What are the benefits of eating okra?
These air fryer frozen vegetables are rich in antioxidants, vitamin A & C, as well as being a good source of Magnesium. Any and all green produce is always the best for you and the darker the better for sure. You can find it whole, cut in half as we show you here, or sliced into small bites as shown below.
The cook time in the recipe card below is for halved pieces. If you have smaller pieces I’d just decrease the time by 1-2 minutes and check. The nice thing about cooking frozen foods this way is you can easily open the drawer and check tenderness really easy.
I used these smaller pieces to make our breaded air fryer okra, I will share that recipe at the very bottom so you can try them both.

Ninja Foodi Frozen Okra
You always want the contents of your air fryer basket to be in a single layer to get nice and crispy. To air fry frozen okra you want to make sure to preheat your air fryer first. You can jump to recipe but I want to give you a quick rundown of how this is done first.
- Put frozen okra pieces into a bowl and drizzle with some olive oil. Toss to coat. Sprinkle in all seasonings you’d like and toss to coat.
- Preheat air fryer at 350 degrees F for 5 minutes. Then pour in contents and shake so as few are overlapping as possible.
- Close basket and air fry for about 8 minutes. Shaking basket and contents halfway thru timing. Remove when tender as you like on inside and browned on the outside to your liking.
If you have smaller slices of fresh okra the timing would be less, closer to 4-6 minutes. If you want the outside super crunchy raise temp to 400 degrees at the very end for 1-2 minutes. Spray with olive oil for super air fried okra.
How to Cook Okra from Frozen
This really is the best way to lock in the flavor and give it the best texture. If you do want to add a light coating to it that is amazing too. You’ll have to defrost these babies first though so the breading and/or seasonings will stick nicely.
If you do have time to defrost you will be able to bread it with a whisked egg so the breadcrumbs will stick. Frozen breaded okra wouldn’t really work. The egg wash wouldn’t still very well so it is best to defrost if you want a coating on the outside.
