Biscuits with strawberries are delicious. We have made these for years and then I recently saw that Popeyes was selling their own version. Tasted one of theirs and boy so they taste similar to one another so I thought I’d write up how we make them. (affiliate links present)
How to Make Popeyes Strawberry Biscuits
Of course they don’t disclose the ingredients or step by step of how they make theirs. All I can share is how we’ve done it all these years because like I said they taste almost the same so I guess it was time to do a write up on them. During the summer months you may have the main ingredient growing right in your backyard.
You can see ours below and of course freshly picked is ideal, store bought works too. 😉 There is a local farm nearby us too so in years when we didn’t have a great growing season we would grab a box full there and wouldn’t last long. Folded gently into this dough or on top of our Lemon Meringue Strawberry Shortcake Recipe we just can’t get enough.

Strawberry Biscuits with Buttermilk
Now these biscuits offer a delicious touch of sweetness with this delicate fruit inside. You do need to wait until the very end to integrate them for the perfect combination with our classic dough and your fresh strawberries. And to make them super tender you want buttermilk!!
In addition to that just make sure you’re using firmer pieces that aren’t super duper ripe or they will fall apart and get a bit mushy. Instead save those to slice and serve on top of our 2 Ingredient Strawberry Cake!

Strawberry Biscuits with Bisquick
How to Make Biscuits From Scratch are great, like the one shared below, but we don’t always have time to make them homemade, I get it. In that case you could use that big yellow box that you normally use to make pancakes, and just fold the fruit in at the very end. In that case you would make them by;
- 2 1/4 cups Bisquick
- 2/3 cup milk
- add 1/2 cup of sweet flavor of ripe fruity berries is added to these normally classic buttery biscuits
Gently fold together the first two ingredients in a large bowl until JUST incorporated, NO more or they will not be as fluffy. Then fold in berries of choice like our Blueberry Biscuits too and make drop biscuits without rolling out at all.
Put them with space in between them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Preheat oven to 425 and bake for 10 minutes or until lightly browned and no longer wet in the middle. In the summer months we will eat one of these with a powdered sugar glaze on top with a glass of Strawberry Hibiscus Sweet Tea. OMG is that such a great duo!
How to Make Biscuits with Strawberries
You could do the same thing with other berries or seasonings like our Cinnamon Biscuits. Remember that fruits should be on the firmer side, blueberries work well. Things like raspberries or blackberries are juicier and will break apart and ooze more than others.
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Line baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl whisk together dry ingredients.
- Incorporate cold butter that has been shredded on a box grater into the bowl.
- Mix with a spoon. Then use a pastry cutter to combine until you get a shaggy mixture.
- Add buttermilk and heavy cream, fold together 4 times, pour in diced strawberries and combine gently with a spoon or spatula just until dry ingredients are incorporated, NO longer. Over-mixing will make them not as fluffy.
- Very lightly flour a cutting board and dump dough out on to it. Use hands to combine all dough into one lump. Then gently use a rolling pin to roll out so all the way across it is 1 inch thick.
- Use a large biscuit cutter and press down (do not twist), place biscuit dough rounds on prepared baking sheet. BEST RESULTS = put tray in freezer for 15 minutes before baking.
- Brush tops with just a bit of buttermilk
- Bake for 18 minutes – 20 or until middle is no longer doughy and outsides are lightly browned.
You’ll find these are easy biscuits and the flavor is just out of this world. To add a simple glaze just whisk together 1 cup powdered sugar with enough liquid of choice to thin like lemon juice or milk works.
How to Make Strawberry Biscuits without Buttermilk
I have found a great plant based alternative by Country Crock I use for my husband who needs dairy-free vegan options. The sticks are a bit softer but either way I suggest you freeze butter so I would do the same for these. Shred with a grater into the bowl and incorporate with your hands. Make vegan buttermilk by combining unsweetened almond milk with 1 tbsp. lemon juice and set aside for 10 minutes to curdle a bit.
It has a sweet classic and spicy (just a tad) flavor to it with the fruit and crispy dough on the outside. A fun addition to their chicken dinner BUT we will show you how to make copycat Popeyes biscuits with berries in it here too!!
Their strawberries strawberry biscuits offer a sweetness with little bits of strawberry pieces baked inside a small biscuit. With a scone consistency it is not super fluffy inside but pretty tasty.
