This easy dulce de leche recipe can be made fast with just 1 ingredient, seriously! Yes we have a lot of Instant Pot recipes for beginners on our site but this may be the easiest. You can make it year round but during Christmas time is a must. (affiliate links present)

Instant Pot Dulce de Leche

You may have a can of this in your pantry already because you’re planning on making a poke cake on our site. Most of the time you just open and pour the contents right out into or in this case on to your baked goods. If you heat it up though???? Did you know it like becomes something else totally amazing??

Ninja Foodi Dulce de Leche

There are many different brands out there and we have them all. Whether you make this in a Ninja Foodi, Crockpot Express or Mealthy the process is the same. You don’t want to set this inside as is rather use a pot or dish covered with foil, or wrapped completely, to keep the moisture out of the can. That’s the key. Under high pressure this doesn’t take long.

How to Make Dulce de Leche with Condensed Milk

How to Make Caramel from Condensed Milk Quickly

This is the fastest method of all. We go over How to Make Caramel with Condensed Milk here also in a slow cooker or on the stovetop as well.

I mean it really does. You may have had this at your favorite Mexican restaurant in some way and thought it was a bunch of caramels just melted and poured on top of your bite of YUM, nope, made differently my friends. All you need is heat to transform this can of thick sweet milk into a holy moly what was that treat. All you need to make this is;

Ingredients

  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk – this is NOT the same as evaporated milk, it’s thicker to begin with
  • 10 c water more or less depending on the pot, want it to come up 1/2 way to the top of the can or dish it is in.

During the holidays I will make this if I’m making a homemade pecan pie. If I am having a baking day of sorts I will buy many cans and make all sorts of different things with this same ingredient. On these days I will use it as is to create a fun White Chocolate Fudge in the Microwave with sprinkles or jelly beans on top to match the holiday!

Easy Dulce de Leche

Note: If you want a lighter color you can decrease timing to 35 minutes, darker colors result with longer cooking time which will result in a stronger caramel flavor and thicker too.

How to Make Dulce de Leche with Condensed Milk

  • Place a trivet into the bottom of the pot. Open the top of the can of your sweetened condensed milk. You can place into a heat proof bowl that will fit into the electric pressure cooker wrapped entirely with foil to seal.
    • ** Or just wrap the open can twice with foil very tightly.
  • Place the bowl or wrapped can into the electric pressure cooker, resting in the middle of your trivet.
  • Fill the electric pressure cooker with enough water to come halfway up the sides of the can or bowl. Close lid and steam valve.
  • Pressure cook on high for 40 minutes.
  • Quickly release the steam when done.
  • Doing a natural release will make it thicker like the top layer in our Pumpkin Pecan Pie and darker in color but works. Will take 15 minutes to finish.
  • Lift out, unwrap, stir and enjoy or make Pecan Turtles with it. As it cools it will continue to thicken.

If you make this as Ninja foodi dulce de leche you’re going to use the lid that is NOT attached and the pressure cook button to make. Other than that the directions are the same. If you do have leftovers you can save it in tightly sealed glass jars once completely cooled. Canning jars will last longest.

Remove the labels and mark the date it was made. Store in an airtight container and place it in the refrigerator. It can typically last for several weeks to a few months this way if the container is tightly sealed to prevent moisture and odors from affecting the flavor.

How long does it take to caramelize condensed milk in a pressure cooker?

You will want to leave it in there for about 40 minutes. You can adjust how dark and rich it becomes with the timing and/or with a natural release vs. quickly releasing the steam. More time will make it darker, thicker, and with a deeper taste.
