pepper flakes are rather intense, chili powder is tamer, or use Sriracha if you want a kick of an Asian flare to it. There are many ways to make it hot if you wish. ๐

You can serve these plain, with a savory sauce on top we will share below, or drizzled with Chocolate Gravy. All can be made without animal products. Cashew milk is a wonderful alternative with no butter necessary and still delicious.

How to make gluten free
If you need to use gluten free flour blend to make this I would follow this recipe link instead. I don’t use that very often and there is a different liquid ratio.
You can make the gravy gluten free with the GF 1:1 flour too. That is to thicken the sauce and both work quite well, just add slowly to make a roux stirring consistently. You can’t take it out as easily as you can add in so just work slowly.
You can of course make each of these independent of one another. Love gravy over vegan mashed potatoes?? Just make that part when you jump to recipe card below. Both are pure comfort food but not always made together for sure.
