Cheesy Hot Dog Casserole Recipe

Cheesy hot dog casserole with noodles baked in the oven is pure comfort food. Or make into 5 ingredient chili cheese dog casserole for dinner. A kid favorite one pot meal that bakes up ooey gooey with cheddar cheese in a creamy sauce.

Hot Dog Casserole

Hot dog casseroles are easy and can be tweaked to your liking. Whether you start out with fresh or warmed frozen hot dogs it is easy to throw together. Use any pasta you like, elbow macaroni or rotini are our favorite. With a cream of mushroom sauce, you’ll want seconds. (affiliate links present)

Chili Cheese Dog Casserole

You could alter this one by swapping out the condensed soup for 1 cup of canned or leftover Instant Pot chili the day after. This won’t be as creamy as the other but you could do half and half so you get the best of both worlds. Remember, like I said, this is very easily changed around to the way you want it to be.

Have a larger family? You could double this easily and bake in a 9×13″ baking dish too. Kielbasa works instead of weiners too if you have that on hand or prefer the smoky flavor in that type of sausage. Seriously, if you are headed to a potluck and don’t want to bring the same boring dishes take this or our shipwreck casserole that is a fun one too.

Leftover Hot Dog Recipe

You could totally use leftovers that have already been cooked or grilled to make this too. I mean I wouldn’t save crispy or overdone ones but if you just made a few Toaster Oven Hot Dogs earlier in the day but didn’t eat them all by all means slice those up and throw them in. Doesn’t make a huge difference.

Hot Dog Burnt Ends add a sweet to it too if you have some of those. Baking is just to warm all of the ingredients together so the timing varies. If you didn’t want to add cheese at all to keep it dairy free it would take 15 minutes less or so. You can find lactose free cheeses though and use that which works well, we have done that.

  • 1 c hot dogs sliced

  • 2 tbsp minced garlic optional
  • 1 tbsp butter for sauteeing onions and garlic

Chili Dog Casserole

This is How Long to Cook Egg Noodles but typically I will use one that stays a bit firmer for this one. Up to you but either way keep them a bit al dente since they will continue to soften when baked.

Hot Dogs and Noodles

Really you could cook with ground beef and add that instead. Choose meatless links, sliced and make this casserole recipe with those too. I mean whatever you favorite type of protein is a family favorite then go with that and the same directions here.

A kid fave, high on the list of what they will request when I ask for dinner ideas. The other is our Lazy Lasagna Casserole that is amazing.

HotDog Casserole

If you wanted to add some veggies I would go with 1/2 cup canned green beans or 1/4 cup canned corn kernels mixed in there. Nutritional information, calories and saturated fat listed below. That will vary depending on the brand of links you use so refer to that packaging if you need exact numbers.
