3 Ingredient Cherry Brownies

So we love to experiment and try to make quick desserts. I mean, cake mix recipes are the best. Using brownie mix is just as easy.

The other day my girls and I thought that adding some pie filling might work well to fill our chocolatey brownies with some cherries which we love! It was so good it didnโ€™t last until the next day. That time we just used a box from Ghirardelli and this can of light filling.

Ingredient Tips

There are many different brands of pie filing out there, you can find light varieties like this one (still way sweet enough), and black cherry versions. I havenโ€™t found there really to be a difference at all between name brand and generic so I buy what is on sale. ๐Ÿ˜‰

As for the boxed brownie mix you choose I would say it is a bit different than the filling. I will spend the extra money to buy brand name here. There IS a difference between the dollar version and dark chocolate with better ingredients with quality dutch processed cocoa powder inside.

As far as the equipment you need a rubber spatula, bowl and a mini muffin tin. If ou choose to bake in a square 8ร—8 pan that works too. I will share the baking times for both below.

A glass bowl contains a mixed brown dry ingredient, likely cocoa powder and flour, with a white spatula resting inside. It seems to be the beginnings of cherry brownies, as the mixture is in the process of being stirred, indicating baking preparation.

It is something my girls and I enjoy doing together and now my youngest (well sheโ€™s 9, not a baby anymore) makes these all by herself all the time. Makes her feel independent and is a way she can make a treat for all of usโ€ฆokay and then we can enjoy her treat as well.

They are rich so making them bite sized brownies is perfect because 2 is about the perfect serving size. With a dollop of frosting on top and a slice or whole cherry is fun to do if making them for a party. You can tweak the basics a bit with chocolate chips or adding a scoop of protein like our protein brownie recipe.

We love making air fryer brownies, and our blueberry pie filling dump cupcakes cupcakes are just as easy as this recipe too! About the same size, big enough to just pop into your mouth makes a great sweet treat after any meal.

A close-up of a hand holding a small chocolate dessert with a bite taken out, revealing a bright red cherry filling inside. The background shows a blurred muffin tray filled with these delicious cherry brownies.

How do you make brownies fudgy?

Fudgy and flourless cake like is hands down the best. To make more dense you want to either add 1 more egg yolk or moisture like we did here with the canned filling. There are tons of ways to tweak boxed mix.

We used a mini muffin tin for these Brownies with Cherry Pie Filling so timing is listed for that. Make sure you really get the non stick spray in there so they slide right out. If you wanted a regular size like we did with our Brownie Cupcakes From Brownie Mix it would take a bit longer.

You should cool or eat warm topped with whipped cream or ice cream! You can top those with a maraschino cherry too for fun. Here is the printable recipe card so you can get started, and save it if youโ€™d like in your recipe box.
