Use glaze or leave plain, up to you. Perfect for kids because they can help spoon in the pop tart filling, mix and spoon on the glaze and make it “their own” creations. It is versatile so you could go really easy and use apple pie filling, lemon pie or cherry filling.

Whichever way they are tasty. If you love this homemade pop tarts recipe try our caramel apple bread pudding recipe too! Have a wonderful season and let us know what flavor your used inside of yours.

Ingredients

  • 3 apples – diced, I used Granny Smith
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbs cinnamon
  • Squirt of fresh lime
  • 2 refrigerated pie crusts
  • 1/4 c raisins, caramel bits or chopped walnuts * optional
  • Glaze
  • 2 tablespoons almond milk
  • 1 tsp maple syrup
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  • Simmer all ingredients on medium heat for 7-9 minutes, until apples are soft. Putting together the poptarts:
  • Cut dough into 3×4 inch rectangles, divide in half. Drop a spoonful of apple mixture onto half of the rectangles (I would say 1-1.5 tablespoons). Take a little water on your fingertips, and run around the edges of your bottom crust, then add a top crust and push down to seal it. Go around the edges of each with a fork, pushing down softly. Bake for 15 minutes at 350 degrees.
  • Mix all glaze ingredients for glaze with a whisk (if it is too thin, add more sugar). Spread over poptarts
