Don’t you love a great kitchen hack??!! We use this yellow box to make all sorts of things and tweaking the instructions and ingredients on the back of the box can make them taste homemade (but with a lot less work which we love).

If you made our Sausage Balls with Red Lobster Biscuit Mix you know what I mean by this. Starting with a boxed baking mix means that the leavening agents are already incorporated so there is less mixing and you can make it all in ONE bowl.

Bisquick Sour Cream Biscuits

To be exact you need more than just these two ingredients, butter an egg is needed too but really?? 4 ingredient biscuits are the bomb y’all. So simple to combine that your kids can help out with that part. With more melted butter on the top when done they will resemble our Bisquick Butter Swim Biscuits.

Ingredients for delicious Sour Cream Biscuits: a box of Bisquick, tub of sour cream, stick of butter, and an egg on a wooden surface.

How to Make Biscuits Moist

Why would you add sour cream to biscuits? OH let me tell you why my friends….. The basic answer is that adding fat to baked goods makes it WAY more moist and tender than if you didn’t. I mean it makes sense right? And use the good stuff, skip the low fat tub y’all, we aren’t counting calories today…

Can you use other baking mixes?

You could and we have done just that to make a batch of Biscuits with Jiffy Mix in the past too. They too have their own brand of baking mix you can buy that is in their classic box colors of white and blue and works identical to this one if that is all you can find (or have in the cupboard already).

What is a good substitute for sour cream?

The best alternative to this if you need one would be Greek yogurt. I would choose the plain variety since this is meant to be savory but really any one would do. One reason you might want to swap it out is if you need a dairy free version, or an allergy to one or the other.

A hand holds a cookie scoop of dough over a mixing bowl with more dough and a spatula inside, perfect for preparing a classic Sour Cream Biscuits recipe.

Can you add cheese?

You could incorporate some shredded cheddar into the dough before chilling like our Bisquick cheddar bay biscuits but only 1/2 cup and gently fold, do not over-mix or the end result will be tougher.

How Long to Bake Sour Cream Biscuits

If you follow our suggestions below with a small cookie scoop amount per they should bake for about 13 minutes. Any larger than this would need a good 2 more minutes or longer and smaller will take less time but won’t be as fluffy inside. If you like crispy biscuits than maybe decrease the size.

How do you know when biscuits are done?

What you are looking for ideally is for them to be golden brown on the top and crinkled. If not they need a bit more time to ensure that the very center is no longer wet and doughy.
